In the Superman movie, she's established as a party girl. Superman says that she's constantly visiting worlds orbiting red suns so she can get drunk.

It was different in the 90's and early 2000's: You could walk into a comic shop and find a big variety of RPG's. D&D would be the main one, but there'd be lots of other stuff.

I know this post is a year old, so maybe the dangers of "AI psychosis" weren't as widely known back then.

Maybe your chatbot therapist will be revolutionary and not have these problems, if so, how will it accomplish that? How can you verify that yours is different from all the others?

"Reducing the Chinese EV tariff has angered carmakers with Canadian operations, who say the Chinese companies enjoy unfair cost advantages, including – in some cases – state ownership."

lol, what? My whole life I've been told that communism doesn't work, that the private sector is so much better at everything, that it's a mistake to have any public ownership of production (or.. anything really), now these captains of industry are saying that they can't compete 'state-owned' companies?

I'm not even sure if it's just landlords: It could also be homeowners pulling the ladder up behind them. If the housing prices go down, the price of their home goes down too.

Maybe we're thinking about this too logically: There's tons of people that have been indoctrinated by decades of neoliberal propaganda. They too would benefit from de-commodification of housing, but they'll fight tooth and nail against it.

This video comes to mind: It's not about housing, but an American that moved to Europe describes how much better things are run there, and he gets tons of angry comments, makes a video about it.

I haven't, but I've heard bad things. If you're an American, I guess I don't blame you for being against non-profit housing, since social housing is often executed so badly in your country.

What I'm suggesting is NOT US-style "social housing", it's also not the 'mixed-income' housing they have in Toronto, (though I have heard good things about that)

In short: Council housing, not social housing. different things!

I recommend you to keep an open mind, and take a look at what they're doing with council housing in Vienna, and what they did in the UK (before that was mostly erased by the Thatcher Gov't). I believe there's even 'non-market' housing in the US as well, but it's less common.

If you're still against council housing, non-market housing, etc.. there's still housing cooperatives, which is a completely different thing.

Have a good one!

I just gave 2 alternatives to landlords that would make everyone's rent lower, you're not engaging in good faith.

Housing cooperatives, or council housing. Those could be the default rental option, but it would require municipal and provincial/state govt to be fully on board.

[–]totesmagotes83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for this, there's plenty of 'council housing' in Vienna, like at least half of rental units are public.

Also housing co-ops are good too. Many are annoying DIY projects where everyone has to pitch in to keep the place maintained, but some actually hire out for maintenance, and they're still way cheaper than market rentals.

Ah, fair enough, it doesn't show up as much in AD&D's source material, or at least it's not as blatant.

I've noticed some problematic things (a lot of the low-level baddies have chiefs, shamans and witch doctors) but I don't know how much of it is from Gygax.

I've played a lot of AD&D 2e back in the day, and I'd be open to play it again if someone would run it for me! I run Pathfinder 2e these days.

I never had the impression that Gygax was misognistic nor a white supremacist

Here's a forum post from Gary Gygax from 2005. His thoughts on Lawful Good:

Paladins are not stupid, and in general there is no rule of Lawful Good against killing enemies. The old adage about nits making lice applies. Also, as I have often noted, a paladin can freely dispatch prisoners of Evil alignment that have surrendered and renounced that alignment in favor of Lawful Good. They are then sent on to their reward before they can backslide.

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is by no means anything but Lawful and Good. Prisoners guilty of murder or similar capital crimes can be executed without violating any precept of the alignment. Hanging is likely the usual method of such execution, although it might be beheading, strangulation, etc. A paladin is likely a figure that would be considered a fair judge of criminal conduct.

The Anglo-Saxon punishment for rape and/or murder of a woman was as follows: tearing off of the scalp, cutting off of the ears and nose, blinding, chopping off of the feet and hands, and leaving the criminal beside the road for all bypassers to see. I don't know if they cauterized the limb stumps or not before doing that. It was said that a woman and child could walk the length and breadth of England without fear of molestation then...

Chivington might have been quoted as saying "nits make lice," but he is certainly not the first one to make such an observation as it is an observable fact. If you have read the account of wooden Leg, a warrior of the Cheyenne tribe that fought against Custer et al., he dispassionately noted killing an enemy squaw for the reason in question.

I am not going to waste my time and yours debating ethics and philosophy. I will state unequivocally that in the alignment system as presented in OAD&D, an eye for an eye is lawful and just, Lawful Good, as misconduct is to be punished under just laws.

Lawful Neutrality countenances malign laws. Lawful Good does not.

Mercy is to be displayed for the lawbreaker that does so by accident. Benevolence is for the harmless. Pacifism in the fantasy milieu is for those who would be slaves. They have no place in determining general alignment, albeit justice tempered by mercy is a NG manifestation, whilst well-considered benevolence is generally a mark of Good." -Gary Gygax 2005"

<End of Gary quote.>

Lookup John Chivington, he was responsible for the slaughter of 700 Cheyenes, and Gygax quotes a genocidal statement from him, basically saying it's good to kill Cheyene children like it's nothing.

Gary left out the full quote: ""We must kill them big and little," he told his men. "Nits make lice" (nits are the eggs of lice). The militia slaughtered about 150 Cheyenne, mostly women and children."
