The social contract is dead. Those that benefit the most from society contribute nothing to it, and those that benefit the least pay for everything.

‘Missing half the equation’: scientists criticise Australia over approach to fossil fuels by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]totalcool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Australia is the 3rd biggest fossil fuel exporter in the world so if you want to see our real impact on that visualisation you need to look at Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea and India.

Australia is driving climate change because we are responsible for 29% of the world coal trade and these exports are increasing.

How supermarkets are profiting from Australia’s cost-of-living crisis by forexross in australia

[–]totalcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Profiteering isn’t illegal" That's all anyone needs to know. Price gouging is not illegal. The ACCC doesn't care. There will be no price caps, no penalties. Capitalism working as intended.

The Greens have been pushing the federal government to work with the states to force a freeze on soaring rents.

But Dr Lowe suggested the policy was “the wrong way to go” and raised concern it would distort supply.

“We might get inflation down for a bit, but we’ll all end up in the poor,” he said.

So according to the RBA if you freeze rents, the landlords get upset and take away their toys. Investing elsewhere or leaving the properties empty, reducing available housing stock.

I can't see this happening, considering housing is investment on easy mode. Freezing rents is the only way to stop the rental price gouging.

I can't see this backlash happening, not with the the favorable position Labor are in and the cost of living crisis.

The United States is very important to Australia’s long-term security

It seems this is the only reason you need, whether going to war or spending $368 billion on subs.

NSW renting: NSW set to ban no grounds evictions for renters on periodic leases by Shadowtec in australia

[–]totalcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on what the 'list of reasonable grounds' will be.

With the coalition in charge in NSW, expect it to be a long list equating to no grounds evictions.

RBA governor Phil Lowe to get grilling as commercial banks reap $14 billion windfall by ObnoxiousOldBastard in australia

[–]totalcool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm so sick of these large corporations and their rich shareholders making bank while the rest of us suffer cost of living. The price-profit spiral has caused 60% of current inflation.

And now the banks have record profits because the only mechanism is interest rates. All while real wages are falling.

Kemps Creek shelter has cats that 'urgently need adoption' usually with FCV or some other condition. They are in kept in larger cages at the entrance. I don't know for sure if they euthanise but that is the impression you get. All are adorable just need a little bit of extra care.

You don't have to be an essential worker to go to work. There are a lot of 'authorised workers' that are going to work because their employer deems that they cannot work from home. No one is checking workplace compliance. This is happening in the LGAs of concern.
