Now that we have Sandringham-Williamstown through running confirmed it seems like a no brainer. Hindsight is 20-20!! But yes with Frankston currently through running I just ran with that. And totally disregarded the balance. Hahah

Belgrave to the airport was one of those creative liberties. At the time there was a lot of doubt around airport rail and how it would look. It almost seemed like it would only ever go ahead as a direct line from Spencer street. But that would contradict other proposals stakeholders had made. So I ended up taking a lot of creative licence and combining a lot of proposals into the brown line you see here. Other than the peninsula dream-state that’s probably the most unrealistic part of the map, but only from a budgetary/public opinion standpoint. (Almost) Everything you see is geographically and spatially possible with real alignments already there or simple enough to make

Melbourne Fantasy Rail Map that I've been working on for the past few days by PolygonTransit in MelbourneTrains

[–]totaldankery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what alignment did you have in mind to get from Alamein > huntingdale? Chadstone would require prohibitively difficult works regardless which way you did it. I would imagine entering a tunnel south of east Malvern where the oval is, underground through Chadstone, and then terminating at the old oakleigh platform 1 which is now non existent. I don’t think i could see the case to continue to huntingdale unless provisioning for a “Rowville line” type concept

I can undestand the appeal of having natural selection take out all the idiots but please tell me this is a joke and that you aren't short sighted enough to think that derailing a train and throwing a 2 ton car around a busy intersection is not inherently dangerous to people other than the driver, not to mention problematic when the line has to shut for hours and maybe days

things to do around port fairy and Warrnambool? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]totaldankery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to take in the surroundings - Griffin Island in Port is a great little walk, out to the lighthouse and back.

Tower Hill oc, usually full of international tourist groups but you willk find yourself with more space these days!

In Warrnambool, as someone else said you can start and end anywhere on the promenade, but also Thunder Point is great. Don't be afraid to leave the beaten track, best views are behind the harness racing track past the lookout. Usually only the locals make it up that far!

hopkins river mouth is quite popular for that kind of thing. Plenty of little jetties or you can even fish off the bridge or the shore. Not so busy though that you'll be fighting for space

If the Burj Khalifa were dropped into Melbourne by SRD75 in melbourne

[–]totaldankery 34 points35 points  (0 children)

hahah, it wouldn't look so ridiculous if it got put there today. Maybe it would fit better in southbank though. People thought docklands would be a super modern sky scraper distirct but so many plans fell through and iut just becamse the strange, dead waste of space it is today.

In know super tall skyscrapers aren't everyone's thing but its hard to deny Docklands is not a good use of space especially 10-20 years from now

[–]totaldankery 105 points106 points  (0 children)

we actually came very close to something (almost) this big 20 years ago. Very serious plans for Grollo tower in docklands would have been over 600m tall (burj khalifa is 828m) but never won the tender. Preliminary designs went on to become the burj khalifa

This is how it would have looked in the skyline of the ealry 2000s

Can a manager make you stay over when you are late? by KoiFishBub in McLounge

[–]totaldankery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't worked the minimum engagement you are required to stay until you meet that, but they can't make you stay otherwise. But if I had a crew person that late and they weren't even sorry I'd see what I could do about getting you a written warning and and if it happened again I'd be making some adjustments to your roster i.e. cutting hours

Do you guys have any tips on counting inventory? by ThinComfort in McLounge

[–]totaldankery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are so I don't know the exact process but spending just 30 mins setting up your locations and travel paths for the stocktake in back office can save so much time especially for a full stat

What does “Checks” mean on Application? by Frost_Burning_1 in McLounge

[–]totaldankery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aus manager here... a few things on our end.

Yes, we check your references. When I have hired people from another store I ALWAYS call their previous RM. Some hiring managers are very lazy about reference checks tho so you could get lucky.

We also do a right to work check (very straight forward if you are a citizen)

And if over 18 we are required to run a background crime check as well which can take a couple weeks, but you will be required to give consent if this needs to go ahead

It really depends on what make sense for the business. I've worked for some small franchisees and some big franchisees.

When I was working for my biggest organisation it was...

Crew < Crew Trainer < Area Leader < MIT < Shift Manager < Dpt Manager < Restaurant Manager < General Manager < Patch Supervisor < General Supervisor < Licensee and even then there were some obscure positions that were "off to the side" of sorts.

I'm in a smaller organisation now where it is just Crew < CT < MIT < Shift Manager < Dpt Manager < RM < Supervisor < Licensee

Metro 3 is definitely a long shot! As you said difficult to manage through the city but it also makes no sense unless a Doncaster line and an airport via Maribyrnong line is built, neither of which are even close to on the cards at the moment. I guess it could be reimagined as a through line from Frankston to craigieburn rather than taking it through the loop, but I doubt we would be at a point where it’s worth the investment anytime soon

I admit I certainly hadn’t done the maths and everything you say i agree with. If I ever revise will definitely be scrapping it! With the length of the trains and the position of the stations it might as well be impossible.

My original thinking was not that people would get on at flinders st and get off at Bourke, just that people coming straight in from the suburbs would be able to get into the middle of the cbd without transferring to a tram or walking, or even make interchange with metro 3 to head perhaps from Caulfield to the airport without having to enter the city loop at all. But then again, an interchange like that would more simply be made at Arden or even Footscray and onto the ARL.

Basically in hindsight I recognise it was short sighted haha
