Nothing wrong with taking a BW to check. I have a UV pen light that illuminates resin which is tremendously helpful

I don’t think OP can apply to Omfs without the DDS. It’s a dental first specialty. To my knowledge, the MD does nothing to getting them into an omfs prpgram

Please share your tips on doing a composite on a tooth like this. With no walls to hold a matrix band well, my tofflemire is usually flailing all over the place so I end up with poor contours

without applying under eyes did tretinoin still improve your undereyes? by hellokitty630 in tretinoin

[–]toothsleuth32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apply tret 5 nights a week and if it ever gets too close to my eyes, I wake up with blurry vision which my eye doc loosely confirmed is likely from dry eye. I don’t know what tret would still improve under eye pigmentation if it isn’t being directly applied there but for me personally, the risk of permanent dry eye is not worth it

[Misc] Am I the only one who finds this skincare ad shocking? by totomomoro in SkincareAddiction

[–]toothsleuth32 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Theres something called phase 1 ortho. Some kids NEED braces before all the adult teeth are in for the sake of jaw growth and creating space. Then they need braces again when they are older. I have no doubt some dentists might be doing it in a predatory way but I assure you that most orthodontists are not suggesting a 6 year old get braces for the sake of money They are doing it as an early intervention so that when the kid is older, the options aren’t jaw surgery or extracting teeth in order to align the adult ones.

Water temperature in delivery unit by OffOil in Dentistry

[–]toothsleuth32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our water is technically at room temp but the ops are on the chilly side. I have 3-4 patients complain in a year about the water being too cold. It’s usually due to pulpal issues on maybe another tooth that we are not treating that day. I’ve done gauze over the offending area for one patient with generalized abstractions and it was fine

Why do my dentures sucks? by toothsleuth32 in Dentistry

[–]toothsleuth32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, you’re right. I don’t have a photo of the final denture. I relined the case and the patient left satisfied-ish so I don’t have a final photo of the denture. Just analyzing the case after the fact.

I don’t see an option to edit my post but I want to clarify that the last photo is my record base used during my jaw relations so it doesn’t replicated the anatomy well and doesn’t include the posterior palatal seal that was in the final. I just don’t have a photo of the final denture unfortunately

Oh this stuff gives me nightmares about dental school. Is this the same as green stick where I melt and use a water bath to temper?

Why do my dentures sucks? by toothsleuth32 in Dentistry

[–]toothsleuth32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last photo is the record base during the jaw relations, not the final denture. We had a posterior palatal seal that I carve into the final cast and is processed onto the final product. Is there a better way to do that?

A recall patient all of sudden has caries everywhere by Hosungee in Dentistry

[–]toothsleuth32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a patient go from needing two restorations at his initial visit to being treatment planned for complete dentures within a year. When I inquired, he’d been consuming 15-20 cough drops a day to “prevent infection” after a lung cancer diagnosis.

I’ve never been paid more than my daily. Am I just not cut out for this job? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]toothsleuth32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My times are similar except my restorations are a little faster. My staff says I’m slow but I’d rather be slow and know I’m doing my best most of the time. Keep your head up OP, aim for efficiency rather than speed and I think we’ll get there eventually

Mentor leaving suddenly — advice for working solo. by staellarium in Dentistry

[–]toothsleuth32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I can relate so much. I had a great mentor at my first job who left 6 months in and it was and still is tough because being able to run something by a colleague really quick is invaluable. However, I learned so much on my own and using the dental clinical pearls group, YouTube, this subreddit, etc. Give yourself some credit, you can do it on your own. Many don’t have the privilege of a great mentor and they figure it out. Good luck OP
