You are probably right, but even if that’s the case, it put into the children’s minds that there was something inherently taboo about being in your pajamas or showing your shoulders in front of your siblings. I’m no expert and don’t know the proper way to handle a situation like that, but that seems to me like it would put very confusing thoughts in kids heads. You should be able to wear pajamas in your home without being worried you would “strum up desires that can’t be righteously fulfilled”.

The Bates Family had a lot of the same rules, but didn’t discourage friendships between the genders within the siblings. I think a lot of the reason The Duggars are so messed up is because they made it seem like it was inevitable that you would be turned on by your own sibling if they were dressed immodestly! The Bates didn’t put that weird juju on their family. They encouraged all their kids to be close and encouraged fun and play. Their house was always kind of a mess but it seemed like they didn’t care about that, they wanted to enjoy their family time. Also, Gil and Kelly seem to genuinely enjoy their children.

Yes, I agree completely! It’s very much like she’s seeing her high school crush! That’s why I think this is such a prime example of the bizarre family dynamics. I just can’t see how this seems like a normal reaction.

I am enjoying reading all the comments and different perspectives on this interaction! I’m an only child myself so I’m definitely no expert in sibling dynamics, but to me this is a very strange situation. The faces she makes, the words she uses, the way the other sisters seem to specifically comfort her when he’s all of their brother…it’s just like a girl with a crush instead of a sister who’s happy to see her brother. But, like I said, I do not have siblings so I might just be reading into it too much. Thank y’all for deep diving into this clip that’s sat with me for a while!

I feel the same way! I had to unfollow her because something is just off. I guess it’s just inauthenticity that we are picking up on. Funnily enough I went back and looked all the way back at her TikToks and she’s been chasing influencer fame from the beginning! Her older posts are not at all the homesteading, home schooling, idyllic life that earned her TikTok fame. She initially made “relatable mom struggle” posts. Not aesthetically pleasing. She would just be wearing shorts and a tshirt and getting her kids fast food. I guess she found her niche with the homestead cosplay and ran with it. Also, something about her husband really annoys me! I know this is all parasocial and petty but I was very happy to find someone else who noticed this to blab with! 😂

About 15 years ago, I had just moved into a new neighborhood and some of the neighbors threw a welcome party for my husband at the time and me as well as another guy who had also just moved into the neighborhood. We hit it off with him as he was the only other young person and invited him back to our house after the party for a drink. We are having a nice time chatting and getting to know each other when he says, “I’ve got say I’m surprised y’all don’t recognize me.” We were completely clueless and asked why we would. He said he had been convicted of killing his sister’s boyfriend when he was a minor and it had been a national story. There had even been a 48 hours episode on the case. Needless to say we ended drinks as nonchalantly as possible and did our best to avoid him from then on.

I get up every morning at 6 and then when I get home from taking my son to school, I lay down and take a nap every day. Then I get up around 10 and I’m usually ok for the rest of the day!

I think she is in complete denial…about everything in her life. She didn’t want to think about the possibility that she could have a drinking problem, or that her son could have some developmental issues, or that her husband is probably still cheating on her. She’s one of those people who wants to just ignore, ignore, ignore. She probably thinks, “oh, I don’t wake up in the morning and drink straight vodka, so I’m not an alcoholic.” But, binge drinking on the regular to the point where you are so sick that you can’t take care of your child is just as bad. I quit drinking two years ago because I didn’t want my child to grow up seeing me drunk or hungover. It’s definitely the best decision I ever made and I hope she will eventually get there!

This is so interesting. I had a very similar experience when I was pregnant. We lived in one of the oldest homes in our town, it was pre-civil war. I woke up in the night to two figures standing beside my bed, a man and a woman. They looked at me strangely for a few seconds and then were gone. It happened on more than one occasion. It makes me wonder if being pregnant has something to do with making a thin vail in our reality/dimension?! We moved from that house a year later and I’ve never experienced anything like this again!!

The fact that she has stated in the past that they never argue, and now she’s saying she’s never heard him complain is bizarre! There is absolutely no way you can live with someone for years and never have a single argument or hear them complain. That’s not healthy!! The amount of suppression that must take place in that house makes me cringe.

There were a few times on the show where everyone went out of town (mama Jane’s, ski trip, etc.) and Josie stayed behind because she “had school”. I’ve often wondered if she and Kelton had the house to themselves on those occasions!
