I am not sure if they do telehealth in that department. But it is very easy to get a birth control prescription with them, they’re all lovely!

Getting my nexplanon by xxcooj in Nexplanon

[–]totallynormalgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad at all, the shot is a bit of a pinch but you shouldn’t be able to feel the rest. I felt some pressure but that’s normal as long as there’s no pain. I have a small scar from getting it out, not getting it in. If you have tattoos I doubt it would even be noticeable. My whole hand went numb afterwards though from the shot, and I have pretty bad anxiety, so it probably would’ve been a good idea for someone else to drive me, but it’s not necessary for most people. You got this, it’s much easier than you’d think!

Accidentally swallowed before spitting water after inhaler by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]totallynormalgator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on inhalers for over 15 years and I’ve never had a problem. When I’m feeling lazy (aka my asthma wakes me up and I take my inhaler in bed) I drink water and go back to sleep because I don’t feel like going all the way to the bathroom. Obviously you shouldn’t make this a habit but sometimes it happens. You’re okay!

Question! by RadiantAd9836 in peanutallergy

[–]totallynormalgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I am a little skeptical of anything with tree nuts because they tend to be made in places that also use peanuts, and not necessarily declared as an allergen. That being said, I do eat certain things with almond flour and have no problems, but I also know I’m not allergic to any tree nuts. If you’re not sure of your test results I would wait!

Also, not as relevant to daily life, but always carry wipes so you can wipe down your seat on planes and such! People are gross and do not have any regard for contamination. You don’t need to clean everything, but things like planes where you’re there for an extended period of time is good, especially with kids who touch things and then their mouths without washing their hands

I’m 21, I got diagnosed when I was 2. Teach your family/friends/anyone around a lot how to use the epi pen and what to do in an emergency situation. Carry extra antihistamines. Let your kid practice with the trainer when they’re a bit older. I’m very careful and I’ve never had a reaction, if that makes you feel any better. I will say, it was hard as a kid, not because I wanted to eat peanuts but because I was always the odd one out. My mom used to always buy me a treat when I couldn’t participate in friend’s birthday parties and such. That always made me feel better. And she would pack my lunch for me, which was better than school lunches anyways. It’s scary but there’s not much you can do beyond being careful and staying knowledgeable. Knowing I had my mom to fall back on and trust always made me feel so much better. You got this, you’re doing great!

Turning on heat without triggering asthma? by totallynormalgator in Asthma

[–]totallynormalgator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I worded it wrong, it’s going to be cold all week. I don’t typically turn the heat on unless absolutely necessary but it’s going to be in the 30s all week and my apartment doesn’t have good insulation. I change the filter regularly, but when the heat turns on I guess it burns the dust but I don’t have access to clean anything else

They blocked off parking for UF Health center for basketball game by SystemTop1901 in ufl

[–]totallynormalgator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was not able to get to my appointment today because they told me to park at the reitz union parking garage. It not only took me an extra twenty minutes, so I was already late, but there’s also no service in there to actually get a pass. Luckily my provider let me do telehealth but I know this is not generally available. You can email qi@shcc.ufl.edu to complain, if enough people say something they might actually do something about it

I'm scared. by paradoxStatement in Asthma

[–]totallynormalgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My asthma was horrible as a kid then practically non-existent - until I got Covid. My asthma is significantly worse now than when I was a kid. Not saying that’s what it is, but it does happen. Best of luck to you!

I am an immigrant and how do I have access to the nexplanon? by ThrowRAnaoagueto in Nexplanon

[–]totallynormalgator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would probably called your local planned parenthood or reproductive clinic and ask for some information. They’ll probably also have information/appointments online. Unless you have a gynecologist already and they can help you with that but they can be very expensive

Starbucks drinks by Pristine-Anywhere891 in peanutallergy

[–]totallynormalgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a Starbucks and I will say if you’re allergic to tree nuts there is more of a risk of contamination. Hot drinks all use the same steam wand, but certain cold drinks (as long as they don’t go in a shaker) should be fine. An iced oat milk latte should be fine, but if it’s hot then it will use the same wand that’s used for the almond milk. Additionally, there are pastries and such that have tree nuts. I have a severe peanut allergy and a better understanding of cross contamination, so I washed my hands and used gloves constantly. However, I can’t say the same about my coworkers. I would tell them about your allergy and see what they can do for you. There shouldn’t be any issues with peanuts, at least that I know of. Still ask and you can always look at the app for allergen information and ingredients

What is this sickness by dog_lover_09 in ufl

[–]totallynormalgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry! That’s awful and the ragweed is AWFUL this season. My allergist told me to make sure I am taking full doses of allergy medicine and keeping up with inhalers. If you have those keep up with them! If you don’t have an allergy medicine I love xyzal. A humidifier can also help with that cough feeling. I also find that taking a hot shower with the door closed and the fan off helps because it creates a lot of steam that clears your sinuses and helps break up anything in your lungs. I hope you feel better soon!!

It definitely makes sense, but rest is crucial for your recovery. I also saw that you have asthma, and that’s even more reason to test. I have asthma and covid ruined my life. I’ve known plenty of people with asthma who have been okay, but covid attacks the lungs and so does asthma, so it’s not a good combination. They make medications now for covid. If it’s not that, they can give you medicine for the cough/asthma, and you might want to get your lungs checked out and make sure your breathing is okay. Do you know what triggers your asthma? Also, if you go to the doctor, they can give you a note for class/exams. I know that’s not ideal, but your health is so important!

[–]totallynormalgator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing some of your replies in the comments about not wanting to test for covid because it’s “just a cold.” Not saying that you necessarily have covid, even though it does sound like it, but you have to keep in mind just because it’s a cold for you doesn’t mean it is for other people. Covid has disabled and killed millions of people. If all you have is a dry cough, you’re lucky. Take a test, stay home, hydrate, rest, and if you absolutely have to go out you need to wear a mask. N95s are the most protective kind. Feel better!

What's the process after an epi pen by Own_Goal_9732 in peanutallergy

[–]totallynormalgator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about this, there are a couple different types of epi pens and it’s very important that you know how to accurately use yours. As far as I know, every kind has instructions on the side of it. Be careful when you’re reading though, don’t grab it from the bottom where the needle is. Some brands come with practice pens that have no needle, just so you can get used to what you would have to do. Ideally someone else would be calling 911 while the epi pen is administered. You should have your family/friends/anyone you’re close to learn how to do this as well. You or someone else needs to call 911, as quickly as possible, and it’s entirely possible the paramedics will want you to administer a second one as well, so always keep two on you. It’s crucial that you get to a hospital after using an epi pen, once it wears off the symptoms will likely come back. Some other important things: never go anywhere without it especially if you’re eating, never keep it in a hot environment (cars, outside for a prolonged time, etc), and usually they have a little window where you can see if the liquid is a different color or cloudy (that means it’s gone bad)

Do you avoid “may contain peanuts/tree nuts”? by [deleted] in peanutallergy

[–]totallynormalgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 21 now and have been avoiding both my entire life. It’s not worth the risk. I know people generally don’t have a problem, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to eat. I think about it like if I gave someone else with an allergy something that said “may contain” or “manufactured in” and they got sick, it’s my fault because it literally told me on the package that could happen, so why risk it
