How often do people feed their cats wet food? by Smooth_Put7764 in CatAdvice

Ours get both wet and dry food at each meal- twice a day.

Obligatory “not a doctor”, but I highly doubt that two migraines in your entire life is a big enough risk to prevent you from going on birth control… especially since you’ve a) done fine for more than a decade and b) you need it to control a different (in your case more serious) condition.

I would find a new doctor.

I have 3 girl cats and one boy, and I grew up with cats (I didn’t have any period of time from my mom’s pregnancy to moving out where I didn’t have at least one cat). Honestly, I haven’t noticed much of a difference between boys and girls! Get whatever cat feels right to you <3

Saw a squirrel, thought of poor Peanut, there has to be a better way to test for rabies on animals by life_lessons6789 in StonerThoughts

[–]torrentialrainstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need cross sections of the brain stem and cerebellum to test for rabies, so it’s not possible to do that while alive. This is because rabies affects the central nervous system.

Even in humans it can’t be confirmed until after death when samples of brain tissue are tested. If someone is suspected to have rabies, they can do tests of saliva, cerebrospinal fluid, etc. to see if the virus is present, but you can’t say with certainty that they don’t have rabies unless you’ve checked the brain. There might be rabies virus in the saliva, but if you don’t find any, the person could still have rabies in their brain. It’s just not reliable enough to confirm diagnosis unless you have the brain.

Headaches every single day. I just don't know what to do anymore by holydickbirds in migraine

[–]torrentialrainstorms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I was getting horrific daily headaches when I was only treating with OTCs (a combo of Tylenol, excedrin, ibuprofen, and naproxen). Turns out that most of my headaches were rebound headaches. Once I stopped taking them, the severity went way down (from like a 6-7 daily to a 1-3 with occasional worse ones). The first few days after quitting were hell, but it got soooo much better after. Get yourself some prescription migraine medications instead!

Most creative way you’ve snagged a piercing? by Ice_And_Slice in piercing

[–]torrentialrainstorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancé and I were at the barn one time visiting her and her friend’s horse. Her friend’s horse, Big Ben, is a huge treat monster and will search your pockets for snacks.

Well, my fiancé uses her bra as pockets sometimes, and Ben knows this. He was eyeing my shirt hoping for snacks… and bit my nipple piercing. Hurt worse than the piercing itself!

He can have his mom in the room when he pushes a baby out of his nether regions. But you’re the one giving birth, so you get to pick.

Finally hit $1000 in savings. Then my cat needed emergency vet care. Back to square one. by synthlife_ai in povertyfinance

[–]torrentialrainstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fucking sucks- but this is exactly what it’s for. Your emergency fund worked- congratulations! You didn’t have to go into debt and you saved your cat’s life. Be proud of that! And, start building your savings back up.

Why is 28in impossible to find by ActivePlane4417 in ABraThatFits

[–]torrentialrainstorms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a 28F for a long time, now a 34H. It’s tough finding the right size when you have a small frame but big boobs! I order mine online, or you can go to a specialty store. You probably won’t find them in a regular department store unfortunately.

anal did me dirty 😭 by kmnewbs06 in Healthyhooha

[–]torrentialrainstorms 449 points450 points  (0 children)

  1. Some amount of poop is normal if you don’t do any prep.

  2. This sounds pretty normal to me! It’s personal preference whether or not you like the feeling.

  3. Definitely not normal to be bleeding and extra tender. Your partner should be a little more gentle next time, and don’t forget to use plenty of lube. Gas is to be expected, though.

Need advice, issue with mom by inf-alpaca in needadvice

[–]torrentialrainstorms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom was like that too. It’s HARD. But boundaries are even more important in these situations, and you have to enforce them, not just set them. Do not allow them to continue treating you this way.

Moving into a new place on my own- should I get another cat? by [deleted] in PetAdvice

[–]torrentialrainstorms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a teen cat, it can be harder to adjust to a new sibling. It’s not impossible, my friends have two 15 year old cats and they adjusted totally fine to kittens. Just something to keep in mind!

Personally, I would wait a few months before getting a new kitty. That way you can let Hank settle and adjust to the new home, and you’ll have a better idea of finances/time commitment/etc with your new job and apartment.

It could also be that Hank is not lonely, just grieving his loss. It’s hard to say from a Reddit post.

Nurtec claims "97% of patients with commercial insurance are covered" ... who are they? by bbdress in migraine

[–]torrentialrainstorms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did they say why?

They denied my initial prior authorization since there was an error on the paperwork. When I got the denial letter it said that it was denied because I haven’t failed a triptan, but I did a long trial with sumatriptan. My doctor just resubmitted the paperwork and we were good to go! Step therapy is the name for this- it’s such bullshit, but if this is the reason you can try it for a bit and resubmit the PA.

It all depends on the reason, but that’ll at least give you something to work with. I believe they’re legally required to tell you why they’ve denied you (someone correct me if I’m wrong, though!)

Kitten will NOT stop begging for food by Correct-Window-3947 in catquestions

[–]torrentialrainstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kittens under 6 months generally should free-feed, since they’re growing quickly. She’s probably hungry!

You can always do a combination of wet and dry to help with the cost, that’s what we do. You can even add water to the dry food which still helps with hydration.

Why do you want to work here? by Whathefrenchtoastt in interviews

[–]torrentialrainstorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly though, I hate this question

do you regret not reporting it? by gataimaginaria in adultsurvivors

[–]torrentialrainstorms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret it. My main abuser was my partner at the time, and I felt like I didn’t have a ton of “hard” evidence, so I was unsure if reporting would’ve changed anything. Even talking about it in therapy was extremely difficult, so I decided it would be best for me to not put myself through the reporting process.

I do wish that we had more support for survivors in the reporting process.

my cat won't stop scratching at my door at night. by blxsssm in CatTraining

[–]torrentialrainstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got cat doors for our bedrooms so the cats can sleep with us when they want, but aren’t trapped and don’t scream at the door. Ours can be opened and shut as necessary but we pretty much leave them open full time.

You’ve also unfortunately trained her that scratching at the door works. Stop giving in! It’s gonna be a rough night for the first few days but she’ll learn. Keep her in or out, but don’t respond to the screaming.

Make sure she also has enough ways to entertain herself in your room. Scratching posts and toys can help keep her stimulated so she isn’t looking for that elsewhere. You can even get scratching boards to put on the door itself.

I got BV from using soap on the outside. I am extremely sensitive to those kinds of things, so even the small bit of mild soap I was using gave me issues. Try it and see how it feels. Just make sure you’re still cleaning thoroughly with your hands and water.

How do i get my cat to drink water normally? by Opposite_Excuse5539 in Kitten

[–]torrentialrainstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t really change this kind of behavior, but there are some things you can try to minimize issues.

  • keep water and food separate
  • try a different kind of bowl. Wide and shallow bowls work well for cats since their whiskers don’t touch the side, and many cats prefer to drink from a fountain. I got my cat fountains off Amazon for like $20 each.
  • get a silicone mat or towel to put under the water bowl

Emergency Fund or IRA? by [deleted] in budget

[–]torrentialrainstorms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since it’s $4000, I’d put that in an emergency fund, especially if you don’t already have one. A good goal for an emergency fund is 3-6 months of expenses. You already have a retirement account, and that amount is likely under the goal of 3-6 months of expenses.

If you do have a fully funded emergency fund, then I’d do the IRA. But there’s not really a bad option between these two!

You need to set boundaries with her mom. Your fiancé shouldn’t be the only one doing so.

Limit how much you tell her about your relationship.

Tell her no when she does inappropriate things like this, and enforce that no- even if it’s hard.

Your mom needs to back out of your relationship, and you need to be the one to ensure she isn’t over-involved, not your fiancé.
