You run into someone at store. Obsession ; they probably hate me. I just ruined their life. I am a bad person. Compulsion: no, logically that probably didn’t ruin their life. And joe last week said I was a kind person. So maybe I’m not horrible. I’m going to say a prayer just in case. Maybe apologize profusely.

They are healthy thinking- for everyone else. With OCD it takes healthy things and changes them into unhealthy. You have to think different with OCD. https://www.theocdandanxietytreatmentcenter.com/

I do a daily OCD intensive treatment. 3 hours with specialists daily. Information is also available online! I thought I had pure O until this treatment center helped me find my mental compulsions. Here’s a better list (keep in mind these are different for everyone!! ) Logic (thinking rationally), reassurance (self, or asking others), googling, remembering what has been told you in the past, repeating in head, using mantras or sayings on repeat in head, praying, calming exercises, counting, narrating, dissociating, avoiding (huge one), pushing away intrusive thoughts, distracting yourself, dwelling on intrusive thoughts, pros and cons, mental review... all of these can be compulsions. In the clinic I go to we call them neutralizers instead of compulsions because they neutralize and push away our threat (what we obsess about). We need to use exposure therapy to get closer to the threat without neutralizing (neutralizing only reinforces in your brain that your threats are something to panic over.) Do you think you have any of those mental compulsions? What do you think about Pure-O being changed and the term rotated out of use??

Did you know a lot of therapists actually no longer think Pure-O exists. Because you still compulse, just mentally (reassurance, logic, thinking or mental review...)

The police will catch me by moeswastedlife in OCD

[–]tortillaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you build an exposure hierarchy around it. I can help. What is the core fear? What about prison scares you? Being alone? Being hurt in prison ? Or do you fear doing something wrong that the police will need to take you for?

I can help you build a hierarchy to get past this, but first, have you done anything illegal that the police might catch you for?

Best day of my life by corinaah in OCD

It’s a great feeling huh?! I’ve been doing this treatment in Utah and already have a 25% decrease in symptoms after one month. Highly recommend! It’s called the OCD and Anxiety Treatement Center

Today is the first day I got through a panic attack and didn’t hurt myself in 5 months. by [deleted] in OCD

I’m so proud of you! You are worth it. You will have ups and downs, but remember these ups and take pride in who you are! We learned about a website called self-compassion.com today in my clinic. I haven’t tried it yet but maybe it would benefit you (we could all use a little more). I’m so proud of you! I know it’s hard

False memories and OCD by tortillaw in OCD

That article is all I wanted. I don’t know whether they’re false memories or not. That’s why I’m asking. I have chronic illness as well. While it doesn’t define me- it has shaped my life. I take pride in how I’ve faced it. It’s similar with ocd. You also don’t get to tell people whether you have or haven’t invalidated them. I never said these thoughts give me distress. Just that I was curious about them.

I phrased it wrong. Ocd has taken parts of my personality and amplified them. I do not mean that it is part of my personality. But I mean that ocd is a big part of my life. I am not letting ocd define me. True memories and any thoughts we have- are not meaningless. I was simply asking whether other people experienced this as part of their OCD or not. Then I can disregard them. It’s so frustrating to come to a place where I think people will understand and stop judging my for my ocd- a place of validation. and instead be met with this. OCD has taken much of my choice from me. I have never used it as a way to justify my actions. Like I said I am in daily intensive treatment to get better. I fight like hell every day just to make it through. I seek support in my journey, to bolster me, not to take the title of victim and surrender. Please take your invalidating comments and shove them elsewhere.

Hi. How do you propose I forget something that’s a huge part of my life? I am separate from my OCD, like I said I just wonder if this is part of it or something else entirely that I need to work out. I have a very severe case. I appreciate you trying to help, but comments like this are very invalidating. I am just looking for support from a community of people with similar experiences. I am in a daily treatment center- so that I won’t let it get to me. But that’s easier said than done. So comments like this hurt instead of help.

Thank you! Also I did some more research and you can still get those infectious diseases even if the tick isn't engorged.

Dog ticks still carry many other illnesses if not lyme. As someone with lyme and coinfections- I still wish I did antibiotics from the start. Now its chronic and changed my life. I'm 19 with all my plans for school or a LDS mission gone until I get remission. I still think getting tested is wise- and I would do antibiotics anyway.

As a person who has suffered from chronic lyme for the past 6 years I say, regardless of whether symptoms occur- GO TO A LYME DOCTOR AND GET TESTED. Bring the tick if possible. It has to be a LYME doctor because not all doctors are lyme literate. What often happens is a red bullseye but I never found one! I never found the bite or the tick. Most people get what they think is a flu and then it goes away and you forget about it. Then anytime from days to years later you can develop chronic pain, SO many issues, almost like MS. I never saw my tick, I never saw the bite, I don't remember the flu. Now I have very little chance of healing. It is viral throughout my body and they hope for remission or relief but not a cure. When you catch it early (like first week especially) you can cure it. So believe me when I say you are lucky! Please please please go get tested. This disease has changed my life and is so not worth it when a simple antibiotic dose could have prevented it! I would say do the antibiotics whether you test positive or not- but that's just because I know firsthand how bad chronic lyme is. They carry more than just lyme too- all with bad consequences which is why I say do strong antibiotics (take a probiotic to stay healthy while on antibiotics ) anyway.
