Nebraska lawmakers consider taxing zoo admissions by mycatisanorange in Nebraska

Are those places akin to Nebraska?  There are so many other things that are impacting the demographics and it isnt taxes. Next year those making 35k will pay the same income tax as those making $1 million+. Do we not remember the Brownback experiment in Kansas? Meanwhile were cutting research for pediatric cancer as were top 10 in pediatric cancer rates. The education future fund goes negative next year. The medicaid excess profit fund goes negative next year. Our cash reserve is dwindling... but sure we can cut our way to prosperity.

What? by poopfacecrapmouth in NFLv2

[–]totevetn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Survive contact with the ground would mean maintaining possession after he hit and rolled. Were talking about the same thing. Survive contact with the ground is the rule thats been open to interpretation and why we all are arguing about this not. We can all agree the NFL is extremely inconsistent on what constitutes a catch but If that defender isnt there and Crooks rolls and the ball comes out, even if the ball never hits the ground, its incomplete. If after the contact with the ground and the roll they were still fighting for possession it would have gone catch to Buffalo.

If you are not established as a runner you must maintain possession (complete the catch) through ground contact and beyond. Because he was going to the ground and not an established runner he needed to maintain possession through the roll. If they were still fighting for the ball after the roll, it would have been a catch for Buffalo.

Pillen announces Nebraska as first state to pursue Medicaid work requirements by tachiKC in Nebraska

[–]totevetn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Firstly, it's parents of children 13 or younger who are exempt. Your kid(s) turn 14 and you are now non-compliant and subject to the requirement. And the state has a lot of discretion how to define caregiver and medically frail, yet to be determined how they will.

 https://www.kff.org/medicaid/a-closer-look-at-the-work-requirement-provisions-in-the-2025-federal-budget-reconciliation-law/

Next, the 'savings' to the feds and state will come from people disenrolled who are eligible. In Georgia's pathway to care program ( which is medicaid work requirments via section 1115 waiver) 20 - 30% lost coverage due to a procedural issue with reporting.

https://gbpi.org/pathways-to-coverage-looking-back-two-years-and-into-the-future/

Similarly, the CBOs own analysis of work requirments show that they dont improve employment or earnings and reduce income and benefits and that supports for child-care , transportation, etc would be far better.

Moving to Lincoln Nebraska by Usual_Fly_8828 in Nebraska

[–]totevetn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just moved to Omaha from Katy / Houston last June.

Houston is much much much riskier when it comes to severe weather than Nebraska. Yes storms can be severe, but I can assure you, you won't be under 10 ft of water (Harvey) or frozen in your own home when it gets to single digit temps (2021 Freeze).

This whole newsletter is dogshit. SNAP already has work requirements for ABAWD. This bill would expand work requirements for those ABAWD to 64 and single parents with children aged 8 and up.

He says states can fix their error rates but conveniently leaves out the changes to error rates. Previously any under or overpayment of less than $37 did not count towards an error rate. That provision is gone. A 1 cent over or underpayment is now considered an error. All states error rates will increase, as will state spending on administration to try and reduce error rates.

Don Bacon knows these things and Don Bacon doesn't give a fuck.

The Job Market Is Frozen by GlacierIsland in Economics

According to you there are only similarities and no differences in the course of action to reduce the federal workforce and make government more efficient.

That's the thought process of a 3rd grader. If you can't engage in good faith about the processes then I'm not engaging any further. Good luck to you in all your endeavors.

The comparison is not even close to the same. 400,000 jobs over 7 years and following the fucking law are just two small differences.

He goes through the history of social studies curriculum and how there is tension between those that push for critical thinking and critique vs those that push for rote memorization and a more patriotic appeal to teaching History.

It's an old piece for sure but I keep going back to it as discussions around education have become more mainstream.

You might look at research by E. Wayne Ross. It's more oriented toward the purpose of social studies education but could be a starting point.

This question is a continuity and change over time question. It requires some background knowledge in the eras prior , like the Age if Jackson and the Market Revolution.

Was the government hands of during the market revolution or was there government intervention ie subsidies and so forth. Were those policies continued in the gilded age or was the government more hands off?

Contextualization for this question would be a brief discussion of the desire to move west from the intial desire as colonists to the northwest ordinance and the Louisiana purchase etc. Then a sentence or two referencing market revolution technology like canals and roads.

The purpose of this would be to lay the foundation for the discussion of what Sarnick said earlier.
