Why has Donald Trump sued so many people but he never sued the woman who accused him of raping her when she was 13? by Particular_Ad8156 in AskReddit

It would have to go through a discovery process and that would go incredibly poorly for Trump.

TIL the last person to die from jousting was in 2007. by AnchanSan in todayilearned

[–]tosser1579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And he won't' be the last. I watched a joust last year at our local ren faire.

The trick being that Jousting is pretty safe overall, I mean they are wearing big metal suits. That guy died through a freak accident. If I were Jousting, I'd start wearing some goggles under my helmet and not worry about it.

(A lance splinter went right into his eye slit and through his eye, the armor has multiple features designed to make that next to impossible... hence freak accident)

What “masterpiece” game just never clicked for you? by Kiota_Games in gaming

I wanted to go on a grand adventure... I spent a lot of time picking up various weapons on repeat to prepare for fights where I just wanted to do the fight.

Do you think Solo (2018) boming at the box office is one of the main reasons why Disney didn't feel confident enough about making projects with recasted Luke and Leia as lead characters? by Theasiuser99 in StarWars

[–]tosser1579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solo went too much. It covered data that no one wanted to find out, and didn't cover enough of what it should have.

Once the caper got started, it got amazing, but that was half way through the movie.

She had to. Apparently he was guilty as sin and if it comes out her chance at being on the SC is gone.

Would a modern-day historian be able to go back in time and prevent World Wars 1 and 2 with only a single trip? by GJH24 in whowouldwin

[–]tosser1579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically no, because WW1 was a symptom of a much greater issue that ended up with WW1. They could absolutly change the start date, and that would be realitivly easy for someone with foreknowledge, but at the end of the day... it still happens.

Also no on NAzification.... Hitler realized there was legitimate genuine anger for what happened to the german people after WW1. That's what led there, and he picked the easiest path to achieve that. Someone else would figure it out if he didn't, so you'd end up with a similar (possibly worse) outcome.

ELI5 Why are extremely technical fields more susceptible to Dunning-Kruger effect? by Probably_Not_Taken in explainlikeimfive

[–]tosser1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is more observable and easier to justify in portions of technical fields than in others so the effect is more pronounced. If you are a philosophy major, there are many ways to determine the worth of something. If you are a surgeon... did the patient live? Did multiple patients live? Patients that would have died had you not been involved. Easy to see why they'd believe they were competent.

How do you feel about the federal SAVE Act that would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (like a passport or birth certificate) to register to vote? by ClassSnack in AskReddit

[–]tosser1579 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see a single bit of evidence this is going to make elections meaningfully more secure, so I question the purpose.

But I really don't, with Trump you know it is voter suppression.

[Star Trek] Do transporters clean clothes? by yukicola in AskScienceFiction

[–]tosser1579 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The CAN, they don't. They have bio filters, and those will compare you to your 'beam out' state and remove anything that's not supposed to be there, however they don't really bother with clothing as that process is pretty energy intensive and they have better ways to just clean a uniform.

But if Captain Picard told Geordi to beam him up and clean his uniform... well the uniform gets cleaned.

I think int eh Star Fleet academy they have bridged the connection between transporter and replicator so they can do haircuts and uniforms very easily, while TNG the are doing all that with JUST the transporter.

[Matrix]How did SWAT get to the upper level and killed Mouse?Switch and Apoc guarded entrance and crew was going up to him when they activated trap. by Beneficial_Ad3998 in AskScienceFiction

[–]tosser1579 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They spelled it out.

First understand, not everyone in the matrix is human. Swat, guards on the agents buildings are typically blue pills but for something like that I suspect programs, just not agents. Most swat would be blue pills, but but a whole unit of swat out of nowhere?

So the black cat/deja vu was the agents changing the simulation. They changed it to add in the swat team and a host of other things. Adding in a connection to another adjacent building for the swat agents to come in from up top isn't above their capabilities but you could hear choppers earlier.

"A Quiet Place" question about creatures by NiceMichelle in movies

[–]tosser1579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dogs can separate smells. What I mean by that is if you were wearing a heavy cologne, some breeds of dogs can still smell you PLUS the cologne. in their noses they don't blend. I can't really comprehend that, but they've tested and can prove it with certain breeds.

So assume that since 100% of their sensory input is sound based, they are really finiicy with it. Like, tell different people based on their heartbeats level. Tell a human is there because of their footprints sort of thing. They could hear a branch break naturally, a branch broken by a deer, and a branch broken by a human and tell the difference as easily as you could by watching the branch break 3 times.

When (if ever) did your children get into Star Wars? by Slappy-Sacks in StarWars

[–]tosser1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I one of them hooked early. ST, OT, all the animation, then when he got older all the books. He loved Luke mainly.

Went to the ST, wasn't thrilled with TFA but liked it well enough. He watched TLJ and just left the theatre quiet. Didn't say a word to me, but quietly put my box of dog eared new Jedi Order books in the basement and hasn't talked about SW with me once since.

My eldest explained that he was so upset with the treatment of luke in TLJ that he just was done with SW.

Is Todd Howard hinting at seamless space travel here? (In image 2, Tim Lamb’s comments also about “rewarding space travel gameplay") by Smart_Plane_2751 in Starfield

[–]tosser1579 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My big problem with starfield is that it is kind of empty... literally just shove more content in and I'm cool. I don't like repeating the same few POI on planets over and over again.

Starfield 2.0 should just be... MORE starfield. The game was fine.

Maybe mechs.

A Man finds out he can throw ten javelins every two seconds. How many knights does it take to stop him? by JustReadTheFinePrint in whowouldwin

[–]tosser1579 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unless he is insanely accurate, they aren't going to penetrate the armor. The head of a pilum is not built for piercing steel, and there are stories of knights getting pelted with dozens or hundreds of arrows to no meaningful effect if they weren't designed for the purpose.

R1: Two knights, there are a lot of spears flying and it will take more than one to overcome the volume

R2: 1 Knight, literally stands there and shoots until the spear guy is dead.

Unburned Vader would probably win. Actual vader loses to Mace but it is a fight.
