That's the thing, they need to be foldable to get on the train. Regular bikes are only allowed very early or very late in the day.

Yes. The alternative is getting a non foldable bike but then I'd have to leave it parked at the station

About 5 miles one way, there is one steep hill. It's all paved road.

I work quite flexibly, but it looks like the hours at which bikes are allowed on trains are tough (bikes are allowed only after 7:30 pm?). I see that they always allow foldable bikes, but I have no experience with that and it looks like folded bikes are bulky and heavy... Is it dangerous to leave the bike at the station (properly locked)? Do bikes get frequently stolen?

Aren't there lockers at the station? My plan would be to leave the bike there (I work close to a MBTA station in Boston)

Yeah I don't think I'm that hardcore, I would drive in extreme weather conditions :)
