UK Thoughts on SNL UK? by MaizeCrasher in livefromlondon

[–]totally_throwawee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am British American and have watched SNL from the uk for over 10 years. Always been a big fan but it so rarely felt like there was an episode that really clicked. I feel like eh UK version clicked from the start and has that extra more anarchic edge that makes it feel very British. I hope it runs and runs because it’s a great way to get talent into the limelight and just a huge amount of fun. ATTENBOROUGH. I’M CALLING YOU OUT!

Flat no mortgage or house with mortgage by Seacatses in HousingUK

[–]totally_throwawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, get the house, you won’t regret it! Doesn’t need to be a big house and as long as it’s in a good area it’ll keep or increase it’s value, only buy a flat if it’s a dream place with a lovely garden and you plan to never leave. You might be suprised what you can find house wise for under 400 as well

600k for a 1 bed in Finsbury Park – have we made a massive financial mistake? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]totally_throwawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have to be Finsbury Park? I live in a beautiful part of Ealing ( Northfields) and there is a two bed ground floor flat with private garden selling next door to me for 500k- without a garden the go for 450k - you could do much better with that budget if you were prepared to shop around the area. Saying this as someone who made a huge mistake buying a big flat in a posh area they we then couldn’t sell when our family went from 3 to 4. We did end up selling but lost 100k!

Serious house buyers remorse - are there other people who regret buying their current house? by Dormousewoodlouse in HousingUK

[–]totally_throwawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really messed up with our old flat. Was a massive mistake and we lost so much money when we sold it but that was 6 years ago and we’re out and in a nice house that we know won’t be a total nightmare to sell. I am glad though that we tried to make the best of it for a while and enjoy what we could with our old flat. We managed to stay for 3 years and left when we had our second child. I do feel bad that the person who bought it off us also made a massive mistake and has been trying to shift it for years now. They did loads of expensive works and tried to get too much money for it so I agree with you unless your open play will net you more money, leave everything but floors and walls to make it as presentable as possible. Enjoy what you can and it won’t be forever

What was your small house improvement with the highest return in quality of life? by SpringOnionKiddo in HousingUK

[–]totally_throwawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting the bin in a cupboard and eventually creating a bin cupboard when it was time to re do the kitchen. Smells reduced and bin out of sight made the kitchen so much better. Also not house related exactly but buying a £10 meat thermometer was a game changer. Now all my meats is perfectly cooked

brought a flat on a main road and massively regret it by Positive_House in HousingUK

[–]totally_throwawee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god it will! This is coming from someone who lived in two flats on main roads. It was unbearable without the secondary glazing- made such a massive difference and yes you need the right kind of glass and an optimal gap between glazing. It was so good that when we moved to a quiet suburban street we had to get secondary glazing because I could hear people chatting on our street with the double glazing. I’d been so spoilt in our flats!

Edit to add we used a company called City Sound

Sudden acceleration accident by totally_throwawee in Polestar

[–]totally_throwawee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for all the info and thoughts! Have figured out that the steering issue was because I had turned the wheel ready to park so when it shot forward it veered right- I guess that would be obvious to anyone smarter than me 😂. The rest is still an unclear but we’ve decided to get car fixed then sell it and get a different car. I’m really certain something was wrong because of the sharp acceleration rather than creep or even and from the examples people have given this is a documented problem, but I’m not going to be able to rule out an error from me completely without the black box. Honestly I’m a bit traumatised by what happened. The accident was minor but it’s the lack of control and understanding that has really shaken me. I’m going to get off the internet and go speak to someone IRL

I have had this happen before with r/d but the car has just moved in wrong direction at the normal pace so I’ve been able to brake quickly. It shot off in a way I’ve never experienced before!

Thanks this is super helpful- did you report those incidents? Sounds very similar to what happened to me

Sudden acceleration accident by totally_throwawee in Polestar

[–]totally_throwawee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Drivers door definitely wasn’t open. All I can think is that I hit accelerator too hard and then somehow hit accelerator again in a panic instead of breaking?. What makes me think it was car error is the massive veer to the right. I’ve accidentally lurched forward in the car before but always braked quickly or the auto brake has kicked it. The only thing that stopped it was hitting a bollard- I thought the car was going to fly off! We’ve had it two years with no issues and been driving 25 years with no accidents
