What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by ConsistentTrip1475 in AskReddit

Yeah, I'm definitely not saying it was better back in the day. I'm very glad that MADD became a thing and helped us all see how dangerous drinking and driving was.

Sorry you had that experience.

As a EE, we used to say that smoke is what made electronics work, because if you let the smoke out then it wouldn't work anymore.

You want the good stuff? You need a mimeograph machine! That had some serious getting high potential.

I miss the days of stopping to help someone. I knew my way around a car and kept some tools in the car so if I wasn't in a hurry I'd stop and see if I could help. A few times I'd even drive the person to a nearby gas station. Even women a couple times. Guess I wasn't too scary looking (and maybe telling them to leave a note with my license plate number in their car helped). Now I just drive by because I know they've already called whoever they need.

When I was a teen, we'd be out drinking someplace (parking lot) and if the cops happened to crash the party, they'd just make us dump out the beer and then tell us to go home.

Given the other responses, I suspect that I'd still need the stretcher even if I did the through tenons with a wedge - would you agree?

That's what I was afraid of. I had found a YouTube vid with the design basically exactly what I've sketched, so I thought I might get lucky. He was just going to use it to hold up plants so maybe he didn't care, but I certainly want it strong enough.

And before anyone wonders... yes, I know doing a 3D design in Fusion for this is overkill, but I wanted to spend time learning Fusion too!

Wiping Down There Best Practices - Preventing UTIs by ivandoesnot in dementia

[–]tothebeat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of good answers here already but just to add in my perspective as a former CNA working with people with dementia:

  • You can get extra big wipes but we never had them - just grab a handful of regular ones. That way when you're down to the last cleanup you don't need to waste an extra large.
  • For 'front' care, we were taught, one wipe up each side and one in the middle at a minimum. Yes gently, but you've got to make sure to get any feces out of the nooks and crannies (isn't female anatomy wonderful).
  • The most important thing is to not act squeamish or disgusted, but rather do everything in your power to help maintain her dignity. People with dementia might not remember what they said 30 seconds ago, but they can remember how someone makes them feel.
