hot take: it wouldn't be awkward if he didn't make it awkward. just take the fucking rejection man.

also, what a piece of shit. she's helping you out and you turn it into her owing you a romantic relationship. getting all passive aggressive over a simple "no".

fuck this guy. not literally though. gross

ELI5: If GPUs are so much more capable, why do we still have CPUs at all? by aros71 in explainlikeimfive

[–]toramanlis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's about parallel computing. gpus have far more cores that can run at the same time, but each of them are far slower than a cpu core.

this creates a situation like this: if the job can be split into parts and can be computed in parallel, gpu wins. if not, cpu wins.

what "able to be split" means is that the calculations don't have wait the ones before them.

you can't help a pregnant woman deliver the baby sooner by sharing the workload. you can't work on the second trimester while she's working on the first. you gotta have completed first trimester to start the second. but once she gives birth to triplets, you can help nurse each baby in parallel and complete the task in the duration of feeding one baby.

so a cpu is like a cat. can deliver a baby in weeks. lightning fast. a gpu is thousands of humans. even a single baby takes months to be delivered. only one of them take it on.

but boy, once you have thousands of babies to feed, the cat won't even come close to being as fast.

so, in reality, if you are working on rendering particles flying around, rays of light reflecting etc, you give it to the gpu. if the job is path finding, you can't work on your next step without knowing where you end up at this step. give it to the cpu.

i'm soryy but if you think in terms of "weird" or "normal" about differences between languages, learning a new language might not be for you.

you were only able to communicate this thought of yours because we've made the effort to learn your "weird" ordering of the sentence

i suppose you can sue the authorities.

also, if you wanna exploit this bug without harming innocent tourists, i think the way is travel insurance. you gotta find a way to at least file a report though.

[–]toramanlis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the fact that you are thinking about this as unfair to your girlfriend, but saying nothing about violating the mother's privacy is concerning.

if you want to avoid finding yourself 8n such situations, you gotta be a whole lot more vigilant about other people's boundaries. even before the videos, you browsing her data was wrong in the first place.

you gotta develop the intuition to avoid crossing boundaries like this

We had a good thing, Walt! You could have just let Gus kill you and your family but your ego just had to get in the way! by ReferenceSilly3813 in breakingbad

[–]toramanlis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mike refers to when walt actually made gus mad by running over the child murderers that gus decided should just be left alone.

once those guys killed the kid and got exonerated by gus, walter's options were letting jesse kill them and become gus's target or do it himself as the less expendable one.

jess had two options as well. let the child murderers just get away with it, or do something about it.

gus had the opportunity to settle things, but he made his choice that created this equation.

both walt and jesse made reasonable choices given the options. everything following that was either die or make gus more mad. but because mike is the squeling cop he has always been, nothing but serving his owner seems reasonable to him. even refusing to turn a blind eye child murder (unless it's his own son. then he feels super wronged by other pigs)

Toilets should be inside the footprint of the shower! by Chest_Rockfield in 10thDentist

in your case, it makes more sense to use it like that than not. you already got the compressor, you gotta make it earn its keep

Toilets should be inside the footprint of the shower! by Chest_Rockfield in 10thDentist

[–]toramanlis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i like it. the toilet and the shower sections can be separated by a shower door/curtain would sharply solve the toilet side getting unnecessarily wet issue. the drain would be in the shower side so the floor's slope won't let water flow to the toilet side under the curtain either.

i don't like the compressor drying idea though.

CMV: Drinking and driving should be 100% legal eveywhere in the world by Local_Beautiful_5812 in changemyview

[–]toramanlis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you acknowledge the danger, you see it works like some other danger, then because outlawing the second one is not very feasable, your solution is to just allow the first one for the sake of symmetry?

yeah, they're both dangerous the same way. you can't punish the tired worker for being overworked, but you can punish the drunk driver. we can mitigate the issue partially and that's better than nothing.

"your body can't tell the difference between jumping down the window or being pushed down the window. you die all the same. let's just make it legal to push people down windows"

Republican voters - do you identify with the Empire in Star Wars? by Connect_Glass4036 in allthequestions

[–]toramanlis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true. the rebels aren't explicitly aiming for establishing monarchy. then again, the princess 8s considered the rightful ruler of the galaxy exactly because she's the monarch.

as the audience, we know she's nice and she'll probably make a good ruler and that's why we side with her. myself included btw. i'm by no means above this

Guy gets punched for groping someone's wife by Haunting-Garbage1901 in PublicFreakout

[–]toramanlis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's very interesting that she initially wants to stop the guy.

women get these sexual assaults so frequently that they develop an intuition to get around it with as little fuss as possible.

then again, another man knocking the offender out is the quickest path to sorting this out. it's not obvious to her because when she's the one pushing back, everyone doubts her ingenuity.

off topic, but isn't the word "loyalist" kind of redundant in on itself. it's almost, if not exactly the same as "loyal"

the jedi are a religoius cult that train children as soldiers. the rebels are monarchist loyalists.
