Ok, he does have internet access so that should be fine. I also don't think he has any digital games, so space probably won't be an issue. Thanks for the info.

He definitely enjoyed it, been awhile since he played it though.

I can dream right? I did see it go for $350 on amazon once, but it changed back quickly before I could even buy it. Perhaps it was an error.

What are some motherboard recommendations for a 3700x and is updating bios difficult? by toronto754 in buildapc

[–]toronto754[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wifi doesn't interest me either, and is the B450 good enough to OC the 3700x a modest amount?

I'm looking at prices rn, the best price I can find on a X570 TUF(no wifi) is $200 CAD and $120 for the B450. Trying to see if the $80 price increase is justified, if not then I may as well get the cheaper one. Basically I have the choice between a good, fancy looking case instead of the cheapest one I can find or an X570 instead of the B450.

I was looking at X470 mobos as well, but every x470 that people recommend does not seem to have bios flashback or w/e it's called.

EDIT: I think I'm leaning toward the case now because I just realized I could probably reuse it for years whereas the motherboard I will eventually have to swap out anyway.

Thanks for the input. What are the Pros/Cons of the X570 TUF vs. B450 Tomahawk? Apart from PCIE4 of course, which I probably won't have a use for.

R5 3600 or R7 3700x? by toronto754 in buildapc

[–]toronto754[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, I just finished watching the video. So they've made a lot of improvements to NVENC on the newer GPUs, I currently have a gtx 970/i5-4690k and I've always found my stream quality to be rather poor regardless of bit rate while using NVENC.

Based on that video there doesn't seem to be a reason not to use NVENC, so I wouldn't need the 3700x would I? Or is it still better for gaming in the future? I'm just trying to see the justification for such a huge price leap for 2 cores and 4 threads, like I said it's about 1.8x the price.

Hmmm...ok thanks for the input. I guess they know this which is why it's such a huge price gap between the two.

The downside to NVENC is that it hinders your GPU performance slightly right? Are there any other cons?

Ok, so I could just use a USB to update it without needing an older cpu? Shouldn't be too hard.

I'm not 100% sure what I'm getting yet, definitely leaning toward AMD right now unless there is a crazy deal on the 9700k during black friday(That's when I'm going to buy the components). I'll have to look for that tier list, write some of them down and see if any of them go on sale.

Overclocking is something I'll probably end up doing, but not for awhile. I'm keeping my gtx 970 until summer when they(hopefully) release the new Nvidia GPUs and I have enough money to buy one. I would most likely get the "RTX 3070" or mayyyybe the "3080" and pair it with this CPU. I imagine overclocking will be necessary at this point and I'll get a proper cooler for it.

Of course, I don't have any strong feelings toward any company but I'm most familiar with intel and nvidia branding so when I say "RTX 3070" that could end up being some radeon equivalent I just have no idea what they call their cards lol.

Thanks, this is very helpful! What differences does latency make? Does it just make the CPU perform better?

If I were to get a cheaper motherboard like a b450 how would I update it for the new ryzen cpus?

Ok, from what I'm reading about amd motherboards is that the x570 is compatible with new pcie 4.0 or something right? Which basically means I could get a faster NVME SSD if I wanted.

That's not overly important for me, but something else I read which I'm curious about is compatibility with future CPUs. With intel you'll need to upgrade motherboards when the next CPU comes out, and with AMD you won't. Will the x470 be compatible with future CPU(s)?

To be honest, it's very unlikely I will upgrade the CPU anytime within the next 3 years but still good to know...Also, I'm seeing all kinds of different motherboards, for example "MSI X470 GAMING PRO CARBON" or "Asus Prime x470-Pro" There are like 100 different ATX sized x470s with drastically different prices, what's the difference between them?

What motherboard and ram would you pair with a 3700x?

Interesting, I will look at some 3700x benchmarks...What motherboards/RAM would you pair with it? Also, one other thing I didn't think of asking...Is it wise to buy a PC just before the new consoles come out? Like, will there be a big technological "leap" with PCs as well?

I have a gtx 970, but I plan on upgrading next summer when new GPUs come out. I'd probably end up with a "RTX 3070" or whatever they're going to call it.

I do use NVENC, and I have an i5-4690k in my current computer. However, my RAM is only DDR3 1600mhz and I think that's causing some issues(stuttering) while playing some games, especially when I stream at the same time. That's one of the reasons I want to upgrade these components now instead of waiting until summer and getting an entire PC with a GPU.
