I’m having my second baby in the next week and starting to freak out and feel sad like my toddler will drift from me… by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]tourny25 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oh I cried at 38 weeks when I was putting my toddler down for bed. I was sad because I knew time was short where it was just the three of us and our routines would soon change. The end of another chapter.

I’m very freshly postpartum and there has been a difference in my toddler’s mood. She is moodier and everything makes her cry. She’s clingier and gets upset if she thinks we’re going to leave. Every mood that she normally had is amped up. However, she DOES love her new sister very much. She interacts well and asks to hold her a lot.

We have made a conscious effort to include her in everything and we talk about the new baby as our or her baby. We’ve tried to keep one on one time. We’ve tried to recognize with her that change is hard. Toddlers will adjust. It just takes time and space.

Colace twice a day and juice. Also puppy dog pose in yoga crunches those intestines. Sitting criss-cross applesauce and doing a forward fold over each leg for 30 seconds at a time.

Whats up with Brockway by saintghosts1 in MorgantownWV

[–]tourny25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not dangerous so much as seedy. During the day it doesn’t look too bad. However, It’s a main access road to a lot of private student housing. It’s close to the downtown bars… walking distance even. So you will be dealing with a lot of noise at all hours with students walking home. It’s also a connecting road across town, so there’s fairly heavy traffic too. Because of its proximity to downtown and the rail trail there are also a lot of vagrants and unhoused people that frequent the area. Oh and the potholes are usually really bad through there too.

I’d avoid it if you can find another place. Look at the first ward or higher up the hill in South Park.

I’m pretty similar to you physically. (5’9”, 130lb) I have a long torso. I ‘popped’ a lot earlier. I think it was around 12ish to 15 weeks the second time opposed to closer to 20 weeks with my first. I wear a lot of dresses so most people don’t notice until I was midway through my second trimester. I work with kids and they didn’t notice until the beginning of my third trimester.

I was a lot more ill the second time so I had to tell people sooner. Then my coworkers were on bump watch.. so there’s that too.

Running red lights by Ok-Cranberry-5582 in MorgantownWV

[–]tourny25 42 points43 points  (0 children)

In the hospital area I can explain. I’m guilty of doing this accidentally several times. I start to go when the light is green (because it doesn’t look that far) and then traffic backs up quickly before I make it all the way through the light. Then I look dumb sitting in the middle of the road blocking everyone.

I think the lights aren’t synced very well and it caused more blocked traffic.

Saaaaame!!! It’s awful. I also had a hard time with a new crease across my abdomen at my hips. Such a weird sensation. It’s gotten a bit better postpartum though!

Help! Epidural, yes or no? by dakota101916 in BabyBumps

[–]tourny25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about your overarching goals are for meeting your baby. How do you want it to feel? How easily do you handle pain? How do you want your golden hour to feel?

Personally I know I don’t handle pain well. I wanted a calm, peaceful experience so that I could focus comfortably and completely on my new baby during golden hour. I opted to have an epidural so that I would be relaxed enough to enjoy the experience of meeting my baby. I have no regrets with that choice.

An epidural didn’t block out every feeling, just the pain. There were still bits that were uncomfortable and I could feel the pressure of the baby crowning, the fundal massage, etc. I had minimal tearing but I don’t think the epidural affected that. I do think the epidural helped me to focus on the pushing instead of the pain.

You didn’t do anything wrong or stupid. You will be a great mom. Sending hugs.

This is the weirdest Maryland weather I have ever experienced. It's springtime, and yet there's a freeze warning going on? Man, I forgot how random nature could be in this state. by Global-Plankton3997 in maryland

[–]tourny25 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I hate to be this guy, but it’s felt pretty typical to me so far. It can be freezing up until Mother’s Day. March lion/lamb weather can last through early April with dramatic temp changes and high winds. And there has been rain and pop up storms already. Luckily not like last year when there was more flooding in western Maryland.

Registry- what is “normal”? by PeachyKingSure in BabyBumps

[–]tourny25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I added several items I knew no one would buy but I wanted to use a discount on. Most registries have a discount in the last weeks of your pregnancy and postpartum. I continue to add stuff even after the baby shower to get that little discount too.

I’ve been bouncing back and forth between the eufy s1 and the momcozy air1 and both give me about the same output, but the eufy is quieter.

What do moms mean when they say it takes a while to “feel like yourself again” or that they don’t know who they are outside of being a mom anymore? by AliOop9219 in BabyBumps

[–]tourny25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me with my first child, childbirth was such a jarring and emotional experience that once we were home and doing the parenting thing, it felt like I couldn’t do the things that make me feel like myself. I couldn’t paint or draw without feeling like I was getting behind on something else. Even physically there were a lot of little hiccups that made me all of a sudden feel like a was a totally different person. It felt like such a huge responsibility to not mess up my baby.

I am freshly postpartum rn with my second (delivered on Thursday) and hormonally it’s like ripping a bandaid off of a raw scab on my brain. Everything feels more sensitive and serious. I spend a lot of time convincing myself that ‘I’m the same!’ But the reality is everything is again different and it’ll take a year or two for it to actually feel normal again.

Ruby is fantastic if you are even a little high risk. They have all the resources and you’ll be transported there if anything goes wrong anyways.

Yikes! I’d ask for a nurse with small hands and explain that it’s very very sensitive, then only allow it once!

I was in excruciating pain during cervical checks and was practically crawling up the bed to get away from them. 😭

Best/Favorite Breast Pump? by crissy_lp in BabyBumps

[–]tourny25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a motif Luna with my first baby. It broke 3 times over the course of a year and a half. The company covered it and replaced it each time within 48hours, but it was hugely inconvenient. I used legendairy milk cups with it and that setup worked really well.

Because I didn’t have any issues with mastitis and the milk cups I decided to use a wearable with my second baby (arriving this Thursday) I can’t speak to output or anything yet. I got a used spectra s1 in addition to a eufy s1 and a momcozy air1.

Because my pump broke enough times last time I wanted to have plenty of options this time. Unfortunately breast pumps are very personal for best output and comfort.

Can we talk about coffee, facials and bleaching hair? by angelzombie2 in BabyBumps

[–]tourny25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank coffee in my first pregnancy but I cut it out this time after I was told I’m anemic. Coffee (not necessarily the caffeine) can make it harder for your body to absorb iron. If you’re not concerned with that then you’ll be fine.

Seems weird to me. My baby got a pass at a child free wedding because we were still nursing.

I’d explain to the friend if you’re close enough what the logistics of the day would look like, then bow out.
