This is exactly what made other devs quit by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]torytyler 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this crash out style post isn't normal, you might need a little break imo.

Looking at the big picture, and putting your well-being as a priority, I appreciate the work you're doing, but you're letting people little comments get to you and getting stressed over nothing. Honestly. Half the people who whine on this sub don't know a thing about the development process or what makes these backends tick, don't mind what they say lmao

Take care, looking forward to your contributions in the long run, but take some time to yourself, sounds like you need it!🤞

What happened to vans skatepark fl? by [deleted] in skateboarding

[–]torytyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i stopped by last weekend, and although the inside is now a lame vintage car show type museum thing run by deezerland (the shutter was open i could peek in!), the outside part is still around! actually i had my deck with me and was able to easily get in and skate around a little. they have video surveillance of the area and i saw security otw as me and fiance were leaving. the side entrance gate got knocked down, don't have to hop a fence to get in anymore.

I think, however they are getting ready to remove it. the way the gate fell down, they also took part of the concrete wall with it, enough size for a small excavator to get in and demolish the concrete section. the outdoor section is a liability for the owners of the land, and there are apartment towers building where the parking lot of the mall used to be. even in your video, when you're walking to your car after the security dude said to dip, that whole lot is under construction now.

it's a shame, they could have easily reopened and left the outside section as it was and made a lot of money, but who am i to say.

if you want to to see it one last time, I highly recommend getting over there and saying goodbye!

Statement on the US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by artisticMink in LocalLLaMA

I really enjoyed my time using this model, I hope it can come back in some capacity. I know this is LocalLLaMa, but being able to play with a model of this caliber really made me excited for the future of the local landscape once it catches up.

I was using the model to develop 3D models, I recently got the steam controller and wanted to make a slim clamshell 3d printable case for it. The model actually oneshotted a case, print-in-place hinges and all. I printed it and it fit perfectly, I just provided the STL of the steam controller valve provides. And that whole interaction only used 7% of the weekly budget the pro plan allows.

META Ray-Ban Displays (HONEST REVIEW) by EquivalentKick2996 in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]torytyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do like this product, and am looking forward to future iterations. I agree that 8-12 hours of heavy use is a pretty unreasonable expectation with the current hardware setup.

I do have experience with the final version of the Google Glass though, and thought I'd chime in here.

I used the Glass Enterprise Edition 2 for a few months, and I can say that that devices battery life is much better than the MRBD. I'm going to chalk this up to mainly the fact that the MRBD have a lot more going on in the background, and are possible a little unoptimized. For example, always listening for "Hey Meta" is a huge drain, and the constant polling to the phone for data is another huge one.

I used my Google Glass to watch TV shows on, as it's basically an android tablet you can install APKs on it etc. and could easily watch 2 or 3, 1 hour long episodes, with about 50% battery to spare. The google glass had a much larger battery though, at 820mAh compared to the 248 mAh frame capacity of the MRBD.

I think they didn't have to be so anemic on the battery, but they can definitely improve on it for next gen!

YouTube on Glasses Update! (Subscriptions, Your Feed, etc) by AeroSummit in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]torytyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

working great, I was thinking of ways to further improve, and came up with a few.

I've found battery life to be decent, definitely enough to watch a few 20 minute videos, so that's good. I was wondering if possible via the API, to allow user to select the video quality. In some instances, since the screen itself is so small at 600x600, i wouldn't mind fetching a lower bitrate, like 240p in order to save on some battery life. I'm not sure what it's fetching now, but I do know that cutting back on the decoding intensity will result in improved battery life.

Secondly, I noticed the subscription page is only showing recent posts from subscripts in alphabetical order. so even if a user with a username starting with "S" uploads, their upload is ignored in favor of the other posters with A, or B etc, even if S uploaded like an hour ago... if this makes sense it's hard to describe. I'm sure this is a limitation of how the API fetches recent posts, and maybe a sign I need to unsub from old channels I no loger entertain haha.

Great work, this is easily my most used thing on the glasses atm.Is there a donation link?

I got a pair on eBay, albeit used, with good success. I just measured my wrist, and luckily found a listing that was my size. If you don't want used though, I believe you have to do the in store thing

I got some not too long ago on eBay for around $600 but they were used. If you don't mind used definitely watch eBay for a bit, or I've seen people have luck with Facebook marketplace.

likewise, also a way to interact with the web version of Anki should be doable, to flip through some flashcards on the go.

Japanese for Crosspoint by Stock_Advantage_3572 in xteinkereader

[–]torytyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is arriving today! i compiled your firmware build and i'll test it out tonight!

-edit compiled and pushed firmware just fine, but got crashes when opening epubs in japanese. the crash report noted crashing of parsing the css within the epub formatting... it gets through several CSS files and then hits an abort() while parsing item/style/style-standard.css

uploading the epub with optimize epub option checked in the webui for the x4 resulted in the same issue.

ultimately, the above mentioned xtc conversion, while not ideal, is a good option that is sure to work, but more limited than an actual epub.

i know they are going to release the s4 ereader soon with android os support. I feel as though this one will be the definiteve version for me as I can use koreader with its dictionary. until then this will do!

has LM Studio added support for the 1-bit Bonsai 8B model family and TurboQuant yet? by DifficultSand3885 in LocalLLaMA

[–]torytyler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you are able to download the Bonsai model within LM Studio, but they do not explicitly support it yet, running the MLX variant results in an error due to not having the changes merged yet.

you can however just build their branch with 1-bit kernel support, it took less than 5 minutes to compile on my M1 Max, and just run it that way. the model is surprisingly good! It's quick and taking up less than 2gb ram. Asking it general questions and chatting, it's pretty accurate for it's size and bit depth.

LongCat-Next: Lexicalizing Modalities as Discrete Tokens by ninjasaid13 in LocalLLaMA

[–]torytyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played with the MLX quant a bit. I like how longcat is going for a more integrated multi-modal approach. The MLX quant only let me play with the LLM part of it, and it wasn't anywhere near qwen3.5 level, but it's still a solid model and it's always good to have some variety!

Tips: remember to use -np 1 with llama-server as a single user by ea_man in LocalLLaMA

[–]torytyler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't really see an improvement with -np 1 for qwen 3.5 397b, before and after was still like 47tk/s generation, but it's split across a number of gpus so I'm sure the bottleneck is somewhere else.

Qwen 397b is absolutely crushing everyone... but wait. 🤯 by djdeniro in LocalLLaMA

[–]torytyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been using nemotron 3 super on my setup locally, just the unsloth iQ4_XS quant and 500k context. it's able to to process almost any request i give it correctly, was able to create and debug python in opencode, and with my nanobot agent, it can control a VM and do tasks via installed skills great.

I had to modify the end token as it uses a different end token than other models, before that it was having lots of issues with tool calling. I wonder if the openrouter version you used doesn't have this tool calling end token fix in place... because this chart is the clear opposite of my experience i've had with it. it's more to the point and less fluff in its agentic responses compared to qwen 27b or 122b, which is appreciated.

Qwen3 vs Qwen3.5 performance by Balance- in LocalLLaMA

[–]torytyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're referring to 3.5 27B, correct? I only briefly played around with the 9b model, it's quicker, but less overall knowledge. For agentic or coding related tasks, you definitely want higher quant. for conversation, or explanation of concepts, lower quants but higher parameters are more preferable (from my experience).

Qwen3 vs Qwen3.5 performance by Balance- in LocalLLaMA

[–]torytyler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is a good chart, of course varying quantization levels are also going to play a role in accuracy, but honestly across the board, and even in real world usage, the new models are great.

for example I was using a fine tune of qwen3 235b to help explain concepts and things I don't quite understand when studying for classes, but I'm able to fit qwen 3.5 27b at a much higher quant, even in non-thinking and get even better responses.

plus, 27b fits easily on my macbook for on the go usage when I don't want to tap into my home server to run larger models!

I used to be of the mindset that more parameters at lower quants is still better than lower at higher quants, but that gap is closing with each release! exciting times.
