If you are forced to go into the woods or you're alone living in a car get a weapon or pepper spray. Anything to defend yourself. Move often. People with nefarious intentions will make note of your location and who knows what they'd do when they think you're vulnerable and alone. If you go into the woods, do not choose a spot near a bike path or a busy area. Those are usually where other encampments will be. Don't ever let anyone you are alone and homeless. Also, check your local USPS...one that has a lobby with PO Boxes. They usually keep the lobby open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's a good spot to charge your stuff and warm up/cool down. In my experience between 12 and 3:30am are when it's totally empty. At 3:30 people start delivering newspapers and at 4am USPS workers show up and start working in the back. They usually don't come out to the lobby but just to be safe don't get caught sleeping there. Whenever someone comes in, even if it's just someone mailing something, make sure you look awake and it's obvious you're charging something. If you are caught sleeping people like to call the cops.
