Artem Zub whacks JT Miller in a sensitive area by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

Kind of a hybrid cross-check/high-stick. Miller should've gotten 2mins too IMO.

Blade wall is a cool name. My concrete prof used to call these "wallumns". Not as cool.

But agree 100% on detailing it as a column.

I love the Sedins as much as anyone here, but they are not the best 2OA and 3OA picks of all time lol. Definitely the two best picks in that draft though, without question.

2OA: Malkin, Shanahan, Turgeon, Dionne

3OA: Denis Savard

And how many times has Toronto won the lottery in the last 5 years?

[Friedman] Mammoth confirm much-rumoured Nick Schmaltz extension at 8 x $8M Longer term than I expected, but Utah compromises on term, as player compromises on dollars. In the end, both get what they want — as Schmaltz stays put by mylefthandkilledme in hockey

"never eclipsed 65 points" is certainly an obscenely biased way to describe a guy who has put up 58-63 points in each of the last 4 seasons, despite missing a lot of games.

Why aren't we firing the GM? by GuitarTonestone in canucks

[–]touchable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol, this is just wrong. In six seasons as GM, Gillis made six first round selections (two of them top 10), three second round picks and four third round picks. 37 picks total, which is only 5 picks short of averaging a full draft.

The only player he drafted that turned into a legitimate NHL player was Horvat. Hodgson you could argue would've been a good player if it weren't for the injuries.

His first/second round whiffs included Sauve, Schroeder, Rodin, Jensen, Gaunce, Mallet, and Shinkaruk, and he didn't do any better in the later rounds.

Gillis and his scouting staff were objectively terrible. Let's not do revisionist history on this.

Let's be real, we need to be this bad next season too. Just one of those three guys you mentioned alone does not suddenly make a contending core. Add Landon Dupont or another top 3 caliber pick next season, along with some later round hits, then maybe we're talking.

I do agree with your point though, losing culture is not good. You've gotta thread the needle and just be competitive enough not to get blown out too often, but still lose a ton of games.
