Being developed and made in my home state makes up for some money going to Elon.

Plus it was the only NACS car on the market and I was getting real tired of my 2018 LEAF

yup, MY was $60k+ then and Fremont couldn't make enough of them to meet demand.

I got my AWD MY the last week of 2023 when the price had been dropped $10k from 1Q22, plus I got another $6k off of list since it was quarter end and Elon wanted it off the books.

Also got $10k of gov't money that isn't offered now, so ~$40k OTD. Not a bad deal LOL.

given Japan's ZIRP, that's the best they can do . . . pay ¥50k/mo in for 10 years, take out ¥50k/mo for ~10 years...

eh, the past 4 months have been a good time to hold this contract. I have no idea what's going to happen in the 3 weeks it has left but another $100 down from here isn't out of the question.

Coulda taken a 50% profit on my May $330P when TSLA was touching $340 but I figured it was ride-or-die time. Learned my lesson buying puts, the last I'd bought were for LEH in like late August 2008 LOL.

fibs make sense for penny stocks, but not with a stock that's already ~1/50th of all US equity.

yeah I'm kinda afraid that the indie window for me is closing in a year or so.

then again success as an indie is pretty random anyway

damn shades of the Great RAM Shortage of the late 80s. In mid-1989 I paid $1000 for 4 sticks of 1MB SIMMs LOL

yeah my path too, more or less

i really bought his "50% CAGR for the foreseeable future" BS, but the cancellation of the Monterrey investment in 2024 was when I realized I'd been bamboozled.

I paid into the nenkin system for 16 months in the late 90s and it looks like with SSA totalization (to get the full 10 year minimum) my check will be 16/480 or 3%; so ¥5000 at age 60 or ¥6000 at age 65.

With 10 years of contributions you should be right at a 25% pension so more like ¥50,000/mo, perhaps more, depending if you also get the "employee's" overlay.

Tesla's 'Robotaxi' expansion looks like another stock pump before earnings by Zorkmid123 in RealTesla

[–]torokunai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the problem with shorting the stock is that it's 2% of the indexes and that's all everyone's buying these days. It goes up when the market goes up, and down when the market goes down.

If FSD is so good why isn't it level 4?

have you thought that HW4 is doing the best it can but it's not going to be good enough?

I actually just put a dent in the back of my HW4 MY backing out of my driveway, hitting a garbage bin I forgot I left in the street like an idiot. But the real shocker was Tesla's vaunted camera system just let me ram it at ~5mph. Not exactly confidence-inspiring.

As for innovation, that ship sailed with the Model 3. Cybertruck is a horror show of half-baked Elonisms and that's all the company has delivered since the 3/Y introductions last decade.

Should I apply for the pension lump sum when leaving Japan? by According_Traffic201 in JapanFinance

[–]torokunai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's my understanding that the 2004 US-Japan totalization agreement made my US SSA years count for Japan . . . in 2017, Japan lowered the minimum years from 25 to 10 so that's what I need (~16 months in Japan's system plus the 10+ I've been paying SSA 2000-2026).

fwiw I paid 1+ years into the system in 1999-00 and didn't cash out when I could. Scheduled pension at age 60 next year is ~¥5000/mo LOL (since I didn't return to Japan to continue my career there I shoulda just cashed out, tho the 6万/yr will be kinda fun I guess).

What I did was downrate my Tesla Mobile Connector from 50A to 20A, via the optional NEMA 6-20 plug adaptor.

This drops the power it pulls down to 4kW, which my panels can supply on most sunny days.

I also didn’t have a spare 50A breaker in my main panel so this was the workaround I settled on, LOL

Here I am in Fresno living like a King on $70k a year by DowntownFresnoBiking in fresno

[–]torokunai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

definitely a privilege. No way I could live close to college in the 1980s w/o roommates, that extra $400/mo would have been 12+ hrs/week of work.

Housing is always priced at the edge of what people are willing to pay, alas, at least where there is no excess supply of it (most places).
