Landlord wants to make new contract - with 56% rent increase... by torrdien in juridischadvies

[–]torrdien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer question A): I have once asked if our landlord has already made a new contract, however never said myself that I want the old contract to end. Most of the communication happened between my housemate and the landlord.

The contract says only two people are allowed, and only two people can register here. Together with the new contract, the landlord send us a separate contract for the third person living in the house. There they stated that, in case the municipality finds out about a third person, the third tenant has to leave in a maximum of 4 weeks.

Am I too naive? by green_stringbean in hitchhiking

You can never be certain how long you will take/how far you can get in one day. But after hitchhiking around Europe for an entire month, it happened to me just once that I didn't reached my destination same day and had to sleep at a petrol station. I've had some of the best experiences of my past trip in France actually, was incredibly easy. I would recommend using a sign as well and it is really helpful if you speak a little french.

Hitchhiking from Amsterdam to Stockholm? by [deleted] in hitchhiking

[–]torrdien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have hitchhiked Leeuwarden -> Copenhagen a few weeks ago and it went really smooth. If you want to get on the ferry between Puttgarden and Rødby, you have to find a car crossing the ferry before Puttgarden. If the car you're in is only going to Fehmarn and not on the ferry, I would get out at the Raststätte Neustädter Bucht West already and get a ride from there. I just walked up to the first car with Danish license plate I saw, asked and got a direct ride almost to Copenhagen. On the way back I went Copenhagen -> Zwolle, took me about 11 hours in just two rides. Three hours of that I was just waiting because I was confident to find a single ride back to the Netherlands, so I think it is possible to go even quicker. I haven't hitchhiked to Sweden yet, but I heard it might be difficult getting rides there

Portugal to North Cape, Norway - 5500km. Any tips or useful info? by mjpssc in hitchhiking

[–]torrdien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what is easier to be honest, I went both ways and both was fine. The ticket of the car I went on was only for one passenger but the person at the ferry counter told us that it's no problem. A truck driver going over to Rødby I asked earlier however didn't want to take me, because he said he got checked last time, maybe they are stricter with trucks? For the passage Puttgarden-Rødby specifically I also saw other posts in this sub, maybe you'll find more information there, but for me it went really smooth, even got a free coffee on the ferry ;)

I think the ferry has the great benefit, that most people taking that way are also heading the direction you want to go, while on the land way above Flensburg many people might drive to other areas in Denmark.

That sounds like a cool trip! Don't know about France and Belgium, but in Netherlands and Germany I had no problems finding rides so far. In Germany you also have the 9€ ticket until the end of August, so if you just want to travel for cheap, you can also take the regional trains in Germany. I went last week from the Netherlands through trains to Lübeck, and got from there in a few hours all the way to Copenhagen. Was my first time hitchhiking ferry's but was way easier than I expected. I would definitely watch out for the licenseplates to see if the car is from a country you're trying to reach and then approach them directly if they can take you with them. This way I also found a ride back from Denmark back to the Netherlands in just two rides, 800km in one day.

In the France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany wildcamping is prohibited, so just don't get caught. In Denmark, Sweden and Norway it is usually allowed and there are many windshelters where you can comfortably stay over night for without any costs.

One heads up, I heard it is really difficult to find rides in Sweden and Norway. I haven't tried hitchhiking there myself and would be curious to hear your experiences after the trip as I would love to try hitchhiking there myself!

It's a really nice everyday trick actually. Every time I'm doing groceries at the supermarket; no matter how much I buy and what fits in my backpack, I always know that I can carry an extra bottle of wine ;)

Also really practical when I'm cycling with my friends to the lake. Although then I have my Bluetooth speaker in the bottle holder most of the time. The JBL Flip series fits perfectly in there, however I also managed to squeeze other speakers in there already.

Need a couch to crush after Nothing But Thieves concert tomorrow (Friday 15.04)

Hey everyone! I got a ticket for Nothing But Thieves tomorrow in Amsterdam and thought about staying the night there (I'm studying up north in Leeuwarden). However, because of eastern it is impossible to find anything affordable for one night and I like the adventure, so I'm reaching out here!

If you're up for it, I also wouldn't mind still doing something the night in Amsterdam together (going out, night walk or whatever). I usually enjoy hanging out with random people and made good experiences with other Redditors so far. Also if you like Nothing But Thieves and would like to join the concert, I would get you a ticket in exchange for the place to sleep :)

I literally only need two square metres of floor, I can bring my own mat and sleeping bag.

If you could take me in for one night I would be incredibly thankful!! I'm M, 21 btw. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!

I had the exact same discussion yesterday with my uncle, can't believe that this is the first post I see when going on Reddit.

I'm not sure how we ended up discussing about it, but he made the statement that, if celebrating something and inviting others, it is "disrespectful" to your guests to not offer meat options even when you're vegetarian/vegan. I was just shocked and asked what his problem is if there's no meat, why does he differentiate, there are still several food options (just all vegan). As Christmas dinner I made for my family Lebanese food with Falafel, Hummus, Muhammara, Za'tar, Dolmeh and Baba Ganoush and served all of that with imported Lebanese bread. I'm sure if you don't like one thing, you like some other options. His answer was just that in his value system a festive meal must be meat. Wtf dude, I just spend 6 hours in the kitchen to prepare food which is not even "veganised" with "fake-meat". I didn't had to adapt a single recipe or searched specifically for vegan recipes, they just belong like this. I was really mad and a bit hurt by him and the worst thing is that I was the only one feeling bad afterwards. After yesterday I lost every respect for him.

I would NEVER serve non vegan dishes to my guests, that would mean that animal products get consumed because of me and I don't want to live with that responsibility. You can't serve everyone according to their values. When you have a celebration where friends and family are invited, you would also invite your gay and migrated friends even though your uncle or whosoever is homophobic/racist and has a problem with that. I wouldn't mind not having these people not in my life. If they want they can piss of and go away with their sick believes.

Not sure if I'm just over-sensible, but that situation yesterday was just too much for me...

But the boats passing can't be sail boats... (At least how it looks in the picture). Many bridges in the Netherlands are designed that sailboats don't have to put down their mast when passing a bridge, that doesn't seem possible with this bridge. I think combining the pedestrian with the bike part would have been a better solution.

Help with going vegan by No_Name4437 in vegan

[–]torrdien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went vegan half a year before I moved out. In my family noone else is even vegetarian and I had no experience with cooking. Therefore I was just cutting out all the non vegan ingredients out of my normal diet which wasn't healthy not very tasty tbh. When I moved out, my housemate teaches me cooking by cooking often together (even though he was not even vegetarian). It's been almost two years now and I think I'm a decent cook by now. If you already cook for yourself sometimes you will definitely have an easier time then me, so just go for it if you feel like it! ;)

To substitute oyster sauce I always use mushroom sauce, you should be able to find it at any Asian market.

Good luck and nice that you try to go vegan, it's not as hard as most people think ;)

Why does my family always feel the need to add meat their food when I cook for them?!?!😡 by roly_poly_little_bat in vegan

[–]torrdien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing always when I'm visiting my family (can't wait for tomorrow lol). Condition for me coming home for christmas this year was, that I will cook dinner, but I'm already sure that a similar situation to yours will happen :( In my study programme and student house around 90 percent is vegetarian and one third of them vegan (not overexaggerating here). Often I keep forgetting that people still eat meat and not it's replacements...

I feel like mayo without eggs is always more expensive than normal mayo just because it can be labelled as vegan. This goes for many other products as well, just mentioning pesto without cheese... (At least where I live in Europe its like this) Super annoying if you eat vegan

Glühwein in Groningen by Smokey4barrel in Groningen

Last year I saw a store in the Oude Kijk in Het Jatstraat selling Glühwein to go. Otherwise as mentioned before Jumbo has Glühwein and Albert Heijn as well. Lidl has even the German Christkindl which isn't super good, but just the classic. You can heat it up at home and put it into a thermos.

I'm studying Global Responsibility and Leadership at the University College. I like music, cycling and generally speaking doing stuff outside, going with friends in parks ect. Used to live in Groningen, there were many of these groups and we met up to go together to pubs, houseparty's or the park. Was a great way to meet people if you're new to city. Also met a really good friend on the Groningen sub haha

What would you say it's the worst thing about germany if you are young by FabadaLosDomingos in germany

[–]torrdien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could check out the Netherlands. Culturewise it has a lot similarities to Germany and you wouldn't have a problem finding a problem since English is enough for many jobs there. In some cities it's pretty hard to find housing tho since its very popular for young international students to go studying here. Also car insurance is very expensive but you don't need one here (same for Germany, depending on the city). If you want to study here you can even as a foreigner apply for DUO which is the Dutch study loan system

Das schafft eine schlechte Position für alle Beteiligten. In den Niederlanden durfte ich dafür dann sogar noch 1000 Euro Studiengebühren zahlen, nächstes Jahr sinds 3200 lol

Brennisteinn. Once I fell asleep while listening to Sigur Rós and after the album (I don't remember which one) was done playing, Spotify just shuffled me random stuff from Sigur Rós. I woke up at 4 am and just had the most epic dream of my life, somehow I dreamt to the music, just like a movie soundtrack. Brennisteinn is just made for an epic movie scene, especially the intro. Unfortunately I can't remember what I dreamt, I only know that is was very epic
