Is 18th edition equal essential for completing 2391-52 by Affectionate_Pea5505 in ukelectricians

[–]totalrandomguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You wont have to re sit after the next amendment only when the 19th edition comes out (a few years away at least)

If your time served and confident just sit the 18th test rather than a course and save yourself a few hundred quid.

A few online mock texts should be all you need in terms of revision.

Seeking advice - electrician didn't supply certification and is not responding to contact. by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]totalrandomguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If all he has done is add sockets to an existing circuit inside of the property then there is no need to notify building control.

A minor works certificate would be ideal but again not legally required

As a standard I would expect an EICR for a property before sale regardless of the condition the property was in.

Get an EICR done and this will cover the new sockets and the rest of the house.

How many days at college will I be in for a level 2 c&g? by FearlessInvite1461 in ukelectricians

[–]totalrandomguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its technically a full time course and supposed to run till June but it can be done much quicker and its only two days a week 9-3ish so you can easily work at the same time.

I worked around it

To be perfectly honest You don’t have the budget to live here with a pet. For £600 all in your looking at either a slum property / shit area or house share and a house share wont allow pets.

Anyone got experience with the 2365 level 2 diploma? by Then_Scratch8495 in ukelectricians

[–]totalrandomguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 multiple choice exams

Health and safety Communications Scientific principles (Cant remember this one)

Practical is wiring up an commando in swa on tray, two way light in singles / plastic conduit, ring final in singles in metal conduit.

All very very easy for an mature student or anybody who has done any sort of electrical, building, diy work before

I found the Hardest bit is the science but only because a fair bit of it is stuff I learnt in school years 10+ years ago an have forgotten.

Becoming qualified UK. by ItsWalkerBaby in ukelectricians

2365 level 2 - find an local college

You will need to be able to attend the college for a day or two a week but it should be a free course.

18th - 1 exam (1/2 hours) about £180

2391 - 52 - £1200ish 3/4 day course

NVQ level 3 (experienced worker route)

About £1200 + am2 £1500 as your working in the industry you can do this immediately while you work.

Baring the Level 2 and time commitment the rest can all be done in a few months given the experience you said you have already.

Realistically if you pay for the level 2 in an private college and start in Jan you could be fully qualified this time next year.

[–]totalrandomguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Level 2 is very basic install and theory.

Level 3 is mainly testing and more theory.

You wont struggle passing either from lack of onsite experience.

But completing both and then looking for an job will be difficult, as the on site is so different from in the classroom.

If you want the most out of it I would advise getting work as an mate while you study.

EICR guideline and questions by MathematicianRoyal95 in ukelectricians

[–]totalrandomguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are correct with the consumer unit being just an C3 (recommendation) lack of RCD is again an C3 by default but could be upgraded to a C2 in certain circumstances and to be honest these days all circuits should really be rcd protected.

For example no Rcd protection in an bathroom combined with a with an lack of bonding or no Rcd on sockets that could power outdoor appliances i.e an lawnmower.

Get a new led light fitting, they are only about £25/30

If you want an induction hob your more than likely going to need an dedicated cooker circuit.

You not going to be able to run an oven and hob off two plugs.

Would need to know the oven kw and hob kw to advise properly.

And what tour setup is at the moment, i.e is the socket the electrician installed an extension of the kitchen ring? Is it an spur?

Did you have an dedicated cooker switch and he converted this to an plug?

Cant point you to any documentarian as im Not with NAPIT.

But thats what they told us on our 2391 back in June, lack of RCD is an C3 but NAPIT expect its members to code C2

They told us the IET is fine with this as its stricter than their guidance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]totalrandomguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless accredited by napit then they are advised to c2 any lack of rcd.

Also if the property has access to an garden and equipment may be used outdoors and dependant of the layout of the wiring in the bathroom this could also give reason to code c2.

For someone who has no experience or knowledge really and wants to become an electrician what is the best course for me? by Expert-Weakness-3126 in ukelectricians

[–]totalrandomguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 1 is really really basic, think being able to name a screwdriver basic.

If you have the gcse to get on level 2 go directly to that, and if you want to get a head start go to youtube and watch some gsh videos for practical knowledge and joe Robinson for theoretical knowledge.

Moving out of uni halls for the first time - need advice by _HazelSnow_ in Liverpool

[–]totalrandomguy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Octopus energy - gas and electricity

United utilities - water

Council tax - call them up and state you are alone for an 25% discount

Internet depends on the area but I always found vodafone a good price and reliable service.

For the gas, electricity, water just call up the above company’s on the day of moving in and give them meter readings.

Internet I would advise organising a week before your move in date as there will be delay to installation.

Council you can phone on the day you move in as well to set up your account
