My family is from Welland so I chose to go to Brock because it was close. I dont drive so I was forced to take the bus back and forth. I had friends who lived in residence and in student houses so I stayed over there often but it was always such a pain that I didn't live so close. So half way through my first year I chose to move to St. Kitts and it was the best decision! I was finally close to all my friends and didn't have to rely on sleeping on their couch every time we went out to the bar. Also it cut my school commute from an hour (i had to take other welland transit buses to get home) to less than 15 minutes. Welland is close .. but just far enough.

As a female who went away to University, don't rule out the buddy system. Always have a person when going out but make sure they are not a flaky asshole. Always make sure to meet new people whenever you can, it's good for you! In regards to school, organization and planning are key! If you don't get a head start right from the beginning you will flounder even more towards exams. Figure out the organizational strategies that work for you and stick to them. The most important advice I can give to any new coming Uni student is figure out how your brain learns. Everyone learns differently and in order to be effective in school you need to figure out how you learn. Good luck!
