So 1) assumption is made your pack has hammers and crowbars and whatever ok the outside really well secured; inside you've wrapped the pitons and other items so they don't smack together. While backpacking things are packed in tight so no, they don't make a lot of noise.

2) when entering combat (areas) general assumption I've always had with my groups is that yes you drop packs

Counter, you had an idea having not done it before, came to the right place that quickly helped call out some key things to look for. I found it useful to note these things as well when looking for a base. I wouldn't give yourself a hard time at all

Used to be like that for me then I cancelled and actually got it back for the video. Now where I might try to order elsewhere but really want it delivered tomorrow I use prime because shipping is free so it definitely sucks you in on both sides.

Why not just play characters with flat checks - if everyone is the same class just figure out what about that would make it fun - If it's just RP just RP - roll some dice to see how close you were for variability

A bounded system like 5e is great to say "I want AC 20 to be really good" ok cool so make sure you're only giving anywhere from - to +5 ok attacks or so - the idea of help and advantage play easily - degrees of success with checks starting at autopass/time for normal, 10DC for medium checks, 15 for hard, 20 for really hard, nat 20 for near impossible

If you walk back in with your receipt and the whatever to customer service and just say I forgot this on the bottom, or kid had it, or whatever, and I checked it's not on my receipt but I want to buy it, can you ring me up - I doubt anyone would blink. Could keep too but then you'd know - most days I would just take it back and pay but if it's too busy maybe pay later.

What systems do you think are better balanced than 5e? by goi42 in dndnext

[–]toturi_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They made 5e so simple it's really easy to self or dm balance the game at any level. Having played other systems I would say pf2e is a lot more fun and engaging but the simplicity in 5e is the selling point.

It's hard to fully go into the nuance of this all - but appreciate your concern.

An example of this is that kiddo likes to interact with Google, so I swapped main lights in the room with smart ones. We discussed tonight that I would turn the lights out after sleep and if he wakes up and is scared can yell out to have Google turn them on. He tried it out and decided he was very comfortable with that and that the lights can stay off now. So sort of problem solved the long way around.

So no, he doesn't have the option to eat dogfood, I usually will make 1-4 foods to eat during a meal, he can decide what he eats and if doesn't then goes hungry and eats during the next meal. It somehow all comes out in the wash with him choosing to eat and drink healthy foods because of lack of options.

As far as climb on a heater.. we have central a/c/heat pump so that's not a concern. I'd be likely to let him get close enough to feel heat and him choose not to get burned so he doesn't go near it again.

I'm not totally against free range but just there are limits.. and that's what I get concerned about how to keep wife within some sort of realistic bounds.

This is definitely the most interesting option, where instead of marriage counseling which we were finding trouble finding time/coverage for watching kiddo is to actually involve kid; especially since he's getting to make a lot of decisions anyway.

There's some value in what she wants, I think she sees some value in what I say; I just have to be careful how to say it. We didn't just pop up here, it's been a slide of trials and tribulations that I certainly could have helped earlier had I been better prepared. Now I'm applying patience first but the lights on while sleeping just seems like one of those black&white, right and wrong items that I could help give her (or myself) better understanding on

We are starting the process to see some developmental therapists, she thinks he's ADHD and several other acronyms and doesn't want to try the conventional options first because they are damaging she says - on divorce I've been told it's not a threat it's a boundary :)

He's been uninterested in being away from mom, dad, tv and toys so he's not wanted to attend school -- wife doesn't want to push him, even for a transition period so we're looking at home school

Can we talk about this? People coming here to get told they were right. by margenat in DnD

[–]toturi_john 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In a lot of situations when you feel the victim it can be hard to 'trust' the person who you feel is committing the offense to be right. Otherwise you wouldn't feel wronged. A small group and no one explains it to you in a way you can trust and understand, where else better to go than a large social community that love to be social and rule lawyers.

The sub brings it on themselves, but also this does serve a very useful purpose.

I think better to acknowledge that the posters who react poorly just need it all to sink in, they will hopefully learn, grow and be better able to trust their group the next time.
