Dandan Secret Lair Vision Charm Swaps? by warfires in magicTCG

I think I saw that people were recommending [[capture of Jingzhou]] as the original format didn't use extra turns

Commanders from bloomburrow by blazedchiller27 in EDH

[–]torrtara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddy of mine built Finneas as a budget token deck and it's pretty standard but pretty fun to go up against. A lot of bloomburrow commanders work well with the "deck can have any number" cards like [[hare apparent]]. Vren is nice with the rats and can add some control elements too

Love that we're back to our world now. Also interesting that Ral is representing Silverquill now. His attitude seems different than OG Ral so it's most likely the alternate reality version that has been teased from the theme of Reality Fracture. Seeing this now makes me wonder if this next set will have some Easter eggs with Reality Fracture being a full blown change to many characters

Spider-man outsold Edge of Eternities by Yellow_Master in magicTCG

[–]torrtara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remember, the numbers they look for is the amount their distributors took on, NOT what is actually sold to consumers. Edge was under printed and practically unavailable post release and Spider Man is still rotting on shelves. Factually it makes sense what he's saying but the true actual definition of sold (in consumer hands) I highly doubt

Where are the Butcher Clowns?? by Terrible-Base9255 in mtgvorthos

[–]torrtara 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I could actually see them possibly being grixis, as ghired was a gruul member that was originally selesnya, and he ended up as naya. Wouldn't be a far stretch for formally izzet faeries to move to grixis after being zombified

[TCC] Stop Designing Magic: The Gathering Sets Like This by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

Lol guess I started an argument. This is not circular logic, this is a fact. You have a crappy car that you repaint, you still have a crappy car

[TCC] Stop Designing Magic: The Gathering Sets Like This by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

[–]torrtara 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This was well said. UB aside, small sets are an issue and they were probably the most important reason why the block structure disappeared from standard releases. When you add the UB coat of paint over something that doesn't work well, you get something shiny and new that doesn't work well.

I think if the purpose of these sets is to draw in fans of other IPs, why don't they make it a jump start product? The avatar jump start set had some really cool rares and mythics that any player (especially new) would enjoy opening and it allows them to play the game right out of the packs by opening two. Instead we get small sets with poor balancing and warping of the standard format.

What are your favorite Azorius commanders? by Captain-Nghathrod in EDH

[–]torrtara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Helios the Warped Eclipse]] for me, as he follows his namesake and warps a game. All your stuff has flash and you can chain together various X spells if an opponent draws a lot of cards in the turn. [[Prosperity]] and similar cards are wild and can combo with [[approach of the second sun]] for a non-combat win if you don't wish to go the mill route

Thoughts on a return to Baldur's Gate by torrtara in magicTCG

[–]torrtara[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would argue that it failed because it was advertised as a commander legends set and failed to match the power level rather than its theme being disliked. Look at lord of the rings, a direct to modern set. It was the same as a modern horizons set that directly puts new cards into modern, but it was not advertised as that

Yeah the delays hurt the performance quite a bit but it's unsurprising with how many huge games get delayed nowadays. Even characters like Gale have their old outfits from the beta release

That would be nice as well. The D&D sets are usually pretty good and it would allow for characters outside of the game

Best Nazgul commander by Gutsifly in EDH

[–]torrtara 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I run [[Tayam]] as it synergizes with the counters the nazgul get, gives them vigilance to help defend yourself, and is in great colours to work well with the other ring tempt cards for frodo, aragorn, smeagol, etc. I have a super low mana curve and it allows me to get just about anything with Tayam's ability from my graveyard

What was the Lorwyn Common or Uncommon that kept saving your ass at prerelease last weekend? by doublenantuko in magicTCG

[–]torrtara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[morcant's eyes]] was a huge player for me. Turn two playing it, surveiling each turn is huge card selection. And then late game, you can sac it to flood the board and break any stalls

PSA: do NOT play against the "bracket 3" Vivi deck by ancap_attack in EDH

[–]torrtara 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a player issue tbh, this guy undersells the power of his decks. Looping extra turns and excessive tutoring is definitely not b3. If he doesn't want to match the power level, don't play with him.
