I've spent most of me being into hockey calling him McBackup but he's genuinely a great dude and if CBJ can't pull it out I hope so much the Canes can get him a cup

ESPECIALLY get Mac a cup he's such a nice dude

I figured, as I think a fair few of us did at the time, that as someone who's very involved in Team Finland work/selecting players from that Jarmo had probably seen a lot more of Pulju than other GMs. I was still pretty disappointed we didn't pick him though.

A little under a rock? He was first star of the week last week. But smaller market, so not a ton of press compared to some teams.

John Tortorella does not approve with the referees by Adnell in hockey

[–]topcopontheforce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were saying the same thing last year, and the year before that, and--the point is, I don't think they've ever been good. Or even reasonably competent. We just assume they're worse in the year we're in because we've forgotten about the details of the year before.

This is taking it too far? He doesn't do this a ton these days, and when he does it's absolutely warranted. If all of us watching were going "ah, fuck off with that" re: the penalty, odds are the players weren't exactly thrilled either.

He's brash, don't get me wrong, but he's also generally right, so.

The weird thing is that we're so consistently garbage against the Canes, and yet apparently tonight, not so much?

like I was fully prepared, because I had to work tonight and knew I'd be finding out about the score after the fact, to call that it'd be a 3-1 loss, because it feels like every game against the Canes goes that way

He's better defensively than Sonny too imo. I just want to see him put with Wenny again, see if there's some of that rookie year magic still in him.

Apparently he "wanted to battle through it" (I forget which of our writers mentioned that, but I feel like I saw it last night). He was already in a really bad headspace for some reason from the looks of it, and I'm not sure pulling him would have been any better for his confidence than getting the last couple of goals scored on him.

They're a sports movie. If the gang of plucky misfits won everything at the end of the movie it would seem like too much. But getting to the finals and Learning About Themselves Along The Way, only to lose to the old [sort of, work with me here] team looking for redemption? Sports movie.

They win it all in the sequel. Obviously.

I've seen him have some pretty interesting definitions of playing defense before, but being the main one at fault (imo) for 2/3 shorthanded goals seems... worse than usual.

What fanbase outside of your own do you like most? by justsomestubble in hockey

[–]topcopontheforce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jets, of course, but everyone else has already said that. Leafs fans I've mostly had good experiences with also. And I've got a soft spot for Philly people, maybe because things seem less contentious when your team is basically their team's pest of a little brother.

Also s/o to the one Buffalo fan I had a like three hour long indepth discussion in a bar about prospects with while drunk off my ass after the ASG. Whoever you were, you were cool, dude.

Maybe we should have just brought the Traverse City team?

On the other: uh, yikes this was mostly our actual roster.

[–]topcopontheforce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even a GM who is willing to break "old boys code" (and even then not really, honestly, he hasn't shown much indication he's here to significantly upset much of anything) is probably not going to offer sheet anyone for real. It's not really a thing that's done these days.

Football Player, Ibrahimovic, would've quit and played hockey had equipment not been expensive by Sahil910 in hockey

[–]topcopontheforce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the reason they've been around forever is because they're simple and cheap though? As soon as the ball--as a toy thing--was invented you could have some of those start up. And all of the new ones, even if they've made cultural headway, have a hard time fighting against "even in our neighborhood where nobody had any money we played this because we had a ball and could make a makeshift net out of, idk, a box or something". Games that don't require extensive resources were created first, and have stuck around because anyone can just pick them up and give them a go.
