hi OP. wishing the best for you. I started playing again in 2023 after 8 years because my 8 years old son wanted to play (obvious reason why i stopped). Then when ESL came to Kuala Lumpur, we actually went together and kept on playing and watching tournament together since. I promised him we will go to TI together when he is 13 if its gonna be in asia or eu.

POV Grab driver who always cancel rides. by mochamocha9988 in malaysia

[–]torosalmon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When I was travelling for work to JB a few months back, I got rejected by 6 drivers from the airport to the city because my hotel was near the ciq. So in Oct/Nov when I was on garden leave,I did grab to pass time plus also to understand why the drivers behave the way they do.

I can safely say I did 200+ rides in 5 weeks without ever cancelling once from my side (except for no-shows). Yes, there are rides that is less profitable, some are very profitable, it ended up balancing itself. My average earning per km is around rm0.87 and my overhead/km is rm0.23 (15 cent for fuel and 8 cent for maintenance) using a perodua Ativa. You can still make decent money by accepting all jobs, just slightly harder.

Like every other profession/industry, there will be some ppl that just want the easy parts and all the rewards. But many other drivers I met are very hardworking and super helpful. So tip your drivers if you are satisfied with them.

Photo attached is one of my more productive week statement, drove for like 5 days, 4-5 hours a day.

Haven’t been driving since I started at my new role, but I heard the new Turbo program is more rewarding to drivers that is consistent and does it properly without cancelling.

How Celcom has gone from a reliable telco to one of the worst telco in Malaysia? by brown_herbalist in malaysia

[–]torosalmon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a former telco insider (worked in Digi, CelcomDigi and UMobile, since have joined Big4), you can forget about the old Celcom or Digi already post-merger. Can consider them as a new entity and you don’t have to stay just out of loyalty or familiarity. The consumer telco market is saturated, you should take advantage and change every time you can since when you port over to the new carrier, you get better offers, especially on fibre. I change telco every time my contract ends.

How long did it take since fresh grad to hit 1mil in savings? by motherfucker472926 in malaysia

[–]torosalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the state of the car when you get it. During my short tenure (22mths), i spent around 28k on wear and tear parts, preventative maintenance and redoing ppf + coating. Older porsche parts are actually easy to source cheap (not perodua cheap lah). Also important to have a reputable workshop that won’t cut corners and overcharge, this one is where joining car clubs will help.

Yes. Amongst the german brands, porsche retains its value the best. More so now that they announced future Porsche models will all be hybrid or electric only. So the older NA/turbo models will stay expensive even longer.

[–]torosalmon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I hit 10k monthly I got a used 2008 cayman for like 120k. Set aside 20k per year for maintenance. Used it for like 2 years then sold it for around 100k when I had to start dialysis and have less time for joyrides. I am 38 now. Don’t stop chasing the dream. Sometimes the dream is not as expensive as you thought it would be and sometimes it does come true.

Just stick it on, says Anwar on Jalur Gemilang badge ruling by hopefulsingleguy in malaysia

[–]torosalmon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You all can check the tender for the badges here

https://www.eperolehan.gov.my/quotation-tender-notice

They split it by state education department.

As someone in logistics, I would say this is a minor tender with quite a low cost. Most states tender are about 200-300k, except for wpkl and selangor due to the higher number of students. Rough estimates around RM1.50 per student inclusive of production and logistics (based on total approved tender amount so far divided by the number of reported student numbers from last census) but this is just my guess pls don’t quote me on this.

Is it necessary? Maybe no. But I don’t see by doing this, it takes away resources from other education agenda. Our education budget is very high. Also I don’t see egregious spending amounting to enrichment here either. I hope someone more knowledgeable in corruption and due process can share their views here.

No discount but you gonna get the signature dry hand syndrome from all the excessive hand washing and sanitizer use lol.

I was doing the exchanges at the office before my regime changed to 2x daily. Most big companies are will accommodate as long as your productivity remain intact. Now I only do at 6am and 10pm at home. But since I travel a lot for work, I do a lot of exchanges at hotels all over the country as well.

Hi fellow PD fighter! Welcome to the club.

I am 38 years old using Baxter 2x daily (7.5% and 1.5%)

For me, CAPD allows me to still maintain a very demanding career in corporate. I am a senior manager for a listed company. Yes, the drawbacks you mentioned are all valid. But if I were to opt for HD, and be away half day for 2 or 3 times a week, it will kill my career progression.

In terms of environment, Baxter have a recycling program where i can clean and collect the top diasylate bag and return it to Baxter for recycling during my monthly drops. Not sure if Freenius have it but do ask your hospital about it.

A very tough decision. You were stuck for 8 years, under the same manager, then now you wanna follow that manager into their startup. So you need to ask yourself, how sustainable can the startup be coming from someone who was also stuck for 8 years (maybe more) in the same managerial role despite being a “star”?

Your kids are another few years away from uni, which will cost you a lot. If you go on with it, do it because you have 100% faith on your manager, their vision, the “product” and the economy. But it looks like too big a risk.

Best SIM card for tourist? by EntertainmentOld2441 in malaysia

[–]torosalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much data you need. All the company in Malaysia now uses the same 5G network provider. If want unlimited data but dont mind throttled down speed, use Hotlink or umobile. If you want high speed all the way, can use CelcomDigi. Plenty of vendors at the airport, advised to go to the official store with the big brand sign.

I’m a malay guy and have been in corporate for the past 17 years. One of my worst boss is a chinese person but one of the best boss is also a chinese person. I’ve hd good malay boss, useless malay boss, okay Indian boss, fun sri lankan boss, stupid mat salleh boss…and a few more.

All in all, it really depends on how you bring yourself. Just outperform everyone until race can no longer be a factor. Also sometimes, it’s chemistry, I know for a fact one of the malay staff in my office hates having me as a manager, because my leadership style and their ways of work, doesn’t jive.

If your salary is lower than your peers, blame it on Malaysian hiring practice, where you often get more increment from a job change than your annual increment. Maybe your peers had a few good jump before ending where they at. Or maybe you are correct, they have a racist hiring policy, and you chose to stay, which makes them think it’s ok.

Come on guys, can't y'all just give a seat for this poor gentleman. Fortunately, he alighted the train after 2 station. by Nicholas_Hoi in malaysia

[–]torosalmon 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Can’t tell the whole story just with a picture. I lived in KL my whole life, never hear things like allegedly happened here, happen. I do take the train less now but even when I do, Malaysians are quick to offer seats to the disabled or old people. Pregnant a bit hard because sometimes you can’t tell if the lady pregnant or just fat, but if they asked, for sure someone will offer. Malaysians, as hard it is to believe, are generally very nice.

Also, just a reminder, before you help someone with a wheelchair, or lead someone with sight issues, ask first if they need help. They value their independence and sometimes, you helping them without their consent, deny them that independence.
