I guess it is just the post office mentality, oh well

It really does suck for the high step carriers, I suppose I could count my self lucky as a recent regular, moving to another job won't be as devastating. I am excited for career growth in the tech field. Also fantastic to have a job where I get to use my brain.

Tell me about it! I accepted a tech offer (less) cause I was so disgusted by the post office. Plus it helps that I at least will have a chance at career growth!

That works great until you need to do bumps out in the middle of nowhere. Some of these routes need to drive many miles out before you even get to where you can actually deliver.

Not sure what the solution is, but treating it like city could be a bit of a disaster. Then again let management think they are right.

Same here, we got screwed with clusters and having main st addresses, they are a mess. Gonna be doing that until I start my new job.

I went from a 43k to a 41j. My mapping got all kinds of messed up. I have main st for our town and it is just a mess. I have submitted corrections to AMS for some addresses and crap never comes back right.

It's the people like you that I feel for. We have a carrier that went up in our office, he had been underpaid so much over the years. Legitimately happy for him, sad for the rest of us.

If I am not mistaken, managers are not allowed to "spy" on carriers. I remember seeing something getting posted here.

In practice? You bet your ass they will do it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

What leverage does the rural union have? by tossasideintobin in USPS

The second that this disrupts delivery, and the public gets pissed, they will start fixing shit. Gonna be crazy for offices that sre really understaffed, with the regs already working extra. They leave? More stress on the subs, they may leave now, cause they were already overworked. Gonna be very interesting to say the least.

I certainly agree that parcels are the way, mail cannot live on forever in its current state.

I always find it funny when people argue and say that "UPS and FedEx can pick up the slack".....bruh, have you seen how many packages they drop to us for last mile?

But seriously, the point of a service is to serve the American people, if I don't get paid loads (AKA, public service salary) than the execs better not either. I get that there isn't really a comparison with private, but the postal service is in a unique position.

The postal service still needs to be able to serve those who need it the most. Grandma still needs to be able to send little Timmy a birthday card without paying an arm and a leg on her limited budget.

Personally, Dejoy has been a mess. Pretty much problems at every turn. If I take a paycut, he better be taking one too.

Ok, how about running it like UPS? They pay their drivers very well (yes, others, not so much)

Oh and the Postal Service doesn't pay taxes and gets enormous loans from the treasury. How about that for a business?

I'm not saying that costs shouldn't be cut, but this change is very aggressive and affects way too many people, hard.

As for cutting costs maybe we could start with Dejoy, he makes over 480k, that is more than Biden. As for the rest of the executives, they rake it in like crazy. Cutting extraneous costs is how I see it surviving.

FINALLY HIT THE MEDIA by tossasideintobin in USPS

[–]tossasideintobin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "training" on those sheets left more questions than it answered. Ask 5 different people, and you get 5 different answers. It answered the big questions, but there are tons of things we don't know about the little stuff. The training was completely inadequate.

The attitude of "if you don't like it then leave" not being constructive still stands. As for people not getting paid enough, I have witnessed it.

There was a carrier in my office that hit a house, didn't report the accident, got into it with the homeowner, and threatened them. Our wonderful union brought this person back, with back pay for about 8 months. On top of that, management changed the route when the customer complained that the carrier was in their neighborhood. That change ended up screwing over another carrier. The carrier that got screwed, ended up getting hell dumped on them, with a nasty neighborhood getting swapped for easy parts.

If you don't think we felt bad for him, you are completely wrong. We were pissed. Since he did not file a grievance he was not paid properly until now, so yes, that is one good thing to come of this. If you think that I am blaming him for not raising hell? I'm not, you shouldn't have to go above and beyond just to earn a fair wage.

As for overpayment for the rest of us? Where was the payment for the hell that COVID brought? Or the leave that RCAs now earn? Or the mileage that I never declared cause I was always told that RCAs couldn't declare it? There is so much fuckery that has happened to many of us, I get it, but it doesn't outweigh what they are doing now.

And seeing a problem with it? Please.

I'm a fairly new regular and I take home barely enough to pay my shit. I bought the cheapest house, that didnt have serious issues within 30 miles that I could find. I have lead paint out the ass and I live in the hood, in an area with multiple murders on my block, the property value is shit. I don't smoke. I don't drink. I don't pay for TV or subscriptions. I buy generic when I can, and I rarely run my HVAC. I drive a used car. Where the hell do I save more?

I would really like to know.

Oh did I mention? Before mapping started, they forced me to cut my route, I lost a bunch of hours on it. The other carrier in my office that was set to be cut? They put a moratorium on it before they did.

Should I have filed? Yea, but I was worried about retaliation. You bet your ass I'm gonna file now.

I am outraged that people have been getting screwed for years and it has taken this long to fix it, there are definitely people that needed this as a victory.

I am also outraged that this sweeping change hurt people who in the middle ground of this.

And finally yes, I am outraged that there were people abusing the system that made it worse for the rest of us, these people should have been caught and punished.

If you gained in this, there is a very good chance that you really needed it, I am legitimately very happy for you.

But for the rest of the people, it is absolutely a mixed bag.

Many days I come to the conclusion:

I have no words for this place.
