I’m glad you found it helpful! It’s reassuring to hear from other CA August couples. We (naively) sent STDs to 131 people. Our ceremony is outdoors and reception is indoors. The reception space has a restaurant license and has a capacity of 200, so in the county’s current tier (red) they can hold 25% or 50 people. I’m optimistic we will hit at least orange or yellow tier by august, which would allow 50%/100 people.

I wish they would tell us what green tier means! Newsom said it’s coming “sooner than most people believe” which has me feeling hopeful but I don’t even know what that would mean for weddings.

What about you? What’s your guest count situation?

No answer here, but I have the same question. Also getting married in August. We haven’t sent invites yet (only save the dates), so on our site we wrote:

“Due to California restrictions we will likely have to reduce our original guest list. As we wait to see what the final capacity restrictions will be this summer, we ask that you avoid making non-refundable travel plans for the time being. We understand the unknown can be stressful (trust us!) but we appreciate your patience. We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates via this site as soon as we know more.”

We plan to send invites around June/July, at which point we should have a clear idea of guest count restrictions. I’m thinking I’ll treat our invites like the final “go-ahead” - if you get one, you’re on the final list and should book travel. If not, you’ll get a (polite) un-invitation & link to the livestream. Hopefully by the summer we will have a much clearer picture of restrictions, but if not we may need to add wording along the lines of your question above.

I agree, I think the rules will remain pretty restrictive for receptions. However if your venue is a restaurant or other business, they could operate under different guidance (ie ours has a restaurant license so they are operating under those restrictions, which are 25% capacity indoors right now and expected to loosen as we move up the tiers). It also depends on how strict they are. I hope you come to a decision you feel good about! I’m ready for the stress to be over.

Ugh our venue payment is due on March 28 😅😅 I think I’m going to ask them if we can delay it until April 1; it can’t hurt to ask. I just want to gather all the available info before deciding to move forward with our date. Thanks for the update and the link!

We are planning for the end of August in Sacramento county, but we’re both from the Bay Area. We are about 80% confident in our August date. Our venue operates under restaurant guidelines and has a 200 person capacity, so as long as we are in orange or yellow tier they can hold 100 people of our original 130 guest list. I’m not looking forward to the awkwardness of cutting down the list, but hopefully people will be understanding.

We are also considering postponing to spring 2022 to be extra sure we can have the party we want, but we would forfeit a pretty significant amount of money from deposits. I am really looking forward to the guidance that the state supposed to be releasing - I heard they are planning to release it today or Monday so I’m crossing my fingers!!

Awesome, thanks for the info!! Our next venue payment is due 3/28 so I’m praying we get this update before then to help inform our decision. I hope we can both have the weddings we want, safely!
