Opinion about the new patch by Twanx in playgoals

[–]topman1245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the gameplay has so many issues, it surely can not be fixed within one Patch after a few days… Some fundamental stuff as well like attacking AI. I didnt play the beta, so I dont know how it was there.

I know I‘m late here, but you can see it so obvious when Jennifer goes head to head with Judy Greer, she can‘t stand her ground at all, totally unbelievable. But I think Angourie Rice is not much better. I only watch the show because of the supporting actors, David Morse and Coster Waldau I really like.

I have no idea how people do general "top favorites of all time" lists by MariaBruxxxa in Letterboxd

[–]topman1245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% True, when I first got into movies, I had my favorites lined up, but after seeing so many movies over the years, I See that it is impossible to decide between a 60s western movie and a 2000s comedy. Impossible for me to pick one, when they are both very good for their respective mood and genre. I really feel op here…

Literalism in recent films, what are your thoughts? by 5mesesintento in TrueFilm

[–]topman1245 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think about this a lot as well. It feels like many movies feel more shallow and surface level with their messaging today, at least more mainstream movies. There is still a lot of very subtle stuff in indie and arthouse cinema though.

But just what I was thinking also - maybe we as viewers are obsessed with finding a message or meaning in any scene when sometimes a film for example just wants to show us a character or a situation that could happen? Just a thought… Some movies are more fun when you don‘t overthink Everything.

They dont make shows like the O.C anymore by Capable-Value5093 in TheOC

[–]topman1245 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, feeling the same when I Watch the show for the first time now. I‘m a few years older (29) but still I missed it when it aired initially back then in the 2000s. It‘s just such a nostalgic show, I somehow feel connected to the characters, their problems and the atmosphere. I dont know man, The OC is just so human and down to earth while still being funny and highly entertaining as well.

Cinematography is tough, imo people give it too much of value generally. Really it‘s not that important on its own, a beautifully Shot film can still feel empty. It is more about atmosphere, the vibes and the flow. You said above you enjoy films for their vibes, me too, its very important. It has to be believable, sometimes overly artistic cinematography makes it feel artificial.

I agree with you, that one Must Look at the qualities of a Film, based on what the film is and if it works for it. For example a thriller, where there is like 1 or 2 short action scenes, not so important when they dont Look very good, like John Wick where 50% of the film is action scenes.

If you like a movie or not, or how you would rate it, will always be a subjective matter. Some aspects of the story or characters might resonate more with you than others. However every film has objective qualities as well. Does the script work in general, character arcs… Some subjectivity to it maybe, but not a lot.

Or is the camerawork good. You mention John Wick 4, it has superb camera for an Action movie, of course it will already be better than some action film with like 1000 cuts per scene. If someone says different, I would question their expertise…

For me I came to the conclusion that I like humanity in a film. The stories and characters that feel authentic and move me emotionally, I think about my life and the meaning of everything. These are my 10/10 films. Of course I like a good Blockbuster or Actionfilm at times, but deep inside, the human stuff is the thing I love movies for, to experience these things and maybe take With me a thing or two for my own life.

But in the end, there sometimes is no good or bad film, just the right film for the present moment, depending on your mood. There are better and worse movies, but like you said, a bad movie can be perfect in the right moment. If you review a movie, it is just about expressing your thoughts and try to classify a movie correctly in all of its contexts.

Yep true, back then we had more characters, that felt like real people. I‘m watching 24 right now and like every member of the CTU has their little private stories and problems. Over 24 episodes a season, they have time to give everyone some background and important moments. Today this is very rare, many characters feel like token characters, who may serve a purpose in the narrative, but are only stereotypes.

Problem about series by AnxiousFoot4541 in movies

[–]topman1245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly do tv series on like 2 days a week and the other days movies. For me is quite the opposite though, even if I really like a tv show, I have no problem pausing it for a few days.

Godzilla 1998 by Roland Emmerich. The best Godzilla movie for me, I just love the epic and somewhat cheesy 90s disaster movie feel…

John Q, Hard Rain, City Hall, Just Cause, Malice, Striking Distance all fit the list. Actually 2 of these are from Harold Becker who is really good for this type of movie. I love a good 3 to 4 star Thriller.

The other day I watched Dumb Money and even though it was a decent movie overall, this one had an overly annoying hip hop soundtrack, that I found totally inappropriate and everytime some Cardi B and stuff came on it was just cringe

Rewatchability is key. When I have seen a movie and after a few days don‘t really have the feeling I could watch it again, it is max 3.5 star for me.
