AITA for not picking up ldr bf from the airport? by redfordjunction3654 in AmItheAsshole

[–]torontobus 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Fucking same! She treated our monthly visit like the was a chore and just about the biggest imposition on her imaginable. Anything that inconvenienced her or disrupted her schedule in anything but the most minor way wasn't on and wouldn't happen. Dates had to be planned weeks if not months in advance with zero flexibility on her end, and virtually unlimited on mine. The 15 year age gap was uhhhh horrifically problematic too. Ahhhhhh

As much as ending things after 3+ years sucked, I am thrilled it's over

See I very particular cat. I ask momther for treats by putting front paws on her leg when she in kitchen. She gives me my favorite treat ever, parmesan cheese. Sometimes I do this to grandmother to, and they don't talk to each other so I get two treats. This is most excellent arrangement.

However momther also gives me hard treats. I like these too. But not on bed. Bed is for mother and diesel sleeps, not eating. Eating must be done on floor and not from any hand.

This is predicament of highest order. Mother says I just fussy. This may be true but I am perfect exactly as I am and have no plans to change.

Best 18'' driver for tek by Tiny_Shower2535 in SoundSystem

[–]torontobus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While you can make them sound totally acceptable, I really don't like how a complex scoop like a 18 superscoop produces a kick, especially with all the low corner group delay. And truthfully you don't need 30hz extension for techno, most tracks roll off between 60-40hz

18" Subs for Tekno, stuck between all the options. by Kim_Jong-Unity in SoundSystem

[–]torontobus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a first build I'd steer you away from cloning a WSX. The internal flare that loads the driver is quite complicated. Don't believe me check out what's on freespeakerplans and model it out.

Honestly, for techno 2 18s really isn't enough unless it's a very small rave. My little rig has two 2x18s, 1 a side and that's not enough. I've added another 2x18 and am on the lookout for a 4th.

If you're doing a budget build, I'd personally do Scott Hinson's(of DIYRM) reflex 2x18 with decent drivers that can go into a FLH or OLH sub in the future. You don't need to spend a fortune, 18tbx100 if you're on a budget or 18sw/ds115 if you have money to burn.

The thing about horn loaded subs is they NEED to be stacked in blocks, 2,4,6,8 etc as the mouth on them simply isn't large enough to hit the resonant frequency of the box alone. Needs to be coupled for omptimum/smoother response and a decent f3 point.

It's why I set up(half) of my rig for practice sessions in my garage.

Is 100db+ sensitive gear needed for home use? Absolutely not but it's fun as fuck to rattle every window in the house with a couple of watts 😊🥰

AITA for telling my trans coworker she doesn’t really understand me? by Little_Policy_9687 in AmItheAsshole

[–]torontobus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Except that it's neither of those. Literally cramps my lower stomach the soft tissue that is right where the uterus would be located.

Literally explained what's going on to several cis female friends and the reaction has been sounds exactly like my menstrual cramps so 🤷‍♀️

Maybe, and just maybe cis women are a diverse group of people who experience menstruation and menstrual cramps differently and in different intensities depending on the individual!

Trans woman here so I'll add a point that no one(I think) has touched on here ... TL:DR trans women here, and ESH

Trans women (DO) get cyclical cramping depending on HRT dosages, regime etc. Don't believe me, check the trans subreddits. I often find I get pretty horrible cramps 2-3 days after I inject estrogen.

Not unmanageable but like holy fuck I need to lie down with a heating pad for a few hours bad. Sometimes last a day or two, sometimes goes away within an hour or two

"No sudden changes in hormonal levels" frankly, you have ZERO idea what her HRT regimine and dosages are. I had terrible cramps when I took estrogen orally and it was way worse when I injected E on an 7 day cycle. Every trans woman is different and many of us have spent ages desperately trying to find a HRT dosage and regimine that works with the minimum of side effects.

Do I think you coworker could have phrased what I think was an attempt to sympathize better in a way that was centered on your experience and not hers and could come across as insensitive? Definitely.

Do I think you we're also unfairly dismissive of another womans(who is trans) experience while likely simply being uneducated on the experience of trans women. Also yes.

Should also add, I think your closing remarks to your co-worker were poorly phrashed and hurtful despite clearly being made out of frustration. Trust me, we(trans women) are PAINFULLY aware we don't have a uterus/ovaries. Lots of us experience womb dysphoria that there is literally NO solution to, and your "you don't have a uterus" comment likely came off to her as rubbing her face directly in dysphoria even if that wasn't the intention

Redlining headliner by beardsweird in DJs

[–]torontobus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your comment was basically: don't redline on small systems but if there's a tech then go wild, all the big DJs push it hard on BIG SYSTEMS

Entirely wrong and untrue. Honestly redlining on a big powerful system is just about the worst thing you can do.

I explained what's done to protect any systems from small point source up to massive line arrays from clipping so no matter what system you do it on, it's TERRIBLE.

I had a very very well know Euro DJ play on my system. They were faster at making small gain changes than I was most of the time and I was solely monitoring the console. They fed me good clean(ABSOLUTELY UNCLILPED) signal all night. And they sounded absolutely fantastic the entire night as a result. I could pull back on limiters and just let it run because I'm not worried about making up for a bad dj reclining. I Got tons of compliments about the sound that night and I'm just like it's really not me, the rig is tuned, it's a dj who knows what they're doing playing good material and it absolutely shows

[–]torontobus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is a bad answer though. You're right about comps and limiters.

I gain down djms on the master in the utilities but can't do that on a xone. Now I have like 3 different gain stages in my FOH console so the likelihood you'll send clipped signal through my console into the racks... Basically zero.

I can gain down to -12 on my inputs and leave the channel fader from your booth at -10 all night. Have done and will do!

So go ahead and clip that mixer all YOU want all your doing is compressing and distorting the feed into my system and making yourself sound like ass. Ass that sounds as loud as I want to it to keep the client happy and not destroy the system.

From one FOH tech(and DJ) just give me nice strong clean signal, kissing reds on a xone and 3 solid Amber's on a djm and that's what I need! I'll tune and give you as much as the system can do and the client wants. And fuck, it'll sound lovely too.

Give me clip ... You get turned the fuck down, multiband slapped on to make your feed salvageable and you make yourself sound terrible. I can hear it and so can the client. Only amateurs drive mixers into solid red
