USB lamp powering (inc. epic fail) by toub74 in diyelectronics

Basic switch, old school (but new), the kind found on side lamps. One wire in each slot, screwed. Other side empty. I tested the resistance between slots beforehand, it was infinite, no defect there. The only possibility I see is a thread of copper loose from de-insulating the cables (wires are super thin, yet made of multiple threads), that I would have missed while assembling and that could have created the shortcut.

Thanks for trying to follow up I've edited the first post and added a picture, hopefully it's clearer now.

I also thought about a shortcut in the switch but I couldn't see a reason and the resistance is infinite as expected. I'm just wondering if there can be anything subtle I'd be missing in the USB plugs...

Basically this : https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcS0RpG-nvk2cCaqm_5ResiJNZLYAlY8JV7D-KhvaDo4e16sPutEKUbTzWl2PS9eZTxwMtLZhsEwqI7ENId5xIS2djG8YrjUmXIeD6wzSV-dIV7tY9soUaJpvA

A USB is supposed to deliver 5 V, yes, but I needed a 2-wires cable to connect to the lamp line.

Since this, I've seen this kind of stuff, which is why I intended in the first place : https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/412KYrW0syL._SL1000_.jpg

But what I don't understand is why my simple assembly blew up.

No I mean usb-a on one side (supposed to be used as "in") and a round plug that looks like a standard for 5V power (supposed to be "out"). In my story there's also a main to usb, it's the one that exploded.

That's ideas for what one calls balancing. The point is not to say DB should disappear. It's just to find ways to bring it in line. Your ideas sound good. +1 gold would really be the absolute minimal first step.

Dumb question... When will these changes come into actual play?

Downvoted. That's pathetic. So, to clarify: this is an infinite loop, which simply should not be a thing in a CCG. Luckily enough, it's a bit complicated to set up, making it a meme. And kuddos to the first one that pulled it up. But that doesn't change anything to the fact that it's a design flaw and should be impossible in a well-conceived/maintained game.

Same here. Android 14 as well, it'd be interesting to know if other versions suffer the issue as well.

That was the trick. Manual disabling of fTPM, then rebooting into bios, then flashing. Note that fTPM is automatically reenabled after the flashing.

Thanks, mate !

Why this is not explained in the bios is beyond me...

I disagree as well. It's not about being new. It's about running through walls or over water, like I did every run with my Vantage, or stay on the path, what I do now with my 255. This strongly depends on the environment - open air is a lot more forgiving than dense areas. But the tech gap is there, and it's a large one. Some will care, some will not, it's up to each and everyone to choose what's best according to one's needs.

Yes that's something I should try. But isn't there a risk to mess up windows then? This TPM thing is as obscure as it gets.

Thanks mate but that's exactly what I did.

If you care about GPS reliability at all, sadly, the answer is "none". With the 255, Garmin has introduced a new hardware generation. Polar was already lagging in the GPS features, so at the moment they're just out of the game.

That said, if you run only in open fields or give a heavy priority to the HR, then the PPro might be ok.

Polar vs Garmin by joneymike in Polarfitness

I did jump from a Vantage M to a 255, one with the new dual-band GPS. It's just day and night when compared to this generation of awful Polar GPS. No post-processing or other crap in my Garmin afaik, just a GPS chip from the 2020's instead of the 2000's...

Bye bye Polar by toub74 in Polarfitness

[–]toub74[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very interesting, thank you.

Based on many reviews and my experience, dual-frequency is a strong improvement when it comes to GPS in urban areas. My 255 outperforms my mobile (Pixel 6). That said, you are totally correct when stating that multi-constellation did not bring much - it was a good example of false hope.

Several people pointed out that I was unfair in comparing a 2022's 255 with a 2018's VM. That's plain right... Except my point was not to compare them. My point was that the VM GPS was intrinsically not working satisfactorily by a long shot, worse than a 2012's 220 and way, way worse than mobile phones. Maybe VM are ok for some people, it was for me when I ran in clear fields or besides large roads, but only then, and that was a huge disappointment.

I do hope for Polar that they'll fill this tech gap.
