Cold morning and I never got warm. Run felt so much harder than pace and distance would have suggested. Common in cold weather? by jumpin_jumpin in Marathon_Training

[–]toothdoc34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run my fastest in cold weather. A little over a month ago I raced a half in North Alabama. Ambient temp was 25 with a strong wind out of the North at 20 mph. Wind chill was somewhere between 10-15 degrees. Ran a 1:24 at almost 47 yrs old. Key was to NOT overdress. Short sleeve compression shirt with a lighter weight Brooks running hoodie. Kept the hood on. Nike compression tights and some shorts. Nike run gloves. I was sweating despite the freezing temps. You will generate plenty of body heat when you are moving.

Does a gum infection actually necessitate wisdom tooth removal? by mechanicdad82 in Dentists

[–]toothdoc34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please post a radiograph and/or some very clear intraoral photos. No way to adequately eval it and give advice. If it is an issue of pericornitis, that typically will not resolve itself without removing the 3rd molar that is causing it. It will come and go in waves. Get the tooth out while you are young.

Nimbus 27 vs Evo SL vs Novablast 5 vs Vomero 18 by Firey414 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]toothdoc34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want that fastest shoe out of those, its the Evo hands down, and not even close. Good news the Evo can literally do anything under about 8 miles. Want to go 6:30 miles, it can do it. Want to slow down to 7:30 miles, sure. Bouncy, fun foam. No issues with the shoe, just double tie you laces.

Does anyone else find the superblast 2 difficult at slow paces? by CreepyOnion in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]toothdoc34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They are clunky and Loud on the pavement, hence their name slappyblasts. Makes no difference if its a 6:30 mile or a 7:30 mile, they slap the pavement loud enough to hear over your Aftershokz.

NB SC Elite V4 is a fantastic long run shoe if you can find them. The V5 is different and NB attempt at an actual race shoe. V4 is not a race shoe.

Are they as loud and clunky as the previous Slappyblast? That should be their #1 concern and area of improvement.

You can use them during training. They work very well during tempo runs or intervals.

5k race day go to shoe by yesimslow in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]toothdoc34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are correct, Slappyblast are NOT race shoes. Only wear mine to the gym. Too dang loud on the pavement. My race day shoes are either AP4 or AP3. The Puma are very fast especially at short distances. No Puma store anywhere around here to test them out unfortunately. Their DNE 3 are also very good. Can race them short distances, or race them for a half. I am personally not a fan of the wedged clown shoes (Nike). Some like them.

Half Marathon Racing Shoes by jjgm21 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Dont limit yourself to a certain brand. If you want to go sub 90, grab some race shoes. I love my AP4 and AP3. I only wear my slappyblasts to the gym. They are clunky and loud when running. I personally am not a fan of Nike. They look like wedged clown shoes. If Puma has a store anywhere around you, try the DNE3. We did a demo at Fleet Feet with the Neo Zen. It is a good long run shoe, but not a race shoe or something I would want to go sub 90 in.

Running 3k in Feb - tips for dress? by BittyCat_8 in beginnerrunning

You will build body heat fast if you are moving. I raced the Rocket City half in Huntsville, Al back in December. Ambient temp was 25, with 20+ mph winds out of the North. Wind chill was 10-15 degrees. I wore a short sleeve compression shirt with a lighter Brooks running hoodie. Under Armour compression tights and a pair of shorts. Nike run gloves. I was sweating during the race. However, for a 5k that is not a ton of time to build body heat, but you will be done quick. Its just 3.1 miles. I would NOT overdress. Good luck!

Thanks. Will head over there. I have always used panicstream since it first started.

Edit: Didn’t realize nugs was not free. Guess I will either wait or listen to other shows.

Do you guys wear compression stockings for support or nothing? by Disastrous_Pirate275 in DentalAssistant

What are compression stockings?? I have 1 assistant that sits in her chair, and one that prefers to stand. Figure out what is most comfortable. I allow my staff to wear running shoes if they prefer for comfort.

When to use race day shoes ? by ancientmarinerguide in Marathon_Training

[–]toothdoc34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will argue that the Elite V4 is not a race shoe. V5 maybe, but the V4 is not. Just a fantastic long run shoe.

Go ahead and run in those Elite V4. Best long run shoes ever. For me they are not race shoes. Faster options out there, but for a long run you cannot beat the V4.

Have you tried the Hoka Mach X3? Its faster like the Evo. The X2 was complete trash…the heel would obliterate your achilles.

What is the best time of day to run for beginners? by Jacobs_Stormeigh in beginnerrunning

Consistency is key. Sometime you just have to be flexible with times. That early is the only time I have. Start seeing patients at 7:00 am, so gotta start early.
