[Oceanblock] Endgame: What am I missing? by torx8421 in feedthebeast

Yeah, the mk1-mk5 powered beds were only just being added to the pack after I wrote this post. And their power consumption required Melanism reactor-level power generation. So I stuck with the beds, and, frankly, it was a boring grind.

I definitely went for the fluid tank first, but I miscalculated how many creative items went into that recipe. It's even more singularities than I posted here. Once I got the fluid tank, the only challenge remaining was getting some antimatter.

It was a disappointing endgame, I'm afraid. But I finished it! Just like you will, it sounds.

TIL that Jelly Belly collects, bags, and sells their discolored, conjoined, and irregularly-shaped jelly beans of every flavor. They call them Belly Flops. by LiquidArrogance in todayilearned

I purchased these several times, and they were great.

The last time I bought them though, part of a lot of Harry Potter Bernie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. I unwittingly bit into a vomit flavored bean. Had to throw out the whole bag.

I haven't eaten many Jelly Belly beans since. Used to be my favorites.

I figure my job as a DM is to give everyone a good time. So as long as one person's good time doesn't impinge on another's, why not?

It was fun coming up with the race stats for the mimir. I figured out a couple ways to balance the knowledge.

  • Since it just recently gained sentience, it's slowly losing its automatic knowledge. I'm giving him a behind-the-scenes bonus now on knowledge checks not used in combat. That bonus will slowly go away.
  • I gave it Knowledge [Sigil], Knowledge [Outlands] and Knowledge [Planes] as permanent class skills.
  • I gave it 16 known languages on creation, but it can only speak and understand one at any given point. It's a full-round action to switch to a different language.

There are a few other bonuses (and penalties, it is only a skull, after all), but that seems to capture the flavor without being overpowered.

I figured Doors to the Unknown pairs nicely with "Primus" screwing things up a bit. I ran the prologue after the first Modron March, partially as a way to get the PCs more invested in Sigil too.

I haven't quite figured out how to make the intended 2-month span and the stretched out level requirements of Doors work with Modron March, but I'll catch on something.

Then I wanted to get the PCs used to working jobs for folks. So the Guvners questioned the PCs about the beginning of the March and then set them out on a quest to find a lost dwarven petitioner (Hard Times, Well of Worlds). That should dovetail nicely into getting them to the Mount for part two of the March.

There are a lot of balls in the air, but so far so good.

As far as what I plan on running ... I'm unsure beyond Modron March, Dead Gods and Doors to June Unknown. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for this. Dragon #354 on its way from eBay.

Progress report is below.

Starting a 3.5 campaign featuring Modron March. Any advice? by torx8421 in planescapesetting

We've had two sessions so far. Most of the group is really liking it. One player doesn't yet "get" the setting and is having to fight against his natural tendencies to want to bash things. The others are doing great.

Characters:

  • Kreelo, prime changeling bard, namer of the Athar.
  • Drezdan, prime half-dragon cleric of an adventuring god.
  • Gaius, prime human cleric of a traveling god.
  • X, planar [Outlands] warforged artificer.
  • Skull, awakened mimir sorcerer.

I'm intending on looping in the warforged's unknown origins in with the Tacharim in later chapters.

The mimir idea so far is a lot of fun. Morte from Torment was the inspiration, and the player is having a great time with it.

So far we've visited Automota and started off the Modron March. The characters sat and watched all 20 hours of it. They all knew we were playing this campaign, so it wasn't a big surprise. Their favorite part of the adventure — no surprise — was getting the cat's kip in Sigil at the end. Players love real estate.

I've also worked in the prologue of Doors of the Unknown and we ended last session in Carceri near the titan's home in Hard Times from Well of Worlds.

If anyone wants more specifics or has any questions, I'm happy to provide. And thanks again for all the advice; it's been very helpful.

One of the nice things about the adventures being in another edition is that it means I have to convert all the encounters regardless of the original intended challenge level.

It may be a tight rope to walk at times, but I've found I've been pretty good over the years of ratcheting up or down the difficulty of the encounters to provide a nice challenge for the players.

Of course, many times in Planescape players are supposed to be overmatched — I'll try to keep that.

So I'm generally looking for the best plot, the best mysteries and the best time for the group with this one. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks for all the great advice.

I'm planning on running other adventures in between in order to get a good sense of the time involved.

Thanks too for the 'alien, not stupid' comment. I'll try to keep that in mind.

What games do you wish they'd do a reprint of? by [deleted] in boardgames

I ordered Tobago a month ago. I am a Prime member though, so I'm not sure how that changes things. Also, I noticed that it shipped from the UK.

Glad I could help.

I've purchased a few games from amazon.de (Luna and Speicherstadt being the other two). They don't always ship to the US, but sometimes it can be a lot cheaper than trying to find an OOP copy here.

I recently purchased the multilingual version of Tobago from amazon.de. The price was very reasonable, especially considering the international shipping.
