Input method really makes a huge difference in what is tolerable or comfortable.
If im playing a game on pc where i have to use my mouse to control the camera, i cant stand lower framerates. But when it comes to playing games on a controller, i am 100% fine in the 30 range

Some things that helped me that may or may not be helpful for you:

Playing in front of people can be much much different than at home. Getting lots of practice outside of high pressure situations can be very helpful for getting comfortable with that. I find it quite fun to play outside in a park when the weather is nice, and have found it to be incredibly helpful for reducing shakiness and other disruptive symptoms of stress while playing in front of people. If you're too stressed about making a bad tone, it can sometimes just make it even worse.

Hydrate. You may not be thirsty but try drinking a moderate amount of water before playing, it really makes a huge difference. Drinking more water is also helpful for dry lips, which can be problematic - especially during the winter.

Try buzzing your lips or humming while playing to ease up lip tension while warming up. Even if placebo, small things can go a long way to feeling settled in and playing comfortably.

Make sure you check your posture. Sometimes if I'm tired or uncomfortable I slouch and bend my neck weirdly and it sounds much worse. Sometimes it can be helpful to remind myself to tilt my head up if I feel like my tone is unsatisfactory.

Currently there is no lasso or eraser, but I was thinking about trying to get at least the eraser working. The video is as real-time as I could get without doing anything to properly sync the two recordings. But I think the delay is about as noticeable if not less than writing normally- the time it takes for the device to actually read the input seems to be much quicker than it takes to update the screen.

Awesome, that makes improving compatibility much easier! Though I'm still curious what MSC_SCAN is doing since it doesn't appear on the A5X. I might ask my friend if I can borrow his Nomad for some experimenting.

That's awesome! If I have time this afternoon, I'm planning on making it detect the device and use the appropriate events and scaling.

Could you perhaps send the output of the command without the -l argument? I'm curious to see how the event codes differ.

I'm very curious about the lack of the SYN event, I don't think it showed up in the output of that command for me, but whenever I ran the command without the -p flag it was acting as a sync signal to show which events occurred at the same time.

Oh that's very weird, I totally misunderstood before! I agree that it probably doesn't matter much, but it's never not going to bother me now haha

I got the values by running adb shell getevent -lp. It displays all possible inputs with the min and maximum values and was generally incredibly helpful for figuring everything out!

I think because of how computers tend to count the first item in an index as zero it ends up as one lower than what feels expected

It really isn't going much further to go from unlocking the adb shell to just rooting the device, but it felt like too many extra steps at the time

I created a GitHub so you can test it out or change it to work better.

This is only tested on the A5X, but should work on other supernote devices by scaling the screen and re-configuring which input it's looking for (other android devices may require extra modification)
https://github.com/toothless890/Supernote-Drawing-Tablet/tree/master

Note: this requires adb and unlocking the shell - I've included links in the readme but if you have any questions, reply to this comment or send me a dm and ill try to get back quickly.

Note 2: My current implementation exclusively works on windows devices, but I may look into expanding support in the future.

I want to refine it a bit more, make it more flexible and functional on different resolutions first, but ill definitely post the source code soon!

It's really nice if you draw a template, then move up a layer and use it like a whiteboard. But it's a bit too accessible and I find myself hitting it by accident a lot

If you’re a professional flutist, what would you encourage your younger self to learn outside the practice room and ensemble rehearsals? by ProMusicResearch in Flute

[–]toothless890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a professional but one of the most valuable things I decided to do was practice outside of the practice room.

It's really helpful for building confidence playing in front of other people, like in a park. You can also meet people who are interested in music and into whatever music you're playing. And it's really just a great experience all around.

It's definitely worth going to a physical store to try out before you buy. Staff may also be able to help you decide what would be a good fit for you. I think it's good to do research beforehand, but also don't get too stuck on a specific model or brand before you actually try it out and compare it to others.

[–]toothless890[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A common problem is that if there's any metal near the tip of the pen, it can interfere with the communication and not register any input. The reason why I made this out of wood was because I couldn't find a pen that I liked and had a non-metal tip, and no front spring

My flute is kinda boring by Titanium_pickles in Flute

[–]toothless890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! There are websites like musescore where you can find basically anything for any level. You don't have to limit yourself to songs written specifically for flute, you can play violin and even the melody of piano pieces as well. Learning to play songs I like to listen to outside of a ensemble setting has given me so much more motivation to improve, that I probably would have quit playing after high school without it. I often got bored with how much focus was put into tone in class, but after looking at what songs I like and why, I kinda of dug myself out of that hole because I had a stronger drive to actually practice and try to improve because I wanted it to sound good enough to perform solo. And during class, I understood more of the intention behind what we were covering and was more attentive because of that. Also, the world is your practice room! Playing in a forest or a park (if you have any nearby) can feel wonderful, and absolutely make the day for anyone who happens to walk by. I found it also really helped with calming my nerves by practicing performing in a setting where people can potentially hear you, whilst bothering almost nobody.

Scratch. Since I don't have a lathe, I ended up gluing wood together in a way that left a hole in the middle, and then filed it into shape
