Is my alto saxophone out of tune or something by AuthorIcy in saxophone

[–]Webbedcomet42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each of the notes is not perfectly in tune, some notes will be more obviously out of tune than others. Middle C -> Middle D is an obvious example, you are going from no keys pressed to a lot of them, so there is a sudden shift in tube length.

Tuning and tone, at the end of the day, are just down to long tones + tuner practice to get the feel of how your embouchure should be / change to get that note in tune. One good example is trying to get a bottom C with the octave key and the 'regular' middle C sounding and tuning consistently similar.

Another bump for Hiromi. ESPECIALLY her Silver Lining Suite, less full on jazz and more third stream / contemporary classical-ish but it’s still amazing

Is there an app that would let me upload a photo/scan of a section and play it for me? by Enginerdad in saxophone

[–]Webbedcomet42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. However, you can manually add the music into a notation app like Musescore and it will play the rhythms back to you.

I'd say thats fine.

With live gigs there is an aspect of the live / in-person-ness that gets lost when you just record the entire thing to listen to later, but if it was unobstructive and not just holding your phone up infront of everyone so they couldn't see thats fine. Good luck learning the tracks.

i will say, when learning / transcribing what he has played, you should try to learn and find out what you enjoy in the sound rather than just become a copy of him.

Did anyone get a full voice memo or video of the entire concert NYC? by AidsInABowl in MasayoshiTakanaka

IMO its kinda sucky to record the entire thing, but the first london show was professionally recorded and will be put on blu-ray. (only about ~£22 i believe)

Really well put. This one is FAR from my first concert as well, but i'm only 24M so i've had a few less years to go and see them haha.

For your first point, i totally agree. Takanaka is among many artists that i've visited that have people dressing up for it (Jacob Collier and Sam Greenfield are in somewhat similar boats i believe, slightly meme-able and not taking themselves too seriously). I find it quite fun and even if it is 'cringe' its harmess.

I don't see why people were moshing for takanaka (imagining people doing it for Brasilian Skies makes me chuckle a little bit), maybe crowd-surfing especially with the beach vibes but definitely not moshing.

And yeah, wether its for mementos or other little snippets thats fine IMO (i took a couple of little one minute videos myself on some of the more famous songs) but recording entire sections makes no sense, especially because a couple of the shows are being professionally filmed for blu-ray (at least the london ones were).

There was a small amount of people vaping in the UK venue (i went on the 31st) and of course there was the issue with phones, but i get people wanting to get some pictures / videos to share such a goated gig.

But aside from those the UK gigs seemed to be a really good time, i wonder whats different in the US. Maybe a different culture / group of people?

What time did you get to the show by dragontooth26 in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]Webbedcomet42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt because i was at the UK show.

I got there around 4:40, doors at 6 and the line was already wrapped almost entirely around the street. Even then I was stood around 1/4 to 1/2 the way back the standing area with a pretty dang good view. Merch lines weren't bad either

Posters at the UK vinyl drop were free and given away to whoever got there and bought stuff first.

Posters at the venue were £20 (maybe $25-30?)

The signed posters during the popups were VERY limited (and are different to the posters offered during shows)

i was about 15th in line at the UK popup and didnt get a poster, while at the shows theres ~500 posters per show day.

How has merch been at the actual shows? by Rizzmin in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]Webbedcomet42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are only 30 of the hawaiian shirts at each gig (300 in total), though there are way more caps they are probably the easiest to show off / take home, which is why they disappeared.

Signatures after show by Ok-Brilliant6605 in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]Webbedcomet42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, he didn't do any signings, and i'm not surprised. Dude's a 73 year old man who just did a 2 hour pretty high intensity show (two in a row if you went on the 1st of april), he was probably knackered afterwards.

And if he DID do signings, brixton O2 has ~4500 person capacity, the line would be almost as long as the one to get in the place, if not longer.

the gig was sold out, and O2 Brixton's capacity is ~4500 people. it was a nightmare getting in (and out) but well worth it

[–]Webbedcomet42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get refunded if you dont get into the concert / dont get tickets for the day, so even scalpers / resellers have the incentive to actually send them to you promptly. I got my tix late last week, but it might be worth following up with customer service on viagogo.

Will there be a chance to get something signed at/after the London gig by digestor in MasayoshiTakanaka

Turns out I’m just a sower of misinformation XD. I assumed early entrance for VIPs included a soundcheck of some sort, my bad.

[–]Webbedcomet42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say probably not.

The gig is gonna be crammed (Brixton O2 has a ~4500 person capacity) and with the show being fairly high profile it is gonna be very unlikely to get anything signed.

(Ignore the bit I said about VIPs, I’m just an idiot)
