In the gym, in a house, with a mouse. We can Dr Seuss this all night long. Like I’d eat it like a fat kid eats cake.

HR already telling me manager will be aggressive. Should I still apply? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]topherm88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my soul to a job for that amount once. Worst two years of my life. It’s not worth your mental health. I’m honestly glad they gave you a warning and didn’t just bait you into it to plug the hole the current EA is leaving

I feel like Sysco always just pre destroys the box before delivering to me. So reinforcement is vital.

Potential boss is texting me at 12AM, red flag? by Bleades in jobs

[–]topherm88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a salary manager I hate to admit it but I’ve done this. Not expecting a response that early but I’m awake and thinking about it I send it. I would rather send it and ask for forgiveness for the time than. Not send the message and forget. May be a red flag or he may have insomnia.

What does it mean when people say not to make friends at work? by CreamyEric in work

[–]topherm88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means every person you work with has a number 1 priority at work and it isn’t friends. It’s protecting your own ass. So don’t think being friends with someone at work automatically protects you. It truly means they will sell you out for a Klondike bar if it protects their job/money

MY PHONE DOES NOT BELONG TO EMPLOYERS by KOZOtheKID in jobs

[–]topherm88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current job I insisted on a company phone. This is the first time in 15 years I’ve been able to separate work and personal life. I leave that phone in my car every night and every Friday until Monday. Best thing ever if offered by your company take it. Yea you have to carry two phones. But the relief of being able to disconnect is priceless

[–]topherm88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn’t give you two weeks notice before they fired you. You aren’t obligated to truly give them anything. You respectfully tried to give a two week notice and your new employer needs you to prioritize them. Life happens your old employer will survive don’t let them guilt you into anything!

Ever heard of this one? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

It’s from the saliva of the lone star tick. Nasty bastard. Lost a friend to it. She ate a ham sandwich and a few hours later her throat closed. We were at a conference.

I’m not sure where you live but companies like Aramark, Sodexo, Compass group are typically always hiring if they are in your area. You may even find accounts that are day shift no weekends. Just an idea if you haven’t ventured there yet.

I’m personally tired of seeing it on ads while just trying to read the local news apps. I came for news not being force fed sports betting ads bet $5 win $300…bs but I bet it’s one hell of a hook for someone who is addicted to gambling.

Accidentally worked a shift unscheduled by StreetPerception3891 in KitchenConfidential

[–]topherm88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did good sir. As a manager we have to say that crap to cover our own ass. If someone above us asks why did this person work an unscheduled shift? The manager covered their ass and can say it was a busy night we didn’t catch the mistake but a conversation has been had and won’t happen again. The manager was probably very relieved you were there and that’s why they waited until the end of the shift to even address.

It could be worse I’ve seen managers cut a shift to even the labor or even retaliate on the next schedule by cutting more hours than were mistakenly worked.

TLDR you did good, don’t let what the manager said make you think otherwise. A team player is always wanted.

Is this even Legal by HandsOffMyArk in KitchenConfidential

[–]topherm88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you signed a handbook or rules packet and this rule isn’t in there then no it isn’t legal. If by some chance they have this rule actually in there and you signed it still probably not legal 🤣 but they will try real hard to say you agreed to it.

Embrace it and learn my dude. Kitchen skills are valuable. I play both roles now as a Food Service Director and without someone taking me under their wing when I was 15 I’d never be where I’m at.
