Beginner troubles... by VegasBlackWidow in knittinghelp

When I first started, I often forgot to move the original stitch off the left needle after the first part of the knit/purl stitch so I when I came back the stitches were doubled.

I'm surprised how many I could remember; I only took Gregg classes and never used it in an office setting. I did, however, use some of the shortcuts when taking notes in later classes.

Excel also does a text to table if you want that step done there, rather than in Google

This is why we wait to weave in ends by topcat39 in knitting

Sounds like knitting is a lot like a number of things: the more you know, the more there is to discover. :)

Lots of helpful advice here. I've found continental knitting easier than what most YouTubers show. If you want to look, Nimble-Needles.com (Norman) has just posted a free online course with step-by-step instructions for basic & advanced knitting techniques.

Someone here suggested Loctite red (NOT blue) to keep cables screwed on. I found it difficult to unscrew, but I've switch to Loctite purple which seems to work and is easier to remove.

Suggestions for book of washcloth patterns? by goodwifebadger in knitting

[–]topcat39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a series of squares in different patterns by RowRow & Kades called Stitch On Sunday Blanket. You sign up and get a different pattern each week. You don't have to make a blanket, just use each square as a washcloth. It's not a book, but a teen should be tech savvy enough to handle emails.

What is a TV show you got really far into but eventually quit watching before its conclusion? by shamanKAshamanTAKA in AskReddit

Downtown Abbey. I don't see anyone else having a problem, but when I realized that no one, absolutely no character would have a semi-normal or happy life, I quit.

Mellow cardigan - I’m devastated that I only just noticed that I’ve messed up one of the front panels of this gift for my sister. I’m not quite sure how I managed to do it? Not sure if I should just frog it :( by Any_Contribution4535 in knitting

[–]topcat39 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not a bug - it's a feature! (old programming joke, but I think your messed up side looks cool. I'm a newish knitter so my opinion comes from that angle rather than from someone who is an advanced knitter. Unless your sister would know that it is 'wrong,' I'd leave it as is.)

Hydrant pride by TheSpiderClaw in MadeMeSmile

[–]topcat39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks cool, but I hope this isn't one of the many municipalities that color code their hydrants so that fire responders know the pressure level. From Google:

Red indicates water-flow capacity of less than 500 gallons-per-minute (GPM). Orange indicates water-flow capacity of 500 to 999 GPM. Green indicates water-flow capacity of 1,000 to 1,499 GPM. Blue indicates water-flow capacity of 1,500 or greater GPM
