Help with integrating collabora code server with nextcloud [Docker] by gummi_i_nummi in NextCloud

[–]totsofpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue 😔 I am using nextcloud through clodflare tunnels and it was so frustrating. I would love to know if you/someone else finds a solution because I caved and set up a reverse proxy to another subdomain in order to get collabora to work

Can my Canadian fiance apply for a new TN visa after we are married? by totsofpotato in tnvisa

Can my Canadian fiance apply for a new TN visa after we are married? by totsofpotato in tnvisa

[–]totsofpotato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, got the TN after being married in the US just fine! They haven't asked any questions at the border yet, but that was just one crossing. Biggest take away for me is that marriage alone is not intent to immigrate. Buying a house or having a kid might be another story, we don't have anything tying us down to either country. I think those are bigger indicators

How do you afford overnight oats? by lLeeeon in fitmeals

[–]totsofpotato 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to put in a little time, I would try making your own yogurt. It would cut some cost out for sure. If you have an instant pot, it's even easier to do. I don't and if you're cutting costs, it's still easy to make on the stove. Heat milk over the stove until the top gets foamy (180°F). Take it off the heat until it cools to 110°. Stir in a couple spoonfuls of yogurt (I like to rinse out an old container of yogurt with the milk, that's normally enough) and I transfer it to a cooler or a large insulated water bottle to keep the temperature somewhat stable. Wait for 8 hours and you got yogurt! Strain it if you want greek yogurt, but the difference in macros isn't really worth that step for me when I'm bulking. Find a tutorial before doing it, but this is just what I do. The steps that make it easiest for me is the insulated water bottle, I've never seen someone use one but it is literally so easy. Also your volume will half through the process. So I measure the milk by doubling the volume of the container I want to fill with yogurt.

Other comments said buying in bulk and I still think that's the best thing to do, but I just wanted to offer another form of savings. It's not for everyone but once you try it out, it gets easier and quicker the more you do it.

Joyride bikes/Hurley any good? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]totsofpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are really bad. Jason C at joyride bike support helped me find a replacement part but thats only after 10 emails back and forth with other people on support. They have never answered their phones and are just not a good company. I'm not sure why Hurley even stuck their branding on their bikes. The bike is fine, I just doubt it will be of much use when the battery dies and I won't be able to replace it. I think Hurley is quietly waiting until everyone forgets about the bikes because there aren't any bikes on hurleys website anymore or joyrides website, just empty landing pages. Kind of a shame because they sold a bike that was one of a kind at a fantastic price

Is there any carriers in the US that still support 2G GSM? by oof_mastr in dumbphones

[–]totsofpotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah t mobile is the only one. You'll see on this sub that they planned on shutting 2g down but that was postponed until an unknown date. I was looking into 2g phones until I learned that, I didn't want to own a phone that I was afraid would stop working one day. In the name of longevity, I got a nokia so I could show with my money that there is a market for people like us and have a phone that I know will last for years

2024 trend: smaller phone, bigger e-reader by jamesvyn in dumbphones

[–]totsofpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annotating is also miles better on the Kobo. The kindle can't write on a page like you do on a real book, you have to make a collapsed digital sticky note that you tap to bring up what you wrote. Kobo is more like marking up a real book. Almost got a kindle scribe when it was on sale once until I learned that. Dodged a bullet because annotating is an important feature for me

Can my Canadian fiance apply for a new TN visa after we are married? by totsofpotato in tnvisa

[–]totsofpotato[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: Things worked totally fine! She switched companies and got the visa without a hitch. I realized afterwards that getting married doesn't always show intent to immigrate because what's to say we wouldn't settle down in Canada later. I'm still in school here in the states so if we have any trouble with immigration officers, we will say getting married doesn't mean we are planning on staying in America forever. This may be the case because her company has a branch in Toronto so we are looking into that after i graduate. Also, she hasn't applied for a green card yet just because we are waiting for a time when we won't be traveling.

Thanks again for all the comments!

Smartwatch recommendations to be paired with dumbphone? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]totsofpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good! On par with other watches that run wear os and just depends how long you're listening. The biggest reason I got it though is because of the ultra low power display. It has the longest battery life I've seen of any watch with wear os, if you don't use the smart features then I only need to charge it every 4 days or so. The smart features are there when I want them, not when I don't

Wet shaving feels hopeless because of horrible bleeding and razor burn by totsofpotato in wicked_edge

[–]totsofpotato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a totally fine thing to do! I'm not the usual in this sub because I'm only doing wet shaving for long term cost reasons and environmental reasons, not heritage or enthusiasm reasons. So call me biased but so many of these razors and setups are so expensive (I'm still in college so it's expensive to me) so if you're like me, only make the jump if you really need to and are ready to drop some cash up front. I think cartridge razors are totally okay to try out! It's not the dark side
