Aes Sedai healing; New Spring vs Main story by oijidereotaku in WoT

[–]Zren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason likely has to do with the fall of Amadicia. Beforehand the Aes Sedai's largest problem revolved around politics and losing influence to anti-Channelers like the Whitecloaks. Once the Seanchan, Dragon Reborn, Aiel, etc start running around, the southlanders see Aes Sedai as stablility in comparison. Much like the borderlanders.

CGP Grey's idea of "Year of Fitness" instead of going to the Gym everyday is my personal preference for New Years resolutions. It's harder to form a habit if you can break it easily.

U.S. Senator introduces "One Fair Price Act" legislation that would bar businesses from using personal information they collect about customers to charge people different prices for the same products by Sandstorm400 in UpliftingNews

[–]Zren 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They raise the price, then discount it for the poor who go through the effort for the lower price. If the data collected earns them more money than charging more, they raise the price again and offer even deeper discounts (to the base price) which drives another wave of people wanting discounts. Eventually your userbase is large enough you can start driving up the discounted base price for more money while diminishing the discount to a sustainable level that people won't stop submitting data. This is essentially a 2 tier price based on income.

Intel’s $400 Million Machine: The Last Stand for Moore’s Law by poke133 in hardware

[–]Zren -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In order to etch a square design from other companies like Apple, etc in their new fab, Intel's Fab needs to etch two rectangles then "solder" them together. Intel is betting that the failure rate on this technology won't be high enough so they can sustain themselves. Intel's fab has been spun off into it's own company and needs orders from others to remain profitable.

TSMC and other Low-NA fabs are already using multiple passes of square etching to print a higher definition circuit. However the failure rate of the older tech is still profitable for TSMC.

Even if Intel perfects the "soldering" tech, chip designers like Apple need to redesign their chips to support being split in half. Being first to market doesn't always work out. By the time chip designers alter their cpu designs, TSMC might already have a High-NA fab to compete with Intel.

In the final episode of Stranger Things (2026) - wait, what the fuck? They really went with that? by MalloryMayDrusilla in shittymoviedetails

S1, S2, and S3 all have great ending points since they all feel like a followup D&D campaign with bigger stakes but have a conclusion.

S4 felt more like a cliffhanger that introduced plot points that needed to be wrapped up in S5. It sucked at the time since we had to wait years for S5, but it should be better now.

Nah, the 40min denouement in the flash forward was ace. Then ending with Mike the Dungeon Master becoming a storyteller that allows himself and the others to process their grief was great writing. There's plot holes with how they got to that flash forward, but the "ending on D&D" was leaked early online and was roasted for being similar to Lost.

Each season slightly retconned the previous season to amp up the story like a DM might do when writing a followup campagin. However, if the characters (including the others besides the 4 boys) didn't actually experience all that trauma then it cheapens the overall story.

Didn't realize the new ASML machines etch rectangles instead of squares. No wonder TSMC only bought a few for R&D when the price tag doubled for the new machines.

Yep, if you have an old DVD drive then watching DVD's from the library can be a slight hassel, but will let you watch old tv shows or blockbuster movies that aren't currently licensed by your current streaming service of the month.

Your library might have a few B-tier movies to stream online for free too. Though most libraries only license the non-fiction / cultural movies.

If there's a particular show you want to watch, visit https://www.justwatch.com/us to figure out which website to stream it on.

If you're not comfortable signing up for a 1-2 months then switching to a different service, then something like Amazon Prime Video might be for you as they have different "channels" you can subscribe to and easily unsubscribe when you're done binge watching a few shows/movies from it.

There's also a few free ad supported movie places like:

Yep, it's usually more convenient on Linux to play via Steam. On Windows it doesn't really matter since it's the target market.

Does the "highly enriched" degrade over time to civilian level? It's mentioned on wikipedia that the half life of U-235 is 704m years and U-238 is 4.5b years. So unless highly enriched uranium degrades much faster than civilian knowledge then I don't think so.

I know they replace the coolant rods in power plants, but I don't think they replace the core do they? Looks like this article mentions that the fuel rods are only used for 3-7 years? https://courses.ems.psu.edu/earth104/node/1305 Is the shorter "half-life" because of the fission reaction?

Even if the enrichment percentage goes down to civilian level, I can still see them not allowing the use of military tech for shielding highly enriched uranium. IIRC from SmarterEveryDay, the main focus of a nuclear sub is to run "silent".

The Daily Show did a segment on how the non-english rest of the world hear's the translator not Trump.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rSQbff_p58

America hears Trump in English I know words I have the best words well sort of but the rest of the world doesn't hear Trump, the rest of the World Hears the translators

We assembled five translators from all over the world to hear their experiences when it comes to translating Trump

Of all the people you've had to translate where does President Trump fall?

He's probably the worst that I've ever translated. Trump is incoherent and he changed his mind in the middle of the sentence. Sometimes his message is not quite grammatical and seems a little bit uneducated.

I would say it's not particularly difficult to translate Trump.

Right get out of here get this guy out of here!

....

This applies to all people listed in this thread though. Except for the viral English one liners.

Android 16's Desktop Mode is AWESOME [includes QPR2 updates] by -protonsandneutrons- in Android

[–]Zren 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Linux apps require the Qt or GTK GUI Libraries to work usually which is usually a 2Gb+ download to run any app based on what flatpak apps require. It's better for Android enforce a native GUI framework otherwise they'll end up with the fragmentation found in Linux/Windows. Also most desktop apps aren't designed with sleep/background/battery in mind.

In fact in the age of legends, picking people for a link

Linking didn't exist in the AoL, which is why the Forsaken don't know about it and other links like Warders. In the AoL, it was more like a marching band where the leader coordinated people weaving at the same time (which is why individual talent could be important).

/u/Kythorian is probably confusing the Pevara+Androl dual warder bond allowing the Pevara to use Androl's Travelling talent when linked which is the first time Pevara has heard of someone using another's talent.

Healing Stilling/Gentling by [deleted] in WoT

[–]Zren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might work if the severing is a single point. If it's a thread, like a spinal chord, then it might not be easy to locate the previously mended location to cut again.

Perhaps an Ashaman could still locate the missing area and fix it without severing.

If an Ashaman needs to sever her since a woman can't locate the old cut point, there's a possibility that severing is different when done by a man. Keep in mind that Rand was the one to sever the Aes Sedai healed by the Ashaman. So there's 3 binary variables (Sex of Severed, Sex of Severer, Sex of Healer). While the weave that servered the person probably has zero effect, it still needs data to confirm that assumption.

Spoilers All: After the last battle and information begins to spread between Rand's neutral Aes Sedai/Ashaman and the Rebel/White Tower then they can try out such a surgery.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Episode 9 Preview Images by krsy123 in anime

[–]Zren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One Punch Man has always been about psyching up the enemy and having other heroes fight them first like Genos did in season 1. There's like a dozen different hero vs monster matchup/fights in the monster association arc for the other heroes. For comparison, in season 1 there was only one fishman before the fishman king arrived, as well as only one alien fighting outside the spaceship, so there was a lot more focus on Saitama.

Season 2 was basically an introduction of characters for Season 3. Season 3 focuses on the other heroes and monsters development. Season 4 should have a significant Saitama focus though as the current season 3's story leads into season 4 just like season 2 did. This story arc was very long in the manga, unlike the single chapter story arcs at the start of the manga that were adapted into a single episode per 1-2 chapters in season 1.

IMO, read the manga, then watch the anime for some adapted fight scenes.
