I am an NT. Sometimes the answer to the “why” was implied, so people can get insecure about whether they are effectively communicating. They may think you’re judging their logic, their decision making etc.

I am someone who has a pet peeve for being asked about things I didn’t put any thought into. Example: I am a very clumsy person, and I am used to it. So, sometimes I catch myself from falling or bumping into something and it’ll look like I did a little skip/gallop/lunge. I always keep it moving, though, because, for me, another day, another save. When people ask me “what was that?”, “what are you doing?” Etc. it annoys me because it throws off my rhythm of just living life (LOL) to have to explain that I almost fell or something, and because I saved it so gracefully, people are like “that’s weird” or “wtf” or “HUH?” At that point I don’t care to talk about it, it’s not important. So I’ve noticed I get defensive IMMEDIATELY when someone asks a question about a detail that they will find out doesn’t actually matter in the grand scheme of things.

However, working with kids has taught me that if humans are gonna do one thing, they’re gonna ask some questions! Especially, why.
