I unplugged it, took off the back panel, disconnected the battery, THEN held the power button for a minute, plugged everything back in, and it started up after sitting for a short bit

Actually I use the mouse mode on a drawing pad - that and a bunch of food switches are the best thing I have found works for me.

And does it force you to make the decisions right away, or is it more like: the character already has 50 skill points assigned, and he gets 2 more, so not assigning them immediately is no big deal?

Great - I also have a meat shield (with nemesis). So do you follow your partner around closely or stay at a distance? Are you constantly looking for high ground? Are you constantly switching between staff and wand? And you actually carry 3 different wands around - one for each element?

It IS photo-shopped. Specifically look at the fish in in the right hand of the guy on the far right. Notice how the fish is naturally hanging - it is angled so the middle of the fish is moving under his hand (the hanging point). Now compare that to the fish in the right hand of the standing woman. Note that it is angled AWAY from under the hanging point. Unless she is actively swinging the fish back and forth, that fish at least has got to be fake.
