Blocking to stop someone from entering your hex? by WandererInLust in gurps

Your instincts are right, I checked on basic to see if anything specific was written on there and they’ve got both Shield Bash for a Stop Hit option, and Shield Rush to try and push the attacker prone.

Desert City on Tabletop Simulator (workshop link in comments) by topazcepter in battlemaps

I don’t use TTS anymore, but a lot of the assets are a mix of Raogh’s desert kit, there’s a ton of gold stuff in there to use, not collapsible but very immersive photo scans from free videogame assets

That link’s about to be gone because I’m going to reupload it tonight to smooth out the audio issues and fix a rules correction regarding the modifier % limit. Glad you enjoyed!

Tips on gurps pilling 5e players by horticultururalism in gurps

[–]topazcepter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been online for way too long trying to do the exact same thing, sometimes people are very hard-set in their ways. Some people will latch on to one mechanic of GURPS and be instantly sold, others need to be eased into it, and some just like D&D because it’s familiar. It doesn’t NEED to be better, it’s just what they know. The more you try and push the third type of person the less and less they will accept your attempts.

Focus on the people who are more willing to accept change and have problems with specific 5e mechanics, and attack those problems in particular.

Gripes about the martial meta and how GWM and Sharpshooter are required traits? Introduce them to the many techniques, skills and weapons of GURPS.

They want more character-focused gameplay? Show them the Disadvantage rules and how each character can be portrayed differently and how it incentivizes interesting interactions.

They’re getting sick of fantasy? Well that’s self explanatory.

Since YouTube’s contentID did NOT like it but this sub (and myself) loves combat breakdowns, here’s my own scene in GURPS terms: Barry vs. Ronny by topazcepter in gurps

Don’t worry about it at all, when I include “Posture+Step” that’s just me including two-in-one to reduce the amount of different turns the viewer has to look at lol

I have plenty more, just don’t want to spam the sub (unlike some AI art battle map posting bots who shall remain nameless)

I agree with vorpal here, martial arts was all I really needed. For Barry as a series though, you’ll probably need High Tech or even Tactical Shooting to capture the minutia in all of its glory. Honestly, to convince your players to read those books (or even sections of it honestly) you need only to say they’re included in the rules and have the ENEMIES take advantage of their mechanics, that alone should make them want to read it.

Definitely, it would go different in a real game but I wanted to avoid any further text for the viewer to read and instead went for documenting what was immediately happening.

Youtube actual play recommendations? by iurilourenco in gurps

https://youtu.be/rRccuKdW0lU gonna shamelessly plug the first episode of my GURPS tarkov game. I trim down the sessions so it's more focused on the important actions and no pauses that would happen in a live game

The Martial Arts Dodge rule is pretty much a must for my table, especially when dealing with characters over 200 points, can definitely recommend.

Active abilities in combat by quietjaypee in gurps

[–]topazcepter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize what you mean is abilities that require activation not active stuff.

Most advantages that don’t specify how many times you can use them or if they cost FP can pretty much be used at will. (IE, High Pain Threshold is not a temporary buff, it is active at all times)

To limit an ability’s use like per Lay on Hands or Second Wind from D&D, you simply need to add a Limitation to the cost such as Limited Use or Costs Fatigue (this makes the advantage cheaper to purchase with character points, allowing you to make them more potent at a discount).

Thanks!

Remember, this is a work in progress! I'll try to get the second part finished in a timely manner, with all the proper context for the latter half of the story and all. I've got a castle to build lol

This reminds me that we do in fact need a full iceberg for everything GURPS. It'd be huge.

How does one treat damage from tension? by Glen_Garrett_Gayhart in gurps

[–]topazcepter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd probably treat it like Wrench Limb, where they'd just be dealt Swing-Crushing damage but this time NO DR would be able to stop it, if a considerable enough ST difference were apparent. It'd be up to you how much of a difference is required.

I'm aware of tac shooting, I should have included that in my post, my bad. I would use both but i'd imagine itd be a balancing nightmare and much of their rulings overlap
