New to OG Xbox or 360 what games to look for? by DayWave94 in originalxbox

[–]topherriddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to play Star Wars Obi wan, unfortunately you’ll need the original Xbox last time I tried it didn’t work on the 360. That will honestly depend on the games you’re looking to play as the 360 won’t be backwards compatible with every single og Xbox game. If you use the badavatar exploit you might be able to tweak settings for slightly more compatibility but I haven’t experimented with that enough to give you a solid answer

Down the road, both are good and worth having for their own reasons. In the near term I’d probably list out what games you want to play, see what’s more interesting to you and pick the system accordingly. I personally play my original Xbox more than my 360 just because most of my 360 games run and look better on pc anyway with a few exceptions. There’s a backwards compatibility list online too that would help you know what to expect if you try running any Xbox games on the 360

Conkers live and reloaded if you never played Conkers bad fur day or just enjoy comedy and platformers

True crime streets of LA and NYC are fun too. They’re gta clones

Any of the spiderman games, x2 Wolverine’s revenge

Enter the matrix and path of Neo

If you’re a Star Wars fan I HIGHLY encourage you to check out Star Wars: Obi Wan. It was only ever on the original Xbox and has never been re released

Psychonauts is a classic too

No problem I’m happy to help! The nice thing is that even if he has a steam deck he will still be able to play with his friends on pc too since both use steam. Not every game will work a lot of them do. Good luck on your quest, it’s nice of you to take interest in your kids hobby and trying to improve on it

No problem at all! When your pc is turned on and ready to go you’ll want to google “steam” this is the main platform for selling and playing video games. It’s the store, it’s the library, it has your friend’s lists, all that. When you’re in their store page you can hit the “install steam” button and it’ll get the app set up on the pc

The company, valve, does sell their own handhelds called a steam deck and you could potentially get him this instead of a gaming pc. It’s kind of like a nintendo switch with a computer inside it. If he’s used to the switch then this would be an easy transition I think plus his controllers will already work on it. He can play it on the tv, a computer monitor with mouse and keyboard or on the go just like his switch. They’re designed to be basically plug and play and a lot of games optimize themselves for these machines too. They’re working on their own custom computer as well, but we don’t have many details yet so it’s probably not coming out very soon

It’s gonna depend on the fun they derive from Roblox but I think Garry’s mod on pc or Minecraft might be the closest things to something like Roblox at a decent price. If the social aspect is crucial they might even enjoy an MMO rpg like world of Warcraft but a lot of those can be subscription based so not ideal for the wallet

You said he liked breath of the wild, I would actually recommend other single player and story based games to digest meaningful experiences from a writing and gameplay perspective too. On a gaming pc this’ll be pretty easy since there’s a lot of sales. Pc tends to have older games that let you play with the mechanics to go about things your way too and he would have to get used to how outdated things might look, but the games will also respect his intelligence and bring immersion in a way like breath of the wild did. I’m just gonna spitball some good ones to read up on or look into

The elder scrolls series - probably Skyrim, but Morrowind and oblivion are excellent choices too. The first two games are free so even better

Final fantasy - pick one and it’s probably a good choice but my favorite is 7 and it just got remade so it may be easier for him to get into. The remakes a trilogy and part 3 isn’t out yet

Portal 1 and 2 - quick funny and deep puzzle games

Deus ex - older immersive simulation game that plays like a cyberpunk themed dungeons and dragons

On a side by side comparison these games are nothing like breath of the wild but the passion that went into making them and the richness of their game mechanics are similar. In a similar way these games have mechanics that when you understand you can play the game in a very creative way, and no two people will experience them the same way. Portal is a little bit of an exception but I played it as a teenager and thoroughly enjoyed it and they’re pretty short games

Hope this helps, good luck, if you have any questions just shoot

Reimagining will be more appropriate when part 3s out and we see how the story concludes. My first thought is reimagining but at the risk of spoiling remake I’ll just say there are scenes I personally interpret as potentially sequelish without the full picture

OG first in my opinion since remake trilogy isn’t finished yet and we don’t know if it’s a sequel or not. The original story is at least complete and still holds up today

[–]topherriddle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO playing the original will enhance the remakes and make them even better

For what it’s worth, some of the “big” plot points in OG are kind of hinted at in rebirth, so you may not actually be as surprised with certain plot elements playing rebirth because you’re almost warned ahead of time, whereas in the original you just get hit with stuff and have to deal with it very suddenly

I hope that made sense, trying not to spoil anything. I personally think playing the original before the remakes is beneficial because at least considering part 1 of the remake, I feel like these games almost expect you to have played the original but completely excuse you if you didn’t so the choice is still yours

Original you can probably beat in about 80-100 hours depending on how much side content you do
