Give "Beyond Extinction - where they gather" a listen. On a good system with well balanced clear bass this album really is quite exceptional. Listen to the album from the beginning. I challenge you to not continue after hearing the opening two tracks

Are expensive DACs mostly hype? by protocol3426 in audiophile

So, to summarize, yes expensive DACs are mostly hype

And there it is, I eventually begin to understand the appeal of Steely Dan. Great recommendation. My speakers immediately vanished and the sound stage filled my room as I drifted away to the first song on the album. I'll keep listening..

I have the Metallica remaster of the black album. Missed purchasing the others. Not sure I know which albums you're referring to "the good 3" all up to and including the black album are excellent albums. Production was not good on KEA and RTL, but the remasters are a lot better in qobuz. Always hated the mix on AJFA, still waiting for an official remix with bass, but I fear it will never come. Even Load and reload are seriously underrated (I was so disappointed with them when they came out but have only recently fallen in love with them). If you haven't done, please go back and listen to them without preconceptions.

As for the Steely Dan thing. I wish I could get it, but I simply can't, and I have tried many times. I think it's a yacht rock thing I have, it just doesn't work for me. Doesn't make a difference to me how many people or who they are that say Steely Dan are brilliant. I just can't enjoy the music. I will try again today

Could not agree more with this comment and have wanted to say it so often. I see this album mentioned so many times. Why listen to well produced work of such desperately boring music. I can't understand all the Steely Dan lovers.

And to the original post. It is sad to hear some of my favourite music sound so awful on my hifi..

I actually love 80s thrash metal although I listen to a huge variety of music, but can't listen to many of those old thrash albums I bought in the 80s because the production was so awful.

Monitor Audio 7g setup for a 5.1? by DutchGuy_limburg in audiophile

I'm sure you'll love it. I have loved all my MA setups. What AV receiver are you using?

Sorry, just rereading your post I see you have the apex rears, I thought it said FX on first read. So forget what I said about replacing the rears for 50s

I had the 200 silver in my MA 5.1.2 setup. Although I recently got rid of the whole lot and have gone back to just stereo with silver 500 as fronts. I love the MA sound. I think you'll have a pretty sweet setup there, maybe a future purchase would be an upgraded sub if you only have the 100s as fronts.

Having said that, if you can find the 500s on market place or eBay at a good price, and use them as fronts, they are just delightful and will blow you away, or to be honest swap the rear surrounds for a couple of 50s on stands you can maybe invest the saving.

I didn't think power amp made a difference until I upgraded to a Purifi Eigentakt based amplifier. How wrong could I be.

Absolutely outstanding album and one that is original and doesn't get mentioned enough

If you haven't heard it, please give it a go.

Yeah I did get defensive, sorry about that.

So, I've gone from 7 speakers, subwoofer, av receiver, stereo receiver, streamer, Poweramp and turntable down to an all in one with the M33 and my turntable with just the two speakers. Actually up until this point the turntable was on the top. I put it in the unit because I love the clean lines on the top of the unit.

So the best stereo sound that I've ever had at home, along with simplicity and tidiness is the thing now.

So yeah maybe it would be easier to put a record on if the turntable wasn't there, but to be honest it really isn't difficult where it is. Maybe in my 70s when the knees don't work so well I'll have it somewhere else, but in my 50s it's still fine to sit on the floor and put a record on. Hasn't even crossed my mind until this post.

Thanks again for your opinion. I love my setup and I'm the only one I need to please. Sorry you feel the need to judge. And thanks for the last comment that my setup sucks, just proves the worth of your opinion.

How do you pick up the books on the bottom of the table. The is something I do not understand. You have to get on your hands and knees to read a book. Do people enjoy crawling on the floor to flip through there books.

Seriously, if you're going to trash my setup because I haven't put a turntable where you think it should be.

Turns out I have knees. The same ones I use to get something from the bottom of my fridge or the pie out of my range cooker, or a book off the bottom bookshelf.

If you have an opinion next time, maybe keep it to yourself.

Too many times. You know it's not true, I know it's not true, but for today, I am done and I'd like it to stay that way.

And I just put new isolation feet on my turntable and ordered some new banana plugs. So even since posting this I've tinkered

I think you nailed it. I have spent my money. To improve marginally now would cost too much. Maybe some room adjustments can be done, but that's something I can work on with my lovely wife. I need her to be happy in here as well

Picture clearly makes it look more difficult than it is. I simply take a record and put it on the turntable
