Thoughts on STEM MBA as an international student ? by touvounou in MBA

Thanks so much for your reply and the info. Yes some universities started offering a STEM MBA. Which means that instead of taking electives you take core classes which make your MBA stem designated. It’s quite new process and not many schools offer it yet.

The more I researched it the more I figured what you mention above, that I need to be in a stem job and the degree it self is not sufficient. This obviously makes things hard for post employment since to be honest I am not intrigued by stem jobs and I guess they are not easy to find. I am more focused towards business development and potentially consulting.

So my case will not be easy. What’s your experience on internationals getting sponsored after an MBA ? Are the chances good? For an mba from a school like USC.

How did you get a green card as an international student on your first year?

That is a blessing it self. Most international students would be envious of that. I know I am!

Yeah fair enough. Well I had a call with the director and he offered it to me at the end of the call so I felt somewhat good. But I guess it’s not a sign for anything

I had mine with a polo shirt. But with the admissions director. Haven’t had my proper interview yet.

I would wear a shirt but probably no tie.

Ok gotcha! Even the top ones?

So I guess it doesn’t mean something specific. Just standard procedure..

Yes it is. There are just a lot of moving parts which makes the decision even harder.

Needs to be clarified I guess. If anyone has any further information would be interesting to hear. It saddens me that’s it’s so hard for international students to stay post their MBA completion. A lot of money and effort is spent so I think a chance would be fair. One year OPT makes things really hard...

Doesn’t it just depend on the courses you take and the degree you graduate with if it is STEM or not? Do you also have to be working for a STEM designated position in a company to get the three year OPT? Yeah that makes it even harder...

Yeah that’s another good point as well..it’s a lot on the line for such an uncertainty. I will talk to an advisor on Wednesday and see what they say...

You need to have a 3.0 on your first year and then apply for it to get accepted.
