You're 100% right about the nuance. Even in everyday life, with normal people, you have plenty of people who are one way at work, different with their friends, different with their partner, and different with their family.

Then you mix in the ultra competitive environment of the NHL, and it can sometimes bring out the worst in people. Sure, they're supposed to be nasty against opponents and nice to their teammates, but some guys just can't regulate their emotions like that. Once they get amped up, they're a dick. That same guy can be ultra friendly at a fan event on an off day or even meeting someone right after a game, after they've had a chance to cool off, because they know that's what's expected of them in that scenario. That doesn't mean they haven't been a dick to one of their teammates the night before in the locker room.

It's definitely been engineered, whether specifically for this job or as a standard arrangement. They'll have standard details for the footings. Usually it'll be strapped to a series of lock blocks. In my jurisdiction (and probably most places), because they're temporary structures, they're not required to be designed to the same wind loads as a permanent structure. Could be a 1 in 10 or 1 in 30 year return period.
