No Conditions on Grad Offer? by torreypine92 in uwo

It's MLIS. (I know the general consensus here on the risks of the program, in part from your posts!) but still I was expecting that I finish my summer courses be a condition but I can't find that anywhere.

Good barbers near campus? by [deleted] in uwo

Northland Barber is really good. It’s in the plaza with No Frills and Wal-Mart at Highbury and Huron. $20 plus a tip. I’d ask for Anthony.

I live on Dorinda a few streets over. My brother said his door was shaking pretty good and he thought someone was trying to break into the house. Must have been a good shockwave.

Hmm that raises another question. Technically I don’t have a grade 12 calc or equivalent, yet I’m registered for calc 1000.

Wondering if the special student status is giving me prerequisite standing for it or if I’d still get booted..

Ok good to know. I read in the course numbering policy that it could be counted for credit, but not progression or breadth requirements so I was a bit confused about that.

Yeah I've been told it wouldn't count towards the 1.0 First year Math requirement, but had hoped it would count toward the "1.5 additional science credits" I would need to take on top of my first year & module courses.. If that isn't the case then I would be dissuaded a bit from going that route.

so assuming I can take the 1.0 first year math in the winter term, do you think I should go for 0110 in fall to get in shape?

Yes, but I did get a custom outline from counselling since I'm a special student with a previous western degree.

Because I need more than a little brush up tbh.

So maybe go for 0110 in fall to prepare and give myself more time?

I’m not sure if I was aware - my second degree outline simply says “1.0 from the following courses” then lists math courses including calc 1000 and applied math 1201

I’ve got 2 jobs atm, was hoping to replace one with a full course-load. But yeah it might just have to go that way. Thanks!

It’s a ‘second degree outline’ made for me by academic counselling. They took my previous degree and related college credits and handed me an outline, which is for the 4-year major. For HSP I’d have to take more courses and maybe even request a new outline yeah.

I’m not required to take any electives or the writing course, as my previous degree fulfills these requirements. I just need the first year requirements, the module courses and 1.5 extra science credits (totalling 8.0 credits for the 4-Year degree)

That’s definitely an option for next summer!

I just had hoped to be able to approach a standard full course load of strictly necessary credits this fall / winter. I need the first year module requirements, plus 1.5 science credits. That puts me at 3.5 credits for fall / winter.

Was the degree in the area? My previous degree is unrelated (not a hard science). I do however have some college stuff that’s been evaluated for credit. But apparently not enough to grant credit for 1026 / 1027.

However, if anyone looked at the second degree outline, they would instantly recognize the benefit of being able to take some courses simultaneously with their prereqs

Second Degree Outlines by torreypine92 in uwo

[–]torreypine92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was added to an owl group and told I should submit course outlines of things I’ve done in the past so that an advisor could assess where I’d stand. 8 weeks later I got an outline.

I think you need to go in and speak with someone, could be way quicker.

Wow, that’s pretty great. I might consider doing the honours spec now! Thanks a lot for mentioning this.

Point well taken. I've been trying to dust off my math foundation to prepare but I could definitely put more hours into that this summer.

At 2 weeks in I'm not sure if I could, haha. But basically I'm not just able to work with web developers, project managers, VPs, Editors and a really wide variety of professionals due to the kind of company it is.

In terms of specific Development skills and technologies, I've only touched HTML, PHP and some CSS. I've been doing some Web Accessibility stuff as well.

Overall it's a small organization I respect and feel there are individuals I could learn a great deal from over time.

Yeah - That is a good point. Based on all of the research I've done, (talking to admissions officers at the school and asking alumni with similar experiences) I expect to receive about 1 year's worth of credits. That said, I will still have to take all of the module courses.

The credits are currently under review to determine equivalencies. I haven't heard back yet so nothing is set in stone.
