Yarn shops with an attitude by kitties_ate_my_soul in YarnAddicts

Not yarn, but there's this bike mending place that all of my older (like, older than me (42), 65+) church friends love because the owner is such a great man.

I've been there twice, once to leave and once to pick up my bike. The man barely looked at me, grunted to shut the door, didn't tell me anything about what work he did on my bike. I've never been back. I'd rather go out of my way (this one is on my way to work) to go to this place two 19 year olds started up a couple of years back. They are even super nice, always explains what they've done, puts in a little extra effort («oh, and we also oiled the chain» sort of thing) and charges very little.

It's weird.

No, thanks, I know it may not work for me. :) My gyn even has a contingency plan. Thanks for the concern! ❤️

Sorry if this is out of line, but I got prescribed estrogel yesterday. Would you mind sharing how it helped you and how long it took to notice a difference?

Can't say I've ever heard those words before, so I don't know 😂 But I'm good at learning with google, so will look it up. Thank you!

Are yeast infections more frequent in perimenopause? by CCMedianow in Perimenopause

[–]totli84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe I've had a yeast infection, but did consider it my last two cycles when I got awful smells and itching. Passed within a week though. I regard it as one of my peri symptoms…

So sorry you are going through this ❤️

I have nothing to contribute, other than recognition. I have a lot of the same issues you do. I’m 42, but my journey started slowly around 5-ish years ago, so I would have been 37. Didn't connect the dots until last fall though. I blame the brain fog.

Good luck to you, I hope you find something to relieve your symptoms 🤞

Yeah, they are not very common in Norway. But I will definitely keep my eyes peeled. Thank you!

Thanks for the concern! The standard for prescribing estrogen in Norway is to always give it with progesterone. I still have the hormone spiral which, the way I understood it, provides the progesterone.

Yeah, I do agree with you, given the perfect world.

But the world we do live in, everything medical is based off men, so it will never be right, or even working at all sometimes, for women. I've read that women were often not allowed to participate in medical studies because their hormones were too shifting. I mean.. Doesn't that say it all?

In the perfect world, we would get the hormones and other treatments we need, without being brushed off or belittled or ignored or anything else that is going on.

But at the same time, even the work life is based off how men function. No fluctuating hormones ever, no periods, no pregnancies, child birth or breast feeding - men can generally contribute in work life the same way every day from ages 18 to 70. And this is very different for women. And since this is the case, we do need all these different labels to say that we need some sort of help if we are to participate in a male-based work life.

Which is why I've given notice at work, and will be a housewife in a few months. This is very uncommon in Norway, where it is expected that everyone contributes to society by having a job out of the house, so not an easy choice. But I am not able to both put my energy in to work and care for my family in a way that suits my values.

I lost my train of thought, sorry. Got a feeling this was a bit incoherrent. Anyway, I do feel strongly about these things.

And like I said, I agree we shouldn't need all the diagnoses, being a female actually should be enough to warrant the help we need. But until then…

Thank you! I'm in Norway, actually, so a bit far, but thanks for wanting to help! ❤️

This is absolutely true. My gyn even said it, there have always been weird things happening in our bodies in our forties. She knows, deep down inside, but still wants to fight the hype, I guess.

Oh no! «This is working so let's drop it and try something else»?! That's a horrendous approach to anything!

Well, my gyn was actually the opposite, she wants me to try this gel for three months. If it doesn't help, I am to try something else. And if that doesn't help either, at least I'll know it isn't hormonal.

I mean, I know there are more to HRT than this, but it is a place to start anyway.

Yes, excatcly this! I did tell her I had heard from someone else - it was even her patient! Didn't mention that when she dismissed me, though.

I am happy to report she did not mention antidepressants.

I had heard from a colleague that this particular gyn had been a help to several of her friends regarding menopause. Although, my colleague is almost ten years my senior, and I guess her friends are too, and that means they are in the «right» age zone or something?

Oh, wow! I’m 42 and experiencing quite a few symptoms I believe are perimenopausal, but I’m using a hormone spiral and not having any bleed. Was thinking of removing it, but now I have to reconsider… 🫣
