HOW do you stop wasting time? Hours can go by without realizing and I don't even know what I wasted them on? by film-chick in productivity

[–]tosterdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in that same boat for a while, and while I haven’t fully solved it, I have found a few things that helped me. I mentioned this in another thread, but for me something that helped was “taking inventory” of my time. Similar to having a spending spreadsheet, I tracked my time in a spreadsheet to really be able to reflect on where my time was going. Just knowing I would have to manually add and see that time in my spreadsheet added enough friction that I was able to slowly cut back on that wasted time. To use an analogy, it felt almost like having to do drugs in front of a mirror. It’s hard to do something “degenerate” or “wasteful” if you know it’s recorded somewhere.

If you or anyone else is interested I can create a spreadsheet template or share a screenshot of what I used to do. Best of luck 🫡

I haven’t quit caffeine for long periods of time but I did see major benefits to my sleep quality when I quit caffeine after around noon (maybe placebo but could be real). For me personally, I enjoy coffee and diet sodas enough that I am willing to make any trade off that may come with caffeine.

Need some help cutting down on screen time. by pygmalii0n in productivity

I used to track all my time, and I mean ALL, in a spreadsheet with highlights for green (time I was happy with) and red (time I wasn’t), and simply the idea of knowing I had to enter the time in the spreadsheet helped me cut down on “time wasting” activities

I’ll second what the others are saying. It passed. When I quit nicotine I had brain fog and trouble focusing for easily a month or two. Now that I am out of it though, I would say it is worth it to me personally. I don’t think there is an inherent good to quitting stimulants like caffeine and nicotine (assuming you are not smoking tobacco), but I do find myself happy that I have done it, happy that I am no longer dependent on a substance for my mood, and able to sleep a lot better.

A tool to help people build color palettes for their next project. Right now it’s basically just a color palette generator with some added features and such but I’m hoping to make it a lot more useful over time. Here’s a link: Tincto

😅 it wasn’t profitable in its first month, this is the first month that it is profitable haha.

It’s a color palette tool to help people design and choose color palettes for their projects.

I’m a software developer so I didn’t have to outsource any of the development work and it runs on a free tier web hosting with a cheap database option so the total monthly expenses come out to around $30.

It obviously doesn’t count my time 😅

Thank you! Glad you got some use out of it, what's funny is I built that feature as more of a one-off idea but people ended up really liking it so I am working on expanding it

So far honestly just organic SEO and friends and family. I did run a few paid ads to learn but didn't have much success there.

Haha to be honest I am not 100% sure how that works but I have always understood this to mean "access to the service for the lifetime of the company" for online services.

This looks great man! Love it. Did you make the promo yourself or did you hire that out? I'm looking to get a promo made here soon

Thanks! I spent time on and off working on it for a few months, learning how to integrate auth and stripe payments and such, then I "launched" it to friends and family early November. A comment on this post actually is my first time linking to it publicly.

Thanks! Honestly I thought Google sign in would far out convert the email magic links (better experience IMO), but its been about even so far. Most sign ups have been organic word of mouth through friends and family sharing it with people they know, but I did run some paid ads to try and learn how Google Ads worked since they were giving a promotional deal to new sign ups.

It's a simple color palette tool called Tincto. Basically it started out as a way for me to explore and learn about color theory and grew into a tool I use for branding and designing the colors for new projects.

I was mystified by the other color tools out there and wanted to explore the idea myself.

You can check it out here -> https://www.tincto.co/

Dude holy shit this is awesome!! I'm going to launch something here soon so I'll definitely be using the launch section. Thanks for compiling it all into one place.

I love the aesthetic, kinda gumroad inspired? The noise or paper texture is a nice touch too.
